There was a big rise in the price of bitcoin in the last 12 hours or so which ultimately results in users paying higher transaction fees. Your transaction wasn't prioritised by nodes simply because others paid higher fees.

Have a look at this site to get an estimate of what fees to use at a given time. You can even use less than what they recommend
https://coinb.in/#fees

This site will show you the current state of the mempool and its size.

Unfortunately, the mempool is backed up right now by over 32000 transactions. You can go here to check where your transaction stands compared to other transactions. https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/770d682a3c6226defe6588930fe0945a769ce8841bb0b3bef4ebb661b98ad7d1 This may take a while....

It's worth checking how many transactions are waiting to be confinmed by the miners.
When there is too many the fees are higher and you have too wait foe longer times.
Weekends is better for transactions, I suggest you to check the blockchain website before sending bitcoins.

high transaction volume that makes many queue, so if you want to be faster you need to increase your value of fee, if your fee higher i think your transaction is have a bigger priority in the queue, so you can get 1 confirmations with less time

Oh, the fee is so high. $12 out of $72 means more than 16% of fee. With the increase of bitcoin price and transaction volume, the bitcoin transaction fee and speed are hot topics of bitcoin scalability.

But the point is did he really pay $72 in fees? I believe it was only $12 at most, but correct me if I am wrong.

The longer confirmation time might be caused by miners taking a longer time than average in finding blocks. That also happens from to time to time. Especially now that some miners point their hardware back and forth to Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin.

Well 12$ is a quite huge fees quite astonished to see transaction with such a significant fee still unconfirmed. I think the block size problem is getting serious or may be miners are making such decisions voluntarily to increase fees.

What matters is the fee/kb. And indeed, the network is very busy. Just look at the mempool size: https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx and keep in mind that normal is usually under 10 MB.
Post your transaction ID and we can give more details. Also an idea would be to search around for the threads where people offer to accelerate transactions and ask them to help you out.
I think he/she already paid high transaction fee i.e 12$, may be it would be only due to congestion in network nothing else.

Also an idea would be to search around for the threads where people offer to accelerate transactions and ask them to help you out.
This one is now the best possible solution to accelerate the transactions, i have also seen some of the threads offering services like this.

No, the transaction volume is very modest, lower than usual.

Are you from another parallel universe or something ??
The mempool normally has less than 25k unconfirmed transactions at the normal times.

Right now there's more than 166k unconfirmed transactions with a crazy rate of 14.35 transactions per second !!!!!1
It's usually doesn't even reach 8/s.

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions

This takes us back exactly to when the conversations about applying segwit2. What did they do back then force it ? Scam and jam the bitcoin network so hard in order to show that it sucks right now and needs to be changed.

When they got what they want, they stopped their attacks. But now after the fork got cancelled, they're doing everything in their power to prove it one more time to the public.

This is totally clear. And don't come and tell me that there's no such thing as attacks or whatever. The fees have been so stable through the past months AND that is when the price was soaring so hard with a lot of people interested in bitcoins.

Don't tell me that somehow magically a few days after the fork is cancelled and the price went down, more transactions occur ? Doesn't make much sense.

If you are concerned I would recommend speaking to people on this forum that can help accelerate your transaction, they will most likely do it for free for you. It will be down to the fee that has been taken for the transaction, nothing to worry about but someone may be able to accelerate it for you. But I can assure you that 4 hours is nothing to worry about.

I believe it's the hashrate some of which got shifted to BCH mining and the other declined due to the fear of S2X that was (going) to happen yesterday which went dormant. There are users here on the forum whom you can ask to accelerate your transaction, one of my preferred people is bl4nkcode.
You may also try viabtc's transaction accelerator but chances are least to get your tx accelerated there.

It's a normal things. Your transaction is still pending because there are transactions's fee that cost more than 12$ and the miners are processing it , they're not free at all to take a look at yours. That's why.

You may or you may have not noticed that the network is currently under a spam attack so it might take a couple hours for your transaction to receive it's first couple of confirmations. If it's a really urgent payment I would can van broadcast another transaction with an increased fee but only do this if you really really need to (otherwise it's just a waste of money). If not just wait it out, it will take longer than normal but that is due to this spam attack.

The blockchain.info is wrong. I monitor the mempool myself and the blockchain.info is in the parallel universe. Here is the correct today's evolution:

https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#2d

During typical day, the steady state rate of transaction is equal to the total blocks mined, about 140-150 MB/day. Today, the mempool increased by 37 MB but only 61 MB of blocks have been mined. The sum is less than normal.

There is no increase in transactions. There might be some transactions that are waiting at sidelines. Probably most of the non-important (moving $20 dollars of bitcoins) stopped but the current clog is due to slowdown in mining, not the increase in transactions.   Last 12h was particularly slow, it's like having an effective 0.35 MB blocks. There has probably never been such a slowdown in mining during the history of Bitcoin (except maybe Satoshi times).

The distribution of transactions likely changed. With very high fees, wallet reorganizations and minor transactions are not issued. So the clog might be not easy to clear once the fees start to go down but it will bet better as soon as mining picks up.

Edit: corrected numbers

High transaction volume.

No, the transaction volume is very modest, lower than usual. What is unusual is the mining rate which is 40% normal because miners flocked to BCH which is for the next about 10 hours more profitable than BTC. 40% mining rate is like having a block of average 0.4 MB size.

Things will start to clear up slowly later today.
