But they make that money by suckering people into buying into an insecure chain, deliberately screwing the actual poor, which is to say, the people who cannot afford even a GPU so are forced to buy into all the ponzi schemes aka altcoins the rich people who are able to not only afford GPUs but also electricity enough to power GPUs keep creating.

So basically you are advocating stealing from the actual poor, and justifying it on the basis that you can steal from them cheaper if you get to use your existing password-cracking rig than if you had to actually buy a little dongle that even poor folk could maybe manage to scrounge up enough electricity to run.

All along knowing full well that your daily new ponzi scams are deliberate scams.

Do you seriously prefer all the heat and hassle of GPUs to the nice cute little USB mining dongles?

USB dongles could let scrypt mining spread to the masses without fear that a bunch of password crackers with banks of GPUs will PWN the coins; instead they will have to blow a fraction of the cost of a GPU on a specialised cute little munchkin miner.

What is so awful about that?

GPUs are a pain to deal with. Little USB munchkin miners are way the heck less hassle and heat and space and motherboards and so on.

Because just like ASICs, they will release new model after new model. Each with higher hash and each out dating the previous model. After a couple cycles of this only the rich will be able to afford the newest model of the scrypt ASIC and making money off coins for someone who doesn't have $10k+ to drop on the newest and fastest scrypt ASIC will be next to impossible. Not to mention huge difficulty spikes. I just hate them.

Coins for the rich.
Scraps for the poor.

That is what ASIC equates to in my mind. Call me crazy, but that is my opinion and that is how I see it.
GPU's are nice because a lot of people are restricted by the wattage and their power bills. This makes it fair game for everyone to have a chance to mine with their GPUs and have a chance to make money.

Plus, we are 10-12 months away from shipment probably . . . who knows, by that time, building a GPU rig might be even cheaper.  I'm sure AMD is absolutely loving the rate and price at which they are selling out on every GPU they manufacture right now.  I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if they make a move to make GPU mining more affordable to keep on top of this market.

+1 on that!
AMD build a mining card and send asic's back to bed!  Grin

i would prefer that if they weren't overpriced and under a pre-order label

The specs and pricing on ASIC scrypt miners that have been released so far don't look very promising.

Significantly less power consumption than GPU's at the same rate, but pricing is only slightly cheaper than just building your own GPU mining rig.

if amd really want to do it, they can probably makes a gpu with 20mh/s Cheesy

Im pretty sure this thread will get locked or moved, as this forum is for Bitcoin mining  Undecided

That being said, GPU mining isnt going anywhere anytime soon for scrypt, and any scrypt-ASIC wont offer the near efficiency gain of SHA256 ASIC.

Agreed. I remember a post for a scrypt asic that would only be half the price per kilohash than gpus and that is shipping* 2014 q2/3.

* estimated dates are likely bullshit and will be missed by a few months.

Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about the likelihood of Scrypt ASICs being available any time soon or not.

Feel they would kill mining for many people - including myself?

 Sad

keep in mind..... when Bitcoin ASICs were announced.....  in 2012.......  people still got a whole year of gpu mining.....  so i feel that will be the same case here.....  plan on being able to scrypt mine GPU's for the next 12 months....

Sounds OK - Just won't be splashing out on any more GPU's! I don't like the idea of ASIC's, at least with GPU's they can be used for gaming etc if your mining fails.....
