Actually it's a welcome development I must admit, because it's a decision that will affect him directly in the future, but it's also a decision that will look like a direct attack to his predecessors , and most of them I believe may be his bosses and it will definitely looks like biting the hands that took him  to the top, though I have heard of few governor's in Nigeria that have done that in the past, but
I think it's really a bold move that is very much commendable, and just like what the op has already said, that crazy amount of money they are being paid will be channel to something else, that would be beneficial to the state.
It is not about bitting the hand that feed him. Alex Otti of the labour party has said it numerous times that he don't have any political godfathers, and that it is the people of Abia state that brought him to office and for that the people of Abia will enjoy their money and the dividends of democracy. But why will past governor's be paid pensions, are they paying them pension for looting the state government account for for doing what exactly? Governor for eight years who have stolen lots of state funds without any meaningful development is being paid big amount as pension, where as class room teacher who worked for many years is paid little or nothing as pension. I will say Alex Otti has made the right decision and I wish other governors will emulate his footsteps.

That's a welcoming move and these governors and their deputies has already stashed enough fund which will feed their further generations hence the scrapping of this law is good but at the same time what's the guarantee that these funds will be routed towards something which will benefit the needy one or towards building nation? These needs to be a clear and transparent roadmap about how this funds will be used.

With regard to this. Ex government pension is not supposed to be scrapped  their pension at  all, because must of them should put hand in that salary to feed themselves, because many of them if they should scrapped their salary things will become worst for them,so to respect our formal government, let's help ,them to antispate so the they will not have problem, because many of them don't have money as we think
In this Nigeria now is very bad for someone to be in such position and come down again due to some unessery mannerisms,I think scrapping their salary is totally bad

I saw in the newspapers a very captivating story, that Governor Alex otti of Abia state for repealing the law backing pension payment for ex governors and their deputies
The governor has really done well by doing that, being a government is a political appointment, why do you have to pay them pension after leaving the seat, seriously it doesn’t make any sense to be to be paying ex governors pension, I don’t even know why our politicians are just so selfish, all what they care about is their pocket, and they are never satisfied with the money they have. Anybody wey go do governor for dis country, we self know say na billionaire the person go be, Wetin that kin person still dey look for money do? Wetin dey wan dey use pension do, after the billions wey dey don steal time wey dem dey office. Seriously na better thing the governor wan do.

If Alex Otti is scrapping out pension scheme for ex governors, I do hope he has alternative source of income or project to put in their hands so that they don't gang up and give him a hard time in government. Am sure he too would be planning how to keep a source of income upon exiting the governors office when his time comes.

It might be a commendable move for you, but not all who benefit from such would be happy with such a move. Am hoping that his state becomes more developed with the funds that would become available and that the economy of the state would become more favourable to the people living and trading within.

The governor is trying I don't give attention to politics in Nigeria because people uses ethnicity to cover defend evil and condemn good work. Left with me the top government officials need not all the allowances the received at the end of the tenure in office because what they have is enough to carry them through life, imagine the salary of a seating government, and contract allowance even the looted or embezzled one and still receive pension, it just a way of running down the people treasurery.

The was of it all most convert public property to their personal property by way of privatizing and use indirect means to acquire them, though the laws by the governor may seem to witch-hunt but is good to help allivate the state from treasurery breakdown.

For sure the governor is making a good move for the state but it's going to look wicked of him for the ex governors, because it sounds like removing food from the mouth of others. When I look at how much a governor must have accumulated in his 4 years of sitting, its amount an amount that could feed a community for months but it's all wrapped in one man's pocket because of how corrupt the system has been.

I seriously don't like to involve myself in issues concerning the how the a state is being managed because I'm so convinced that it's all for the sitting governments favour and playing a shadow game to deceive it's public audiences.

This is a very good decision, these ex governors who have amassed such levels of wealth during their time of stay in office still keeps the state indebted to them monthly, their pensions are huge and their numbers keeps increasing,  thereby increasing the responsibilities on the state.

I applaud their decisions and strictly support that every governor which rules for the number of possible tenures should have no entitlements afterwards. Like its crazy, comparing such acts to the actual pensioners. Civil servants labor for 35 years plus and are entitled to pensions, governors who serve for just 8 years are entitled to pensions too. Its not supposed at all and the new rule should be maintained at all costs.

What are they giving them pension for, retired civil servants has been complaining about their unpaid gratuity, pension, the so called wicked governors fail to listen to their lights, it's a shameful habit of our leaders, how will you continue to waste the resources of the state in things that are not meaningful, those ex governors has looted enough so they should fall back to the money they embezzled until the day nemesis will catch with them.
Why would they receive pension when they never served the state with sincerity, Abia state has been the worst state form the eastern region in terms of governs and delivery of campaign promises to the people, soon many loop holes where this governors embezzled money from will be identified and stopped.

The decision is actually a good one and I pray that others governor's should follow suit. This show that he has the interest of the masses at heart unlike some governor's before they will leave office they will want to devise a means of getting money from the state.

It was applauding to the governor at my learning about the news update. Such is indeed a welcomed development because the past governments doesn't add values neither do they contributes to the welfares of the society if not just of sitting and retiring from offices while earning payments they don't work for or even if they deserves it as honouranary recognitions from the bases of their amiable services during when in offices.

So it's better of if they gets cut out from the allowances and the so sit at home payments of Ex's. Those funds can actually be invested on other amenities that can bring fortunes to the societies at large instead of such enrollments of enriching the riches more with the public funds. But it's not all about scrapping these Ex's governor's from receiving further allowances that'd be the bone of contentions here but how the pending and restricted funds can be productively utilized to more developments and infrastructures being obtainable based on where the scrapped payments are channelled towards.

One of the major problems we have as a nation is this habit of spending way above what's expected of us. How do you even explain that after all the governors are entitled to whole they where in office, they are still given other previledges like pensions after thier term investment office. And the sad thing is that after leaving the governorship position, it's not as if they won't be contesting or occupying another office oh, they will still be actively serving in another position which will give them privileges and average Nigeria can't even think of getting and at the end of each month another money comes in as pension again? We've really missed it.

If this decision stands, then it's a good development to see that a sitting governor is interested in cutting down cost of unnecessary expenses coming from the side of the government.od only we can work on reducing how we rakelesly spend our money for so many unprofitable things, then we wouldn't be borrowing money from  external sources.
Everybody wan fagi without taking or making any sacrifice and I think if they managed to implement this it would be a good idea because instead of waisting unnecessary money for something wey no dey important dem for use am put for other place make the money dey of better use. This country is filled with so many unnecessary payment that are hidden and needs proper evaluation because they should be used for better things other than waist them on non important things.

You see, my stance is always on the need to halt such practices. Putting someone who is already wealthy on a lifetime wage isn't necessary. Some might argue that a governor cannot be expected to be poor after leaving office and needs a sustainable income. However, I disagree.

We must face reality. Many governors are already financially secure. We need to reduce the financial burden of governance. Despite calls to cut costs, we continue to allocate significant funds to governance. Governance often receive the highest budget allocations.

Governor Alex Otti's actions in Abia State were commendable but not every government can follow suit. We see former governors transitioning to roles like senators post-office, yet we still provide them with lifetime salaries, cars, and more. While some rewards may be appropriate, offering lifetime salaries in Nigeria's struggling economy is unjustifiable.

The decision taken by governor Alex otti to scrap out the law backing pension payments to ex governors and their deputies is a bold and commendable move. It shows commitment to responsible governance and the efficient use of public funds. The step is a great one  and example for other leaders to follow, especially with the predicament and challenges facing our nation.

Sincerely, these ex governors don't need the pension those funds can be channelled or redirected to more pressing needs such as infrastructural development or social welfare programs, it can bring a positive impact on the states and its citizens. Some of the amount spent on  some state ex governors and their deputies is outrageous. In Nigeria, the position of a governor is a juicy one. We all know the benefits that these governors are their deputies benefit during their tenure in office, both their families, friends, associates and allies benefits. Why not scrap out pension for ex governors and their deputies and use the funds for effective projects.

What's your take on this issue?
I applaud Gov Alex Otti of Abia State for taking such a bold step in ensuring fairness in the system.paying ex Gov pensions is just another means politicians used in looting our Money. This is just the kind of leader we need in Nigeria

I salute the governor of Abia state, for his commendable and bold decision to scrap ex govrnors and their deputies pensions, di ex govrnors and dem deputies no suppose see the move as witch-hunt because di law go affect him wey be di present governor and im deputy wen dem tenure finish. Aldo people wey serve for government levels suppose de entitled to pension wen dem retire, but di money wey people wey de for leadership positions de loot wen dem de office too much, so based on dat, to continue to de pay dem money wen dem comot for office be like to de pour cup of water inside ocean. Wen our leaders embezzle money finish wen dem de office, nobody go probe dem afterwards, so make dem de chop dem loots, make present government no go de add more in di name of pension.
