You can by BTC cheaply and securely off of MtGox...that doesn't stop ebay buyers from purchasing them at double market value.
Maybe not but neither does it stop me from coming into this thread and providing the buyers of XRP with information.
The point is that anyone considering the purchase of XRP will not only get a better price through the Ripple order book, but also a more secure transaction.

doesn't matter what the market rate is. OP is willing to sell x amount of XRP for y amount of BTC. Just because the market for BTC is $34.50 doesn't mean I'm willing to sell my BTC for $34.50.
