Hello all, I have attempted to sell several items on btctalk and I never get any interest, but I can sell everything on ebay for the same or occasionally more money. I want to support the bitcoin community and I abhor ebay and paypal.  Am I doing something wrong here or is there a better place to sell with btc?

You need to sell things on bitcointalk that can easily be protected by escrow. If you are selling tee-shirts or DVDs then it would be your word against the buyer's in the event of a dispute. Someone acting as escrow could confirm that payment was received or that a package was sent/delivered, but could not confirm what was in the package.

In general the best kind of things to sell on bitcointalk are digital goods or digital services (that can be delivered digitally).

Right now I am selling a asic blade backplane with power supply and pcie extenders

That will sell. At the right price. Which is very little now unfortunately ....

Correct - If you really want to shift it quickly make sure your price is competitive and not above what it's worth.

I think as soon as the price stabilises people will start using BTC to buy things.

We've seen the volatility and people generally don't want to be on the wrong side of a 100% in a year increase in value.

I can completely understand that. but it seems that everyone on here sells in btc, and I am the only one with no sales.

Depends what you are selling. Generally only stuff that generates bitcoins sells well.

You're not the only one, hence post #2.

"Price stabilizes" will have to mean something ridiculous like exactly zero trades on any exchange above or below a single dollar point, for example $700.xx, for at least 6 months straight. And then when people still don't buy stuff with BTC with stability like that, more excuses will need to be made.

Any excuse whatsoever will be sufficient to explain people never buying things with BTC.

Not sure your point? People hoard bitcoins because they expect the price to keep going up, we all know that. It's a fairly simple concept.

People don't buy things with BTC.

Wouldn't put it quite strongly as that but essentially, yes, most people here believe the value will increased markedly in 2014 and beyond so ..... we buy stuff with fiat instead Smiley

This will only change if (ever) the price stops shooting up.

In case you didn't notice, it crashed from ~$1200 USD to ~$600 USD. People STILL haven't been buying things with BTC.

Because people see the reason for the "crash" (China), and see it going up again in the new year. It was $10 to $20 this time last year. Its $700+ now.

I don't even call it a crash though. It was $200 just a few weeks before it got to $1000. It was just another correction.

If they like the btc, they could buy with btc and then buy some more btc.  I also accept paypal.  I am not sure of any other reliable way to transfer money online.  At least just using paypal I save the ebay monster  fees(even though paypal is owned by ebay it still saves some) It also seem to me that most things on the fourm are sold in btc.

They could do but ... in general, they don't. Just not the mentality to swap out btc for fiat / items. That's what a 70x price increase in a year does to you.
