Well, with the current ridiculous swings that bitcoins are having, it's no wonder that big businesses won't risk receiving payments in them  yet.  Why would they, if they have no knowledge on the subject.  But once bitcoins settle down to a certain value for a bigger period of time, I'm sure they will gain more acceptance.  I think most businesses that accept bitcoins, do so because they expect them to rise in value, not because of ease of transaction.

I thought this was worth a punt and last week sent an email to tesco along the lines of

For those not aware, tesco are the largest supermarket in the UK with 3000 UK stores, 2000 European stores £52 billion revenue.

"when can i pay for my groceries in your tesco stores. I am a regular customer and do all my grocery shopping at tescos, blah blah.., oh an by the way tesco as a business could save millions by accepting bitcoins as well as credit/debit card with savings on charges.."

Although i wasnt holding my breath and didnt expect much, within a few days i got an email from admin saying they had consulted their business development division and that although they had no plans to implement this, they would be monitoring the situation with bitcoins in the future.
