There was an exploit in Metamask or something, every website was vulnerable and also issue with a Hardware Wallet so that maybe the reason why this number went up so high.
The reasons this went up so high can be seen on one of the images that I posted before. This image:

I am sure those who had money in exchanges like Coinbase, Binance, Kraken are safe from all this bullshit of web3.
Those scammed are altcoins users. If they are using bitcoin, something like that may not happen to them but they like to use shit coins. Holding on exchanges have its own risks. Not your key not your coins.

Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin
Looks like a lot of people out in the world doesn't have the knowledge or understanding about Phishing scams. Since hackers are still able to use the phishing technique in 2024 to scam people easily means a lot of people enter the cryptocurrency world without proper security understanding. We in the forum have been discussing these scams for long time. That why we have not fallen for it, X.com has now become a paradise for scammers. I prefer to stay away from social media as much as possible.

It's not like they don't know that phishing exist, they know or must have heard one or two. There is two possible reasons. It's either they are bot contended with what they are have and looking for cheap means to get freebies which often as a result of greed or when they clickbait on a trap by hackers. A scammers will either make you believe something to be too good to be real or they set trap for you in places where you don't expect and when you lose guard, you get phished under a second.

Scammers always modernized their ways into their victims and most of than not is when there is a trend. When Defi protocols were the new thing, they used that to plug lots of money, when it was NFTs, we had many of them her and when meme came, same happened. Even Bitcoin was ones a trend, there was a time when a young boy hack into notable and influencial people and request for  Bitcoin and many of them sent the bitcoin, even Barack Obama account was use to scammed back then. Scammers are always ahead of people, talent they are supposed to use to be creative, they chose to steal instead; isn't that pathetic.

We in the forum have been discussing these scams for long time. That why we have not fallen for it, X.com has now become a paradise for scammers. I prefer to stay away from social media as much as possible.
Just over 3.5 million people is the total registrations on this forum, more than 80% of that number is inactive and of those who are active there are many not using the general discussions board, they focus on spamming the forum.

This shows that very little members of the crypto space have basic knowledge on how to identify and avoid scams, but many people have the idea that there is lots of money to be gained from crypto. Put both together and scammers have the perfect target audience to find their victims.

If careless people and newbies in the crypto verse are still easily fooled by the crypto multiplier scam, Ponzi schemes and the likes of the pig butchering scam, then how do you expect them to be smart enough avoid phishing scams?

Negative!
It is a pity that some internet users don't think about their safety while browsing online and they will fill all kind of form they see and click on different links because they think that the internet is a friendly place forgetting that there a lot of scammers online looking for who will fall for their trick.

Another thing I observe is that some people that are been scammed are greedy and they want to get funds from where they never invested in. This is why the moment you are online you suspect every strange mails and links that you are not aware of.

The key is to steer clear of websites with annoying ads and avoid linking your main wallet to unfamiliar sites. The incidence of phishing scams is likely to rise as more newcomers enter the crypto space without adequate knowledge of how to safeguard their assets.
The main thing is to know what this scam is and also having general know about scam. Phishing scam can be easily known and can be easily avoided. But you are also correct, it is very important for us to disable ads on our browsers, not sharing our emails anyhow and know how email phishing and others also are. As you can see, this type of scam is increasing almost every month, scammers are seeing it that people are falling victim for it and this will attract more online bad people to use it to scam.

Detecting phishing scams is even more challenging compared to other types of scams, and it's not just newcomers who fall victim to them. During my time on this forum, I've witnessed even experienced members sharing stories of having their tokens or assets stolen through airdrops. I also know of someone who contemplated taking their life because their wallet was emptied after connecting it to an airdrop site.

I'm just curious if these 324,082 total victims are all new in the crypto space.

I think those people who engaged in discussions about how to avoid scams in this community might be a great weapon to defend themselves from all kinds of cyber attacks that lead to scams.

Notable Wallet Drainers

Based on the reports they stopped services and turned into wallet drainers.
So we must avoid services that provide personal information and possibly most of them require KYC.

I posted recently about how MS Drainers scammers used Google ads to steal $59 million from 63000 people in 9 months, according to a report. What I saw today even surprised me more about how people do not care about how to avoid scammers and hackers.

You can easily understand what I am saying from the news title: Scam Sniffer 2023: Crypto Phishing Scams Drain $300 Million from 320,000 Users

Theft stat

Notable Wallet Drainers

How do they initiate phishing activities?

On the former thread, we only talked about MS drainers. There are other ones. They use their Google and X ads which was formerly called Twitter to get through their victims that they drain their wallets. Other social media or means are also used.

Phishing sites are increasing day by day. You can see that from this chart:

I was thinking people will be able to know about phishing scam. We talked very well on them on this forum. But there are still many people that do not want to look for ways to protect their wallets and giving way for wallet drainers to steal their coins and tokens.

There are still more to know about them, read full on https://drops.scamsniffer.io/post/scam-sniffer-2023-crypto-phishing-scams-drain-300-million-from-320000-users/
