Filipino youth volunteer is on the right place i guess because its the philippines territory you need to defend your territory even if your enemies is giant like china. Who else will defend. China claim it byforce because they are polluted in there country. They are greedy mindset they dont have heart in endangered species. They eats dogs. They only want money and power so if philippines let china claims it. SOUTH CHINA SEA will be a dead sea soon.

There is no point in taking on China, unless Philippines receive military support from superpowers such as Japan and the United States. The Chinese Army is too strong, and they will destroy the Philippine contingent in a matter of hours. In 1988, Vietnam had a similar confrontation with China, over the Johnson South Reef (Spratly Islands). Dozens of Vietnamese soldiers lost their lives, and in the end the island came under Chinese control. I don't want something similiar to happen to the Filipinos.

As per the international law, the Scarborough Shoal belongs to the Philippines. But as we know, the Chinese never respect the international law. They will just invade and take whatever they want. Anyway... it is a small useless shoal. Just give it to the Chinese beggars. That small piece of land is not worth the lives of soldiers.

Yeah they are only following what they want and what they are thinking the dont have a respect for the other countries they are assuming they are the worlds strongest country just because they have the largest country . And it is not good that they are not attending on the UNs bilateral talk . They are claiming the are that they do not actually owned .

China does not have friendly relations with any of its neighbors (including North Korea). See the status of various territorial disputes involving China below. In almost all of the cases, the Chinese have unanimously invaded territory previously controlled by other nations:

1. Territorial dispute with India: China invaded Aksai Chin and Depsang Plains (37,244 sq. km) in 1962. Still remains under Chinese control.
2. Territorial dispute with Russia / USSR: In 1969 China invaded Damansky island. Beaten back by the Russians, with heavy casualties on the Chinese side. However, in 2003, Russia ceded 720 sq.km of territory to China.
3. Territorial dispute with Pakistan: Pakistan ceded the Trans-Karakoram (Shaksgam) Tract (5,800 sq.km) to China.
4. Territorial dispute with Kyrgyzstan: 1,250 sq.km ceded to China
5. Territorial dispute with Kazakhstan: ceded the territory to China
6. Territorial dispute with Tajikistan:  1,000 sq.km ceded to China
7. Territorial dispute with Vietnam: Known as Sino-Vietnamese conflicts of 1979–90. Chinese occupation of parts of Hà Giang Province and Spratly Islands.

Fair enough. I've never, ever understood why we have anglicised names for foreign places. I'll bet less than one per cent of people from elsewhere know what the Chinese call China for instance.

Why do these contested places have such ludicrous names? Scarborough shoal, spratly islands. Were they all discovered by stout Yorkshiremen?

That are the international/english names.

Majority of the islands have their own names in the specific language of the anrainers.

To clarify buddy its not a useless shoal as what you think.Thats why a big country like China has an interest on it.

Here are the treasure of Scarborough Island
1. Natural Resources like fishes and corals etc.
2. Natural Gas
3. Minerals
4. Huge Oil Deposit in Scarborough Shoal Island

I believe that the fishing rights are the most important factor. The Chinese fisherman are very active in that region, and the waters around the Scarborough Shoal are some of the richest in terms of abundance of fish. Oil is not that important. Now the prices are going down, and new deposits are being found every now and then.

That guy has no clue about what he is talking about.

There are 3 main factors why china wants everything in the south china sea and fish is not one of them lmao.

1. 40% of world trade goes through the SCS/ geopolitics
2. Huge oil deposits
3. Huge natural gas deposits

How delusional can you be to think that china is risking ww3 for some fish.... jesus

I highlight the last thing because it is obviously the main
reason why the little island of Scarborough Shoal is being
claim by China as their island. source http://

scarborough-shoal-island.html?m=1

and also.. the shoal will provide a good strategic position to build a military base or something similar to "protect their territories",... or just in case they decide to take over the rest of Asia, it would be good location for a military airbase to serve as rest stops for there troops before heading off to invade some poor country.

well..this are just wild speculations of an idle mind, so you guys don't take it too seriously Wink

Its part of Philippine EEZ and it should be the Philippines has a jurisdiction over tht shoal. China has an overlapping claim. They are using thier might to intimidate their neighbors.

June 12, 2016, Fifteen Filipino youth volunteers who sailed to Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal on Independence Day to plant a Philippine flag claimed they were harassed by the Chinese Coast Guard, resulting in a four-hour standoff. The mother Chinese Coast Guard ship and two big Chinese Coast Guard boats arrived. They ordered the youth volunteer to go back to mainland Philippines stating that the ‘lake’ (Scarborough Shoal lagoon) belongs to China.

Who really own Panatag(Scarborough Shoal)HuhHuhHuh?
