All version of USDT has block explorer in omni, ETH and TRX all of them are traceable as long as you have the transaction hash or the address itself. Just like anyone I never heard about encrypted tether address. I guess only privacy coins can do that like monero which cannot be tracked. Where did you hear this encrypted address can you give more information?

Hi,

My friend sent Tether to a scammer who used an encrypted tether address.  I didn't know that this was possible on the blockchain since everything is recorded.  Can my friend find out what the real tether address is and hopefully track down this scammer?

Thanks!

If your friend sends the Tether ERC20, then you can track using the Ethereum Blockchain. Or he sent the Omni Tether, also has a TX. So everything can be tracked. But unfortunately we also don't know the owner of the address even though we can track it.

So tether not yet obsolete all their omni supply at all? I thought almost all supply was already converted into erc20.

Not even close.

You can see in their website, updated today, that all top balances in tether rich list are from bitcoin addressses, not even one from Ethereum address.

Looking at how ricshaw never returned we will never if it is possible or not since he didn't shared any more information. But from what we can gather, it looks like it is not possible at all. I mean maybe someone gave them an exchange address? That way the money goes to exchange of their account and they can move the money around without being tracked any way they like. There is plenty of methods to give someone an address and get their money but never to be followed at all.

Mixing is still a thing and exchange scamming is still a thing and people could do that. It doesn't have to be an encrypted address, that doesn't really exist in stable coins, and as far as I know it is not heard of before as well, so maybe they just couldn't find where the money went as noobs and figured it would be encrypted for some reason.

There's no such thing as encrypted tether address. And we all know that once you have sent it, there's no way that you find the scammer base on his address alone, and everything is irreversible.

As others have pointed out, it's better if you can send us the transaction and take a closer look as to how your friend says that it is a encrypted tether address. Maybe the scammer really play him all along and take advantage of your friends lack of knowledge about how crypto works.

It is difficult to track the scammer's Tether address, because the scammer is not alone, and your friend who has been a scammer victim will not be able to find them to ask for his Tether again, because most scammers intentionally make an encrypted address so the victim does not know that they are is a scammer.

Interesting how is that possible, Blockchain is very transparent technology, every successful transaction can be seen and recorder, how could it be encrypted, thats impossible USDTether is using a different  Blockchain namely ERC20 from Ethereum, OMNI from Bitcoin, TRC20 from TRON you can track and check even from this Blockchains if the transaction was made Unless you're making a mistake by sending it to the wrong address or even those unsupported one.

Is this possible? Theres no way a tamperproof blockchain could  be vacuum like this. Tether is running on erc20 network, hence transaction ID no matter centralized it is can still be recorded. Unless, there is a way to filter the blockchain nodes or you have a super computer that is way powerful than the rest of all combined nodes. Maybe ask your friend if he really send it on other address, cause chance that this is not executed is possible and just hanging on the network.

you just need an omni explorer to track it properly, as you won't see the balance in common block explorers. It might be the case.

First time to hear that there's an encrypted address for Tether. You know what, if this is possible for Tether then others have already used it with other cryptocurrency wallet addresses.
Like bitmover said, provide us other details so we can check if that's real.

This is not possible, as far as I know.

Do you have the transaction ID? Give us more detail so we can take a look.

Tether can be an ERC-20 Token (Ethereum) or Omni Token (Bitcoin). If it runs in the bitcoin blockchain you just need an omni explorer to track it properly, as you won't see the balance in common block explorers. It might be the case.
