Yeah...
Onion Wallet is a scam.
It was my first time using bitcoins and
I used it to mix my btc.
I was duped of 150 USD.
It still shows the btc in my wallet but I am not able to send them to any other address.

Please use wallets with forum discussions and reviews.

It was some scam from 2013 apparently, look at the the OP post date.

Blockchain.info has been delisted on https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet since early Dec.

Part of the problems have been fixed, according to the "edits" in the PR.

Blockchain.info secure now I see on bitcoin.org but still no blockchain.info there, I doubt their security is secure now.

It is always a bad idea to use a wallet that doesn't give you access to the private key.
Even if you could find some good feedback on it, it could still become a scam at any moment, like inputs.io.

I feel sorry for you OP, but why would you use an online wallet and sent so much at the first go even though you couldn't find anything about it? Sounds like a very stupid move to me. Either stick with the known trusted ones or use electrum, armory, bitcoin-qt, etc.

The whois protection doesn't do anything if a subpoena is sent out by law enforcement. That's going to be your method of tracking him.

To all those who've been ripped off. I'm at sort of a stand still so I'll just spread the word and hope someone with better resources than myself can investigate and bring him to justice. I've found a connection between onionwallet and a man named David Galvan. He actually has a website run on the clearnet although it's sadly protected by a whois protection company so no address/phone. The site he runs is coins4life.com. What can they do? They're just a group of dudes who like bitcoin. They can do about as much about fraud in bitcoin as you and I can, except we don't need to charge for it!

Is the bitcoin foundation doing anything or have any long term plans for protecting users of btc from scammers, I really think headway in that direction would make cryptos alot more appealing to alot of investors

I don't have Bitcoin-QT but can't you use it to export the private/public keys? If so, you should be able to edit the key file in some way to figure out which ones you want to pull.

BTW. Is there a way to extract a key pair from the wallet, print it and then delete it from the wallet manually?

@OP: Local wallets aren't that hard to handle and use. Actually I find them a lot more convenient than online wallets hence I never even used online wallets.

I think there was a thread about javascript sending the private key to the owner, after that the line of code got removed? Could not find it now.

Is Bitaddress truly a scam as well?

Why are people using so many new online wallet services? It's quite obvious that they are unsafe.

      You need to report this to the Bitcoin.org media people, send an email to each media person, include your information, include your block address link, also report this to Blockchain as well, You will get no response from Bitcoin Forum and don't trust any of the assholes here, they are all scammers, the same thing happened to me at bitcoinwallet.in

Report this to everyone you can, my BTC was sent to the same address and it is there, BlockChain is investigating it, and YOU need to report the right away to every media person on the list at bitcoin.org, this includes the CEO of Bitpay, a reporter for The Gaurdian, Washington post, Financial market reportes, etc...

TRUST no one on Bitcoin Forum, it is safe to assume that anything they tell you is a lie. When you mention a scam in a scam thread the cockroaches come out of the walls.

Use only wallet sites you trust. don't send people your money for free.

I made a prank bet here to prove once and for all that "trustworthiness" doesn't count (and got exactly what I deserved: see my title). The community is a bit more suspicious of anonymous and even public services these days, but they still fawn over flashy money tossers too easily (the "boy's club" of bitcoin) and think that anyone who mimics their libertarian philosophies must be a saint.  

With the rise of bitcoin prices, the biggest scams have yet to even happen I'm sure.

That's true in theory, but in practice, it's impossible to "prove" something isn't a scam. MtGox could be a scam just waiting for enough money to sit there before taking off for all we know, that doesn't mean they haven't given properly demonstrated that they aren't a scam. That's why anything anonymous should be boycotted from the start. It's hard enough keeping a public business honest, doing business with an anonymous private one is basically gambling with your money.

Then if they turn out to be long cons, then they haven't properly demonstrated that they aren't scams.

In practice, an anonymous wallet or mixer that has demonstrated they are not a scam, are merely long cons (mybitcoin.com) or sleeping trojans.

The closest thing to a trusted anonymous wallet is the trusted wallet you run on your own computing device. It is actually hard to get more anonymous than running a local wallet.

Most tor hosted mixers and wallet services you simply have to assume are scams until demonstrated otherwise.

I took his question as meaning an online wallet though, like one where he just logs in and has access to his balance to spend as he wants.

Yes, very easy.

1. Get Address and private key from www.bitaddress.org
2. Print your keys
3. Send BTC to that address.
4. keep private key away from the computer.

EASY!

The only wallets I use are those that are in my own possession, so sorry, can't really help you there if you want one that's hosted.

I'd highly suggest just getting a wallet on your PC.

Do you have any suggestions on Trusted, Anonymous Wallets? 

It does suck that I had to be the first to report this but if you look at http://blockchain.info/address/1NRMGqPYXwPoAGHiPAMzBgkqCcmgms3hjH it looks like this guy has been at it for a while.

I just wish I could find out who the scammer was...anyway, at least I still have 2.5 BTC left.  I was "smart enough"...if that can be said when scammed...not to send but a small amount of my total

Sucks that this happened! I always do a lot of research and speak to people before I send anything, although I get that someone has to be "the first."

Onionwallet (Onion wallet) is a SCAM.  Prior to using the Onionwallet site, I could not find any reviews on the site.  Well, I was just robbed for about $165 from that site.  Here is how it went down...beware and don't make the same mistake I did.

1.  I deposited <1 BTC into 2 different accounts
2.  I received a message that my BTC transfer was being processed (correct amount shown)
3.  After 45 minutes, the BTC was simultaneously taken out of both accounts
4.  The BTC, according to blockchain, was placed into 1NRMGqPYXwPoAGHiPAMzBgkqCcmgms3hjH

5.  I am no longer able to log in to either account, as the site is a scam itself.

What is the tell tale sign is that the OnionWallet site will allow me to create a new account and log into that account; however, I cannot log into the accounts that I deposited in.  After feeling something was fishy, I used blockchain.info to figure out exactly where the BTC went and that my accounts in OnionWallet are empty.  My password is abstract, and I take good care to maintain its confidentiality.

Are there many scam wallet sites out there like Onionwallet?  I researched OnionWallet before I deposited, but there was no one saying that it was a scam.  One look at the blockchain 1NRMGqPYXwPoAGHiPAMzBgkqCcmgms3hjH let's me know that this guy has been scamming quite a bit.

Sad for sure....Anyone have any suggestions on a trustworthy, anonymous wallet site out there?
