Aditionally, do you think some of that ones could eventually surpass BTC?. Do you think BTC could evolve to include PoS features, decentraliced exchanges, 51% protection and all the new jazz?

This thread is pointless troll bait.

I know this thread could be located @ altcoins, but I prefer to open it here for two reasons, the first one is because it deals with speculation, and the second one because Alt room it´s a mess of people bulling his crappycryptos.

I have been looking at the 2nd generation ones, some of them could be a good long time contenders. ATM I only hodl BTC and some shitty doges that I´ll sell when I can, but the more I read about Nxt, Peercoin, Mastercoin, Namecoin and Ripple, the more suggesting they appear.

As long as I'm quite newbie in this gardens, I would like to listen to more educated and *unbiased* opinions regarding that ones or another second generation that could be a good contender.

I stopped reading right there.

I think these projects will make programmable money become reality - let us be fair, for most westeners bitcoin is an interesting project, but you can almost do everything with fiat money as well - this will probably change with these projects.

The closest is probably xcp counterparty, which is still little off-radar, but tommorow their mainnet webwallet starts.

Strange list of "second generation altcoins":
Ripple is a decentralised system of credit (the system itself predating Bitcoin by a number of years).
Namecoin was the very first altcoin (fork of the Bitcoin protocol) to my knowledge.
Mastercoin is a layer on top of Bitcoin facilitating smart properties/contracts.

These ones probably do qualify as second generation:
Peercoin (a rebranding of PPCoin, first to use proof of stake, from 2012)
Nextcoin (a completely new codebase, from 2013)

So, namecoin seems trash. Im not interested in credit, so Ripple, to the trashcan. Mastercoin, garbage.

Peercoins VS NXT, I bet for next as is brand new coded, with talks in favor to the developers in many levels.

Ethereum is another one that use to pop in this gardens, someone could sketch a bit about that one? Pros and cons?

Don't forget Ethereum.

As an investment, I think at least one of these (Ripple, NXT, Ethereum) will take off.  With Ethereum, who knows?  They need to get going, like...yesterday.  Between NXT and Ripple, I actually like NXT better but think Ripple will get more popular.  But with the way Ripple is laid out, I don't know if it is a good investment or not.

Also holding some Myriad.

I've been fond of proof of stake since I first read a description of the concept by Meni Rosenfeld.  However, I was also a fan of Namecoin (great concept) and an adamant Litecoin naysayer so you might take my opinion with a pinch of salt.  I'm not a dev, but I've been involved with Bitcoin for nearly 4 years.

I'm not sufficiently versed on the internals of Nextcoin to make a fair critique of it with reference to Bitcoin.  I can't see any obvious flaws in reasoning so I'm hopeful that it's fundamentally well designed and will thrive.

Certainly, but I personally think it's far more likely that Bitcoin will remain the kingpin for the following decade.  Of all the "new jazz", I don't see any of it being merged into Bitcoin.  I'm sure we'll see hardforks (to take off satoshi's training wheels; for various bugfixes; et cetera...) but something like PoS is a whole other ballgame.

One thing I've learnt about alts is that just because one has better functionality over another doesn't mean a great deal in terms of adoption. We can see this from dogecoin vs nxt or quark as an example. Both have more possibilities in terms of functions than doge but doge has a huge community 80,000 reddit subs and catching bitcoin. For this reason alone it is a challenger to litecoin. Sure in these forums people know the differences between coins but for most adopters who get into crypto for the first time will hear it in the media or from a friend.

I used to follow a lot of these next gen crypto but really most of them won't go anywhere because they were created purely for greed.

I have more faith in Bitshares, eMunie and maybe ethereum.

Anon based coins like darkcoin Also have good future

99% of altcoins are pure junk

There are some very impressive accomplishments among them. The problem is that they've arrived at a time of saturation and weariness.

I guess the factors that count when you're looking to put money into something new now is community, enthusiasm, marketing and whether there's any heavyweight backing. A BTC 2.0 is going to need all those things as much as technical innovation to find its place.

The 2nd generation coins need to find a way to survive on their own outside of bitcoin. So a bear market might make them stronger and more innovative, imo.

I am invested in Nxt - wasn't an initial founder but bought a lot very cheap from someone who was before there were any exhanges and it was almost impossible to even upload a wallet.

I am also invested in Emunie. They are not in a rush and are not looking to pump, but I like their long term plan.

I would not really call these projects 2nd generation coins as most of them have vastly different objectives.
You can't say one is better than the other. It is like comparing apples to oranges

Proof of Stake as presented by Peercoin (mixed with mining) is a solid approach and this could be implemented into Bitcoin if desired.
I'm really unsure where Mastercoin will go. Anyone can basically colour coins so here I think it is more the types of services that are provided that are of interest.

Decentralized exchanges are another thing entirely. You will never be able to completely remove the trust issue when dealing with fiat.
Ripple may seem like a good idea but if you have to essentially trust a few gateways and don't have true decentralization it boils down to a unified API for different exchanges.

I'm very unsure about Nxt. There seems to be motivation to implement everything and anything. I personally rather have few features that have been more rigorously tested and verified.

Anyways, just my 2 cents
