@ben8jam - with the Cooler Master v1200 i've the advantage to have a cable for each PDU and i don't have to use the Molex - Sata adapter cables at all (what i could read here in the board that adapter cables can cause issues and just burn down)

Honestly, I'm getting turned around with the all the cable names, but ideally you need enough VGA ports on the PSU for each of your GPUS. Then you need enough perif or sata connectors for each of your risers, while only using max two on a string.

I heard that 6pin sata to sata risers are safer than sata to 4pin molex (if you are using the molex - sata cable).

PSU #1
I have one perif cable that has 4 molex on the end. So I am using 2 GPUs on that.
Then I have two SATA to Molex adapter cables for one each GPU (so each GPU that is using a SATA riser has it's own string of sata cables (each cable has four sata connectors on the string, so each string has three unused stat connectors)

PSU #2
Same deal, except only one Sata string cable being used for a total of three GPUs.
CPU
MOBO

Then the two PSU's are connected via a ATX connector with ground.

I ran into this same problem when I bought this PSU. I bought it on recommendation of a guide, but then saw a comment on Newegg that the packaging is misleading and that is doesn't have enough plugs on the unit itself to support 6 cards. I actually never opened it and it's sitting here. I went with two EVGA 750W PSUs and a ATX connector w/ground. From the review I read on the Seasonic, the cords themselves aren't even that high quality, the EVGA cables are really nice.

As long as the molex are all individual and not a string of them, then you should be okay. I'm still not really sure what's in there. These review seem to point out the problem with it

That's the information i was worried about, so even with the "be quiet dark power pro 1200W" i would ran into the same issue as it has 4 PCIe 6+2 connectors for cables with 2 x 6+2 connectors on each and not 6 individual cables (one for each GPU).

So this one would be fine with 6 PCIe 6+2 cable connectors directly on the PSU - so one cable for each GPU without any splitting and with 9 Molex i have even more than i need.

Here is my QUESTION (maybe was not clear enough Smiley ):
The issue i see is that it has enough 6/8pin conectors for the GPU's but only 5 x 4-pin Molex to connect the Riser Cards.
So i would need to connect 1 Riser via Molex / SATA Adapter to SATA power, correct?

Thanks,
Tom

Maybe the question was not clear enough in the initial post... - i know that the overall power consumption of the 1200W PSU i'm looking for is enough for the system - this is not the question here, it's just about the missing Molex connector if this might cause an issue of if there is any other connector missing.

I ran 5 480's of a 1300w PSU. The power consumption off the wall is 700w for solo eth, and 850W for dual.

So yes, in my opinion a 1200w PSU is enough for 6 cards.

480s have different power requirements than GTX 1070s

They only have 6 x 8-pin PCIE power connectors shared between GPU's and CPU's, this means you can only have 5 connectors dedicated to GPU's.

If you're running the system 24/7, you really only want to put the PSU at no more than 80% load. Sure, it will work, but it may not last as long.

1200*80% = 960W
140W*6 = 840W. Only leaving 120W for MB, CPU, SSD.

Personally, that's a bit too close for me. I would opt for the dual PSU or get a bigger single PSU.

1200W may not be enough for the whole system unless you do heavy undervolt.

You can just get a 2nd PSU that's like ~450W for the motherboard, SSD, CPU, and 1 GPU. Use a dual PSU adapter. They can be bought for like $10.

one Card will take ~ 120-140W (0,965v) and the rest of the system will not take too much so i will stay below 1kw and that should be no issue for the PSU - a friend has similar rigs with 1200W PSU's but availibility of that PSU's is very bad right now Sad

Hi,

As the "be quiet dark power pro 1200W" is not available here at the moment i'm wondering if the "Seasonic PSU SSR-1200PD 1200W" should have all connectors i need for a new 6 GPU RIG:

The other components will be:
  • Intel Pentium G4400
  • MSI Z170A Gaming M5
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 8 GB 2400 MHz
  • Kingston SSD V300 120GB
  • MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8g
  • PCI Express USB 3.0 Riser 1x to 16x Monero (latest Version 2017)

Here is my QUESTION (maybe was not clear enough Smiley ):
