The message you posted does not prove any of my statement wrongs. Besides, I don't know what does SMT stands for, but I'm pretty sure that a topic or thread would not get locked if it is appropriate itself but just because there are spam in the replies, and that is what I said.
The topic can obviously be locked by the mods if its reported but only if they find it disturbing or breaking any rules, or is a spam by its nature. I never argued that doesn't happen.
SMT = Spam Mega Thread, which is exactly what that thread is. Try to find a post that doesn't say "good project" with a few redundant lines of  "I wish you success/very strong team/I hope you success"; Mods WILL lock the thread if there is nothing productive being written there. I've actually seen multiple times mods going to a board (mainly Bitcoin Discussion) and locking 90% of the threads in the front page because they have turned into an SMT.

In my days as a mainframe programmer, I made a fair bit of cash by writing a special purpose compiler to generate programs to validate data input. It is far cheaper to recrify invalid data at the time of input, than to try to detect and correct the problems caused in the system.

Instead of spending hours trying to correct the board corruption caused by these new and invalid members, wouldn't it be better to block them, or at least to contain them in a quarantine area.

The topic will only get locked or deleted if it breaks a rule itself. You find something wrong in the topic, you report it, and it gets what it deserves as soon as possible, but you cannot report the topic to get locked or deleted if there is spam in the replies but not in the topic itself. That is not how it works as far as I know. You can just report the spam posts within the pages of that topic.
Locking every single topic to stop spammers would simply be locking about more than 70% of topics in the entire forum as you can find spammers in almost every second post in the forum these days.
You are most likely wrong.

I've also seen at least one mod saying that you can report a thread asking for it to be locked if it's turning on a SMT.

So what do I call it?
bumps?
reserved posts?
It's clearly response though
It's clearly spamming IMO as well
It's clearly posting in a row (extreme)
What should be my explanation when I comment on the report to moderator page?

Write everything you find is against the rules and is disturbing. I think there is no restriction on how many characters you can write in the reporting comment, and if there is, I'm sure it is not as low as it can't carry around 20 words which is totally enough to fit the number of rules the post/poster has broken.

Why don't we just lock the topic to stop these spammers?

You can't eliminate all of the shit posters on this forum on just one day or even a week. Moderator's job are more complex than what you think, so there is no point on rushing them the things that we wanted to happen. Please be patient, there is a lot of works for them in this forum.

Some time there is many sensitive case that can't be solve by reporting or moderators leave it " unhandled ". In that case we should create a thread if case is really worthful. It doesn't mean we are self promoting or posting for increase activity or merit. Some times need to make thread  to pay attention for moderator and admin.

And of course we need more moderator for forum. Because daily members quantity is increasing.

The area of report to moderator is so diverse that sometimes I feel even the masterpiece from Welsh is not enough (Welsh, by no means I am questioning your work. That topic truly is a masterpiece). I know hilari AKA hilariousandco always discourage me (and others I guess too) to create topics for reporting issues instead s/he encourage to hit the report to moderator button. But sometimes it's too confusing to hit the button.

This is what the report function is for. Banned.

Leave the report to moderator aside, truth is seeking attention of mod by creating topics also does not work much. Too many spammers. Here are some examples:
1.
So, far we have 21 pages now which means in the last 24 to 30 hours they have generated more 14 new pages!
Latest archive (just now) - Do you see any significant change? It was 21 pages but now it's still almost the same. 21 and 19 do not have much gap.

I understand marlboroza said this...
I reported only last one and wrote nice comment to moderators to check whole thread because it is full of shitposters.

But looks like non - worked!

2.
Same message repeating on all the topics. archive

The users post history is 8 pages long so far and most of the posts (except 1 or 2) are the same copy paste.
Latest archive (just now) - again do you see any significant change?

So after seeing that hilariousandco to get annoyed, I tried marlboroza and hilariousandco style...

Comment on report to moderator page:

spamming pattern (attention mod: stating from this post to the end more 6 pages, most of the posts are spammy. I will check later to see if they were taken care of)
Latest archive (just now) - I checked back and still no significant change.

Anyway my point is - It's really hard to fight the spams. I do not see any fault or lack of enthusiasm from the mods/stuffs. It's pretty clear that we need more mods to share the workload.

Furthermore, before I seek another suggestion for reporting which was the original intention of this topic I want hilariousandco and other mods to understand that when I create a topic about reporting, I just don't create it to increase the number of posts, or to get merit or to seek attention for myself (self promotion). I create it because I am not sure what to do (either explain everything on the report page comment section #3 or to create another topic to get attention of the mod to take care of the topic #1, #2)

Straight to the knowledge seeking:
It's the same topic (3). I found out the topic creator MeYoutoken is basically posting in a row too many that if you start surfing from the third page of the topic then you will see the next few pages has only his responses. It looks like spamming however it also looks like s/he is responding the queries.
Post history of MeYoutoken.

32. Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

So what do I call it?

PS: Thanks for moving my last topic (Finally a Sr. 😊) to the off-topic section. It has nothing to do with the forum itself.
