It is illegal to spam them though against CAN-SPAM act right?
Depends how you take it. If you don't know how big corporates and brand advertisers use this as "business leads" used to generating traffic or sales to their products! or whatever (as i say if you know how to use it, you know the value).
Rest, everything is legal until you get caught
