Well the short answer is "don't buy Amazon gift cards". I'm starting to think that Amazon, Uber et al are bad for the economy, and may not be the best way to buy things.
How does one buys things through Uber ? Haven't heard that one before.
Amazon has changed the way we do things not only in terms of ecommerce but also on the technical forefront.Not sure why would you say it's bad for the economy.

I think that you already noticed the scammers pattern. They tend to lock their threads to prevent people from leaving feedbacks because they are most likely shitty comments that came from people who were scammed by then. It's your job to avoid scammers because scams are not moderated. No one will scam if there will be no one who will let them.

Please watch out theres a lot of scammers on this site and no one is banning them

they are selling "amazon merch accounts"

all lock their threads
Unfortunately,forum doesn't take any actions against obvious scams.Not worth the time of DT members to tag 100 newbie accounts created to scam on daily basis.I know it's frustrating but forum doesn't seem to care.Reporting them doesn't help.
If I had to propose a solution : Restrict Newbies from creating self-moderated threads.
Yep, I think that's a pretty good idea.  At least the admins would be doing something

Most of us are aware of how bad it is on this forum, and it seems like it's the noobs who fall for the usual tricks.  I'd stay far away from anyone selling gift cards here.  You can be pretty much guaranteed that their stolen, thus making sellers of same inherently dishonest.

There are lots of sticky threads warning people about different scams being run. I expect the staff spend enough time just managing the spam and determined scammers will be able to avoid bans so it might be wasted time. The scam section of the forum has probably saved a lot of people from in the past and is the only real option to education people.
I agree ,partly.Matter of fact ,a newbie who gets redirected to this site for the first time and he finds an attractive deal ,like in most cases of digital goods scammers ,without giving it a thought,he might just fall for it.He wouldn't have time to go through stickies and see how forum works.Onky after getting scammed he'd question the credibility of the forum to entertain such scams.I mean the most obvious question they'd ask is If everyone knows it's a scam,why it is still being promoted ? I understand is not possible to moderate all the threads but atleast such obvious blatant scams should be moved to trashcan if reported.

It's easy to avoid that you don't need to transact on newly created account. That's the reason why people can easily scam here because you give your full trust easily for persons you don't know and dont have a good reputation here. to make it easy and safe for both of you use escrow every time you make a transaction to any persons here.

You can always leave a negative trust on the scammer's profile.

There are 2 things for everyone to investigate.

1) If the seller/buyer account is newbie, avoid him/her.
2) If there are negative trust notes, check the reference thread and then decide.

After you decide to make the deal with the seller/buyer; offer him/her to use an escrow service.

Code:
If;

the Offer is denied > Cancel the deal.

Else;

the Offer is accepted > Make the deal.

End.

You need to police it yourself, be your own guard against scammers here. There are many but unfortunately the forum doesn't ban them.

You didn't notice that op mentioned this threads are locked once created so a member has no option to post to warn other members of taking due diligence.
Newbies make thread, ask interested people to pm them for more info,and lock the thread.
I have even noticed some members even unlock their thread to bump and lock it again

Sticky threads don't do much as the majority of the newbies don't bother to read any of them. If they did, then this forum would look completely different.

Less people getting scammed, less people asking for loans without collateral, less people asking the same obvious questions about activity, and the list goes on.

In general, less of all above mentioned will greatly benefit the browsing experience and result in less spam due to numerous people advicing those newbies the same thing over and over again in the same thread.

(Possible) scams are not moderated. Forum policy.  Smiley

19. Possible (or real) scams and Trust ratings are not moderated (to prevent moderation abuse).

Q: Why haven't you banned who is an obvious scammer?
A: Possible (or real, not for me to decide) scams are not moderated to prevent moderator abuse. If we start picking out which ones we call "scammers" and ban, we would make a lot of decisions based on biased opinions.
