why would you not want to verify the blockchain?  how would you know you had the right info?

I think I found a suitable answer from the cgminer help.  I assume it has the same meaning in the qt clients.

--scan-time|-s Upper bound on time spent scanning current work, in seconds (default: 60)

What do you mean by "scantime"?

In the client there is an option to set the scantime.
I do not know what you are talking about.

Well that would be nice, because Armory always sucks away my CPU power when its scanning the last part of the blockchain.
