You are too late to get bitcoin cash from the fork happening, but even with the free bitcoin cash given to you, I doubt you would make a profit from selling your altcoins and exchanging it into bitcoin as the price of most altcoins are dropping hard at the moment and the exchange rate is bad too.

No you need to have a btc balance before the fork. In my case I have btc balance, i also have balance from alts. But i only got a bcc equivalent of my actual btc amount.

Hey guys,

I hold several altcoins on several exchanges. In the midst of the bitcoin hardfork, I understand that any holder of Bitcoin on an exchange which supports Bitcoin Cash or a wallet that supports it will receive an equal amount of Bitcoin Cash.

If I decided to sell my altcoins AFTER the split on an exchange which supports Bitcoin Cash, will I still receive an equivalent amount of Bitcoin Cash?

Please feel free to explain how and why as I'm sure there are thousands like me looking for an answer to this question.

Much appreciated! Thanks!

No, you are required to have a bitcoin balance at the time of the split.

Lucky for you , you are late.
you would be selling alts very cheap and at a loss, then get the bitcoin cash and at the first dump i see you panic selling it:)
So now you have the opportunity to move in te oposite diretion. Wait for alts to recover, sell them at a profit and then you can go in BTC cach at on of the dips that will certainly occur in the near future.

The bitcoin private keys before UTC 12:20 Aug 1 only can be used for Bitcoincash. After that time, private keys for bitcoin and bitcoincash would be different.

First of all there are selected wallets that IF you have a Bitcoin (BTC) after the split you will have about equivalent Bitcoincash (BCC/BCH) but if you have altcoins you are not even in the split so you will not have BCC/BCH after split. Only for BTC holders.

Oh, bummer.

Well then, I heard of some devs who developed an electrum hard forked wallet that supports Bitcoin Cash. But it doesn't say anything about supporting BTC... thoughts on a wallet that supports both BTC and BCC?
