People talk about investing in Bitcoin all the time, and by investing they mean buying, but selling is another part of investing, and just as important one. There are many strategies for buying, like buying dips, cost-averaging, buying once in few years and so on - but what about selling?

What's a good selling strategy that maximizes profits and minimizes risks? How to sell as close to ATH as possible?
For me as long i already get profit, i will grate it. Because if we already profit but still think about "ahh just if i sell it higher, i must be get more profit" will make us stress too. Trading with profit and loss if make us stressed, then it is not healthy.

The possibility to guess the top of the bubble is extremely low because the market is too manipulated. But RSI on a weekly chart is one of the best indicators, a record high RSI is food for thought.

I think it is hard to tell when the market has reached Its ATH. You just need to have in mind what you already want, how much you want to achieve and when it reaches that amount you should be ready to sell. But you can still hold on and be watching which direction the market is going next after you have reached your plan. If the market continues to go up then keep on watching it and do not sell your coins yet till the market starts to fall back, you can then sell and wait for another good time to start your investment again.
Many of us often do not set goal for our investment because we all want to take the highest value of the ATH, but I think it will be easier to know the ATH now, unlike before. Like you rightly said, I think the easiest way to know that the ATH has ended is if the price of bitcoin start dropping drastically, though we will lose some value of the ATH, but we can still gain enough if we quickly sell before the market goes down completely.

For this increase, I am suspecting this would not be the one that will lead us to the ATH yet, I think we will still have some sort of correction back to $10k, but that should not make anyone to panic sell now, there is no way the market will continue to grow with correction, although the lowest I think we can see for correction before the continue surge is $7k, but we must at least touch $10k in one of these days before continuing on the  surge journey.
do you know what ath means ? ath means all time high and the last ath that we experience was way back on the year 2017 where bitcoins value reach 18kusd and above  . after the year 2017 , there are no ath reported yet up until now because the value is on playing at 8kusd and above  . anyway , back on the topic .  i believe that we all have a selling strategy and my own strategy when it comes to selling goes like this , i will sell my btc as soon as i need the money and i dont usually wait a longer time , same thing happens on my other coins but all of them dont recover yet  , i cant even sell them at above 10 usd .

You should not expect to get a maximum profit as possible on thinking when to sell. No one knows what will happen next.

As long as you seem that profit is now good or does make sense to sell or anticipate that somehow a dip will happen soon based on their deep research and analysis, then I don't see any wrong on selling on the specific point.

Same goes for buying on dips.

We cant certainly know if the price already reach the top, therefore its better to set a target price to sell rather than guessing if the price is already the ath.

My strategy is I take profit at times as long as the value of the coin is beyond of how much I bought it.

Then will monitor the market and hold what's left.

I depend on my target value most of the times when I will put specific percentage of profit before buying a coins or tokens so it mean I don’t really rely on the ATH thing because for me the more you desired higher profit is the higher the risk put on it also,so in some occasions people become greedy also by expecting higher income

So for us to have enough but winnable strategy, then put the selling target the moment you decide to buy
Many scenarios have like that. Due to the greediness, we tend to wait for a price hike. The tendency, when it does not reach, we make a stop loss. I am also a victim of my own greediness. I put some bitcoin before and I expected for it to rise up. Yes, it arose and I thought I will become profitable once I wait more. But the reversal came unexpectedly. I end losing my capital.

Selling crypto asset is depends on the holders want to get percentage profits, but most of the holders want to sell their coins at 10 to 15 percent price increase to make sure minimize the irsk of their investment.
Waiting for all the high before swlling coin is very nice strategy but need to extend patience to achieve the goal.

If you base in the past 2017 when btc go high that no one imagine it then i think the situation is like that now so this is really high then we this is drop also after that so better to not do buy or risk in this because of the high price and wait until this drop again but market is unpredictable so btc can still grow and for me buy alts if this is very cheap like eth, xrp, bch now,Moreover atleast buy 4x with gap and with btc, alts that you use for investment example if btc drops 20% then buy and if this back when you buy then sell it then in alts too
Definitely, unexpected to see its huge growth in few days cause we are thinking for its slow pumps as it is started to be like that but it gives surprise.
People are wondering why and asking the cause of its pump but we are just get puzzled which one.But we are now of what we want to happen in the market, and maybe we should hope for another ATH this time again unlike last year 2018.

I think that every trader placing orders for the sale of their coins Yes, he himself set the task in a certain price framework.  you can’t want what you can’t do to analyze price fluctuations on your coin.  Or there will be a tough position regarding the price for sale or you just want to get rid of some coins.

person who do have fixed up mind where hitting up the target you would definitely sell no matter what but well we do have our own choices
and as long we do profit it doesn't matter.

Selling, that big thing which makes all of us happy when we sell above the price we have bought and that is how trading started in ancient times.
Coming back to our times you can do this, use programs for technical analysis, you need to analyze trends at different time-frames. Look at the 4-hour chart, then look at the chart for the day, then a 3-day time frame, and make a complete picture of the current price trend. Then make a decision.A sharp jump in the currency by 40% or more during a day is probably a pump. Higher the pump is, stronger the currency will fall
A good strategy is to buy some at any current level and then wait, if dip buy again if pump sell your bitcoins.
Another not verified fact is that bitcoin pumps when more people are into mining and now is summer so all school boys from information technology colleges are surely getting into it.

a good sales strategy when the price is up at a point of at least 20-30% of sales. I think this is the right point now because the strategy has convinced the profit we get from the purchase

There is no strategy for sell expect one. That's depend on you and your demand. How much profits you need you could sell on that price. We don't know what will be ATH, so you need market research. That's your fund, so loss and profits both you have to bear. No one responsible for that. So my suggestion is, if you don't want to hold long then sell on good profit what appropriate for you.
to plan it we must have an analysis beforehand, so we know what rewards we will get. thus the good time to sell is discipline towards that analysis. with discipline towards analysis, it will certainly sharpen our next analysis

Set a target profit. If it reached your gosl profit then sell it. But if you are to know when is the right time to sell btc and other coins, consider to learn some technical analysis or some indicators. The easy and basic indicators are macd and rsi. Try to learn some of it.

Parabolic curves are always followed by a sad state of affairs. Look at what happened last time after the $20,000 all time high. The people who were buying below today's price had held onto bitcoin and then they were in bad shape and they still are in bad shape from that. To just allow your bitcoin to sit there doing nothing is an amateur strategy. Look at the whales and what they do: whales buy and sell and move their coins constantly. They do not just sit there doing nothing. They want their money moving around and taking action.

I used to use MACD, RSI, CMF, and KJD for short-term trading, but that applies to BTC / USD trading which might minimize risk rather than trading altcoins that are full of speculative. If you choose to trade altcoins I suggest that you determine the monthly term to minimize your risk and be more profitable when the market is in a bullish condition.

the sales strategy that I usually do is I calculate the purchase costs into percentages. a minimum of 20% profit from the purchase I use for sales. this will make the point of safe for our trading and we can continue to trade when the safe point of profit we have got.

Selling is not quite difficult, it first depends on your motive of coming to the market if you are coming as a short term trader or a long term trader. For a short term trader, you have to first set a goal on the percentage you wishes to attain for that period which you have to keep a realistic value in mind, and then sell immediately you realize it.

For a long term trader, it is difficult to know when the ATH will be, you just have to ensure you buy at dip and once there is an increase that is satisfying, you sell and wait for the market to dump again in future before re investing. We all are expecting to see ATH of $20k, but someone who invested when value was $3k would not tell me that he has not seen enough value at this present price which I think is still ok for profit.

At the end of 2017, when bitcoin was at the peak of its price, I noticed that a lot of news talk about its price, liquidity. My opinion is that this was done specifically for people to buy bitcoins. After that, the course fell. When I see a lot of bitcoin news on TV again, I will sell everything.

Good selling strategy?

No matter which system or trading strategy you do make use as long you do see green or gains with your capital it is already considered
as a good strategy. It might vary on how big or small it is,it would just matter if you would be contented on what you earn or not.
I agree on what you have said.It doesn't matter what strategy you are following or formulated as long you are making money then it is already an indication that you are pretty doing well on trading.Selling is really part of investment as op says but sometime scenarios that cant really be avoided where it do blocks you on doing so.

Theres no exact selling strategy in the market as long as you earn profit then sell it dont be too greedy. I'm prefer 3% to 5% quick profit but if you repeat it multiple it bring a good return for short period of time no need to hold foe long term but everyone have their own selling point or prefered goal when making trade but for me I'm happy for small profit.

As long as you earn from your capital, that will be considered as gains. We all wanted to have bigger income, but sometimes we earn small by going too far. All should have a moderation and a limit where if the price hits it, you should sell it at once. Dont worry about earning small because it will go big if its all gathered.

The selling strategy is all up to you and to your preferences, because it depends on when and to what amount you bought, meaning preferences vary, meaning someone who bought bitcoin back when it was 3k he would say i would sell once its 3 times, and one who bought it a 10k would do the same seems a bit hard, so you should set your own preferences and be sure not to sell all of your coins cause that is the safest option to prevent regretting if the price goes up after selling.

I think we are scared to tell people when to sell because in theory we think that crypto will always go up, now we do not know the bottom but if you ask anyone they will tell you that bitcoin will never be under 1 dollar ever again, I mean ever, not even in 100 years.

However, if you ask them what the price will be in a month they will have hard time telling you what it will be, if you ask them what it will be in 100 years they will tell you it will be a lot higher than this. So, when you are buying there are numbers it will never hit again, it will never be 100 bucks, it will never be 1000 bucks, so when it goes down its right time to buy, however even if it hits 50 thousand dollars tomorrow there is no way we know when it will stop and be 100k which is why we can't really do great selling strategies.

Generally I believe who are happy with little profit they have not this type of problem. So If you feel you are right with a little profit you can start sell. In this case you should find out the resistance level and the support level. If any coin touch the resistance level this is the right time for selling. And if the coin suddenly crossed the first resistance level then wait for second resistance level touching. thanks

sales strategy can be done by anyone who has bought, because to do this strategy at least we have bought and with that bought we must have a goal in the end. so sell whenever it is seen from how he buys and even though he sells at a price that is still low but when he buys at a much lower price, then i think that is also still in good condition and the strategy is just planning because selling can happen when you have felt that they have acquired it at certain times

The only selling strategy that I have is setting goal, I set a price on how much will I sell my asset that will satisfy me, also I set when to stop my loss. Do not be emotional and greedy and you must decide what goal you want to reach.
maybe besides you specify how much you sell you also have to see the potential for coins to pump. I would rather advise you to sell maybe 50% of your assets when maybe your market potential is good you can sell the remaining 50% when the pump price. it's a strategy that I can do maybe you can try it.

No stratergy works second time.

So for us to have enough but winnable strategy, then put the selling target the moment you decide to buy
I am also looking for the all time high price. Newbies in trading are unaware on how to buy and sell coins. They think that being high price is good, but they don't know that it is an indication also of the exhaustion. If you will buy during the spike of a coin, assure that you might be bull trapped. That is what happened to the people who bought at 19K dollars. So, looking for ATH is a great factor also.

Best way is to move with the trend. Pick your assets and be in them when they go up and move out when they are going down. Profit should be when you are completely happy that you have reached that assets full potential, or if you are happy taking money out as profit to invest in other assets to achieve the same goal.

For example, check out this with Ethereum.

Use the daily timeframe, EMA 34 (YELLOW) is usually pretty good. When the asset is above (it acts as support) if below (it acts as resistance)

You have huge periods of accumulation and huge periods of growth in value. (Accumulation is moving into a stable currency and rebuying back lower = more ETH)

I think it's difficult to reduce the level of risk, we know a lot of risks in every trade, I just follow a trend where I have to buy and sell, usually from what I see on YouTube, I learn trends from the MACD indicator, I think you might be looking for a lot sales strategy out there

Selling is an art in itself, and I believe it depends on the person. God knows I really tried to learn day/swing trading, but I always end up losing. I had to do it some other way.

Now, I buy the dip and HODL. Selling strategy, 6 digits. Cool

Perfect Selig strategy would be learning all coin's moves from the most beginning and set a price target for our investment. Let's call it exit point, the number which will satisfy your needs and will not be impossible to achieve.

for a good sales strategy is when we get a price up 30% above the purchase price. because we can make it with 30% as a substitute for time and all things related to profit. it is a percentage of the minimum profit in sales.

Maybe at 30% could be sustainable if you go for faster returns of investments, but if the strategy is to expect more gains I do prefer much higher and wait until such time it could take further towards 100% increase. For now it might be not possible yet, but somehow if you do have lots of patience, someday it can be achievable if stay strong and motivated.

the choice of the "number" you sell at is also hard too. this is where lack of greed can help a lot. greedy people keep waiting for more profit no matter how much profit they are in. but someone who is putting his greed aside can make better decisions. take a certain % profit and be satisfied with that.

That sounds like me, I hodled through the last ATH, even though I started entering Bitcoin at $450, and even to this day I hodl because I want to sell at the top, but I want to be less greedy from now on and sell continuously. So, after reading your post I've decided that I will begin selling after the chart will start going parabolic after a good amount of time inside the bull market, and I'll be checking technical indicators that can signal that Bitcoin is significantly overbought, like those rainbow charts.

You just Sell thesame way you Buy as a day trader.  that is, buy all the important dips and sell all the important highs. ATH doesn't matter much in this case. Profitable highs are what is important.

In simple terms, you can't time the market

Which basically means you should not be so much pursuing all time highs but rather your required profit numbers. You can just set a certain percentage of gained profits after which you start selling. But that doesn't mean that you should sell all your stash at once as you can't time the market (it's definitely worth repeating). In this way, you can come as close to an ATH as possible and still have something to sell if the price beats all your expectations

Selling part of trading is crucial and it should be planned very well too. Aiming for a high profits before selling is dangerous because your target price maybe too high and before you know it, price starts to go down and you ended up holding a bag of coin with a price that will take 2 to 3 weeks to reach.

Normally, people do not care about the selling part because there is two type of selling compared to millions of ways of buying. If you buy from the right price then there is no way you can lose money, you may profit less or you may profit more but as long as you buy from the bottom there is no losing in this scenario. However selling is just two type, you either sell when it goes down and make a loss which nobody supports but in itself it evolves into two types where you either sell and make a loss but buy even lower and drop the average down or you just sell and leave which is the worst one.

The other one is selling during profit era, you bought cheap, now bitcoin is up and you are considering selling, well there is no wrong there, you can sell whenever you want, you can sell now or later or whatever and the result will be same= profit.

You can never predict the all time high so don't beat yourself about it when you continue to hold as the price drops.  All depends on your risk tolerance I guess.  It can be a high mental barrier to sell something you have been holding for many years.
yes, indeed we will not be able to predict what the highest price is and when it will happen, buy and sell hold back for the next few years it depends on each of us, everyone must have different desires, some want to invest in the term short and some want to invest in the long term, so to sell or buy, of course, everyone has a different time and method.

What's a good selling strategy that maximizes profits and minimizes risks? How to sell as close to ATH as possible?

the least risky strategy to sell in order to maximize the profit is to sell inside bubbles, the bigger the bubble the lower the risk. for example the bubble of 2 years ago at $20k was the excellent time to sell. the problem is in detecting the bubbles.

it is hard but there are many indicators for them. the obvious one is the fast rise in the shortest amount of time. if you look at the 2017 bubble, the rise from $10k to $20k took less than a month. and a 100% rise in such a short time after a whole year of bull runs is a guaranteed bubble. the "after" part is important because there are other times that we have nearly the same rise (like this year) but since it is not after any bull run and it is instead after a huge bear market and a gigantic drop, the 100%+ rise is considered small!

the choice of the "number" you sell at is also hard too. this is where lack of greed can help a lot. greedy people keep waiting for more profit no matter how much profit they are in. but someone who is putting his greed aside can make better decisions. take a certain % profit and be satisfied with that.

also just like buying, selling doesn't have to be a one time thing with all the coins in one order pressing the big red button saying "dump". it can be incremental too.

You can take the risk of selling when the price of bitcoin reach all time high, but the down side of it, is that you need to acquire bitcoin again due to the fact that it'll rise further. So, you're set to buy again at a price that is only slightly lower than the selling price which might not happen since the price is going up. Thus, what is the point of selling them. Why not hold them.

minimizing risk depends on your preference---minimizing fiat losses vs coin losses. erring on the side of caution to preserve fiat capital often means losing coins. personally, i'm more worried about losing coins.

it's impossible to know where the top of the bubble will be. from my perspective, the best you can do is take some profit off the table (i never sell everything) during the bubble, knowing that there will probably always be a painful bear market that follows. it seems sensible to start setting some sells at 5x-10x the previous ATH and going from there......

Mostly we need luck to sell at the most possible all time high but my strategy it to sell after a huge bump on the price but many times the prices will bump even more after I sold it but still get satisfied with what I made and that is important think for a trader as well.

Its inevitable that when you do trade, selling is another significant part

What I usually do is check on Technicals, one I mostly use is RSI

when it losses strength I go sell
