Besides the financial costs of the hardware, as a business, In order to achieve the best results, mining requires dedication and a commitment to learn. It can be quite technical to setup and maintan. A good understanding of Crypto and computers in general is a good start. Then there are market considerations to deal with. Unless you understand and are prepared for what you are getting in to, the simplest and most effective strategy since the early days of BTC has always been to simply buy and HODL.

YouTube is a great resource. There are many channels that offer guidance to get started in mining and in Crypto. BBT's channel is a great resource. As a long time miner since the early days, his channel covers all aspects of mining and Crypto, with many videos geared towards new miners. I highly recommenced to go through his videos to get a good understanding and getting started.

mining requires a "startup" expense (buying mining equipment), energy, time, effort... the whole process it's not cheap, and is not guaranteed any return since mining difficult could turn your equipment in useless instruments.
most of times, you can earn much more using the same budget and just buying crypto and hodl.
very important= avoid cloud mining. in the best of scenario you can't get any ROI. in the worst scenario you have just financed a ponzi scheme.

I would say before you start mining you should be learning the Basics of Crypto or Bitcoin and how all works like ,
Wallets , transactions , how to make withdraws and deposits and how all works , if you dont know this already.

Next i would be try to mine a shitcoin with your cpu or Gpu you have as testing and to learn how the setup works and stuff with the mining software.
If you found your personal setup and your Coin and algo what you want to mine then you can buy some GPU or Asic for mining.

Maybe this Threads will help you also :

First time/Small miner reference for getting started.  from Steamtyme
Noob's Guide to Building a $1,000 GPU MINING RIG  from VoskCoin
[GUIDE][AMD][NVIDIA][CPU][ETN]How to Mine  from Mattthev

Maybe this helps you bit for starting and understanding.

Start reading useful information from this site
https://mining.help/
When you get tired of reading, buy a video card for your computer and try mining (if your video card does not allow this)
Then you should think about assembling a mining farm from 4-5 video cards or buying a ready-made farm.
Just don't build your business plan on the payback that mining calculators now show.
