Search function is temporarily down but it does have other alternatives. First of all look for your desired sub forum. Then look for every recent 3 days topics first since this issue is 3 days old.
Most of my search related to bounty. Therefore, I always put bounty related keywords in my search box.
You can search for replies on your sub forum. Click on Replies header/menu and it will bring numerically your results from smallest to largest. You can reverse your search from largest to smallest. Similarly you can use views to find your desired topics. Altcoins bounty sub forum is the most engaged site in my mind. Therefore, it is hard to find new topics fast. If you want to see new topic then click on last post on the header/menu. Search here from newest to oldest. It will show lots of topics in the first page. Today's topic can also be found on 2nd page. So, please have patience to find topics to the next page. Normally you will find all new 1 day topics in first 2/3 pages.
In case of other sub forum you will find most of Today's topics on the first page.
Also, you can set alert to get new topics on your email.
For google search you can adjust time range using tools on google page header and set it to 24 hours or 7 days and submit your forum and keywords in the search box.
Hope you understand my suggestion and never miss new topics or opportunities to stay updated in crypto community.

Use G-search that is integrated inside forum... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search

This is what I get when I enter exact same word

Google is worse in my opinion. This is what I get when I search to find my mentions in the forum. I really do not use forum search much except looking for people who called me in any post.

If you realize that the forum search functions in terms of exact words (eg. a search of bitcoin ethereum returns posts which contain exactly the two words bitcoin and ethereum, disregarding placement and not considering related words like bitcoins), then you can use it effectively.
Yes, this is what I am missing from yesterday, with google search or any other search Engine, the results can not get filtered.

By the way, thanks for your response brother and the informative responses from some other users too.

Probably because of the indexing process underway, which affects the search function, some "last post" entries on the Index page do not reflect accurately (yet) the correct last post: some take into account child boards, but the local Spanish board entry does not seem to have picked-up recent posts created in its child boards.

I saw this, but I am mostly using alternative g-search anyway.
I find that it gives me more precise information I am looking for.

Still down on my end too, but now there's Google search which is recommended over the current one.

The index is being rebuilt. It's taking a little longer than I remembered from last year: it might actually be tomorrow or the next day before it's done.

There's a Google custom search on the search page which is similar to site:bitcointalk.org but with some extras. The forum search is worse in some ways and better in others. If you realize that the forum search functions in terms of exact words (eg. a search of bitcoin ethereum returns posts which contain exactly the two words bitcoin and ethereum, disregarding placement and not considering related words like bitcoins), then you can use it effectively.

Just use Google mates, or StartPage[1] if you're the more privacy conscious type of person. I personally think using search engines are better than using forum software's search engines in the first place. Just use this search query:

Code:
site:bitcointalk.org *insert your search query here*

Same thing with Reddit if you're a Redditor, or any other online forum. Just replace the website URL in the search query.

Search is temporarily down for maintenance. Use the Google search or try again tomorrow.
Still having the same issue here.

Just searched for "Report" in Meta and that was the result...
So I don't know if the topic in my head has already been discussed, oh well I'll just post it again. LoL

Yes, I have the same problem. It makes it difficult for a forum newbie like me to find the topics that interest me the most.

I know there's someone that will make a thread for it here, though I don't know yet how long it's been there but I just experience it right now as I am trying to find an address from another member.

What could be the cause of this maintenance? Or are there improvements theymos is implementing on this feature because AFAIK way back then I tried searching long sentences on the "Search" function and it seems really fine but just the past year or early 2018 I experienced that this become not reliable to do so for long sentences I tend to use "Google Search" function.
If i had to guess, it probably has something to do with the flawed keyword relevance ranking, and overall sluggishness that came with the search function.

I'm not sure if others experienced it the same as i did, but i found it much easier to just use google search than the internal search function. As i said- it was just slow- didn't return the most relevant posts most of the time, and... i don't know. I have a pretty good feeling the search function took up a lot of (CPU)/bandwith power (accessing every indexed post?) i'm not entirely sure though.

I noticed that a couple of hours ago (when I tried it for the first time today), and assumed that some type of change was underway, so I’m resorting to doing what the prompt states: wait until tomorrow or use Google if I really need to as a last resort.

Note: It was fine yesterday.

It’s recent. I did a search 1-2 weeks ago when Piggy’s bot went down and it was working. Probably just a maintenance as the message says.

Just wanted to search any mention for me from any user and ended up with the above message. Have you noticed it yet and how long it's been there?

Thank you.
