I'm looking to buy bitcoins using GBP. So part of my question is: is there an exchange that accepts GBP?
I need to make a small payment in GBP. Please have a look at the offer I sent you in PM. Paying from my bank takes several days and costs money as well.

#bitcoin-otc has a rating system so you can find out whether someone is trustworthy or not. You can see that here: http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratings.php. I'm new to bitcoin, but from what I hear, people highly recommend #bitcoin-otc and trust it alot.
Someone could pay davout or another programmer, to add support for GlobalDigitalPay's GBP currency at Bitcoin Central (which is open source).

Trading directly with other bitcoiners on IRC is an option, but I suppose I was hoping for something that looked established and trustworthy, rather than trading with an anonymous individual.

All of the exchanges I have seen seem to rely either on trust or on Liberty Reserve. I hadn't heard about LR until today, and a bit of googling appears inconclusive as to whether it is a scam or not. So the other part of my question is: which exchanges are trustworthy, and is Liberty Reserve a safe conduit for buying bitcoins?
Based on https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/using-liberty-reserve-read-this-now-3176 I'd be wary of using LR for the time being. You'd have better luck conducting a trade using Bitcoin-OTC.
