One of them told me recently that going to school is a waste of time. To him, people spend so many years in school and still come out to do things that do not really require any form of academic rigour to handle. He cited examples of graduates ending up as fashion designers, photographers, event planners, etc. That’s share waste of time, isn’t it?  These ones could have invested their energy in these vocations rather than waste their time studying what is not really relevant to their lives.
as much as we have had a lot of discussion bothering on this topic, i would never be tired of reemphasizing this fact that school is not a scam. the Nigerian educational system has given us this mindset, and this is the reason why our country can't measure up with the other part of the world in terms of innovation and producing of expert in engineering, medicine, law, and the different professional field that going to school exposes you to.

do you notice that most of the skills school dropout or others that did not even attend school can comfortably carry out are small skills that are not all that useful in the society and don't contribute that much to the growth of a nation? when you go to real site where engineering work is being carried out, who are the expatriate you find in that place? what about a medical setting? if you are looking for the best medical doctor to carry out an operation on you, can you comfortably go to someone that is not certified? life is not all about photography and content creation or graphic design and coding. there are skills that are okay, and anyone can learn by themselves or from any source they find but when we talk about useful skills that require expatriate knowledge, you can't take the place of getting a formal education out of it.

Well, that may be true. Many youths ‘doing well’ in Nigeria today are dropouts. A lot of them are into music. A lot of them got into the limelight through reality shows and they seem to be doing well for themselves.
we might be doing well in entertainment and that might not require going to school, but have you considered that till now our refineries are not working and that most of the real jobs that are done in the oil and gas field are being done by people that aren't Nigerian? if everyone goes into music and entertainment, when you fall sick, who will take care of you.

School na scam!  I hear this phrase a lot of times these days, especially from Nigerian youths. Ask them what they mean, they will tell you that the whole hype about education being the foundation for a productive and profitable future is all lies – that  all the talks about schooling being the gate pass to a life of comfort are all made up.

As far as they are concerned, Nigerian schools are teaching them things they may never need or use in life. Unfortunately, the society keeps telling them that the road to success in life lies in school, when they can actually see that the most of their peers doing well early in life are school dropouts. And the ones that the society idolises don’t even have degrees. That is confusing!

First people should understand that, education is a means of learning and gaining knowledge, however this knowledge after been acquired can fetch you Money depending on how you decide to apply what you learnt, but one thing you most understand is the fact that, education is not a one way ticket to start making money, people across the world that have money are business owners,  if not all the professors we have in our universities would have been billioners by now. There are lots of people we have in the society that didn't go to school but are very wealthy, that's because they are in one trade or the other.

School is not a scam, is the view of most Nigerians that have made it look like that, that's because we don't have industries or companies for graduates to work, so the issue is not about the education people go for, it's the failure of the Government not create environment for people to pursue their career after school.  If you go to other places of the world like Europe that is closer to us, you will know that the government appreciate knowledge acquired, because there are lots of industries that create employment for them. So for me, school is not a scam, the education you acquired will forever be with you and it's not a waste, so we should rather focus the energy to on the government to create jobs instead of blaming the school system.
