He asked me for a .01 loan via PM that would be secured by 10,000 DOGE, which at the time was worth ~.0065 BTC. I explained to him that is not how collateral loans work and that he would need to offer collateral that is worth more then the loan amount, he said that he would try to get more DOGE to be able to borrow .01 BTC.

Maybe an hour or two after that he PM'ed me again saying that he "lost" the doge from paying back a friend 8.5k DOGE and gambling the rest.

At first I thought that he simply did not understand how collateral loans work but by the end of my encounter with him, I believed that he was trying to scam me out of ~.0035 or potentially pull some kind of larger scam.

This is also one of his alt accounts.
He posted with it, to reclaim an account after a loan:   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.9676377

Well I lent him a small amount equivalent to 0.005 btc for his account. Based on the way he communicated, and his post history, he has been looking for loans all along. Did feel fishy, which is why I didn't lent him a larger amount. He did repay the same day, and requested another loan the next day, which I had to refuse.
He also has a positive trust rating from this user: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/adamcheek-360724
Who apparently gave Shetkid a loan. Not sure, if that is true though. An Admin can probably check the IP, and determine if its an alt(just to avoid people getting scammed in future). He was loaned 0.03 from that user, which I doubt anyone would do, for that kind of post history. But, I am not certain. Just putting out a warning.

To be clear - I didn't make the trade.  I realized it was a scam right away.  I'm just posting to warn others.

This guy tried to run a fast one pretending to use tomatocage's nme on skype as an escrow.

Easy to see through, tried to get me to accept word from "tomato btc" that he'd sent a wire and tried to get me to send 30 btc...

How'd you know it was him?
Who else would it have been? He was in the middle of a trade with him and knew the details of the trade, both of which I assume were not posted in any sales thread

I can't believe that anyone would ever fall for this.

Although IRC channels and skype may be good for negotiating terms of a trade, they are both very bad for giving payment addresses or finalizing escrow agreements as they are both very difficult to confirm the identity of the person talking to you because they allow you to use any name that you choose and there is no reputation system to warn others of imposters
