HCP you are incredible thank you for your time. It seems that your method is similar to what is on the ledger site with regards to a similar issue on Z cash, and I wasn't sure if it could be possible to do the same with VTC. I am not a techie so will have to "go to school" to follow your helpful detail above.

It's possible... but involves effectively compromising your entire Ledger wallet... as you would need to input your hardware wallet 24 word seed mnemonic into a tool like: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ (NOTE: click "BIP49" to see your SegWit addresses).

Theoretically, if you can find a VTC wallet that supports SegWit and will let you import the private key, it *might* work. But I'm not sure if any given VTC wallet will generate the same "3" address from the same private key... I tried a quick test with Vertcoin Core... generated a random 24 word seed mnemonic on the BIP39 mnemonic code convertor... clicked BIP49, 1st address given was:
m/49'/0'/0'/0/0 3M81vpyFKD2Wz2vySnuZZANNcqkk6goUUp L18efys5GwdKs8KwMufC3ukMms5yUiuqtFpw2DBsFW5pLgewrpMV

used "importprivkey L18efys5GwdKs8KwMufC3ukMms5yUiuqtFpw2DBsFW5pLgewrpMV" command in the debug console in Vertcoin Core... got address: VufLUihJAMZ3u6ytndSFpZXPDQrV16ePpW

Then used "addwitnessaddress VufLUihJAMZ3u6ytndSFpZXPDQrV16ePpW" command in the debug console and got SegWit address: 3M81vpyFKD2Wz2vySnuZZANNcqkk6goUUp

So, it would appear you should be able to generate the same "3" address as your Ledger SegWit BTC address... which means, in theory anyway, you should be able to rescue the VTC.

NOTE: Even if done "offline", you should really consider your seed mnemonic to be compromised and take appropriate steps to ensure the security of your coins. (ie. move all your coins to new wallets, reset the ledger and then move all coins back etc)

Thanks for responding. I sort of understand what you are saying. FWIW I believe there is a way of obtaining the private key used within the ledger nano for the transaction concerned, if this is what you are referring to, and that it could help me?.

Hi HCP, Are you able to advise me please on how to retrieve my VTC inadvertently sent to my BTC address using my ledger Nano. Thank you.
I suspect this will be a lot harder... if not impossible. A "3" address from a Ledger Nano means you have a P2SH-P2WPKH "SegWit" address. I am not sure if you can recreate the Ledger SegWit addresses in a VTC wallet.

VTC Electrum does not seem to support SegWit or hardware wallets so you can't recreate it there and I'm not sure any Vertcoin wallet that supports SegWit will let you specify either the seed, or the "ypriv" or the derivation path required to be able to recreate your BTC SegWit wallet within a VTC SegWit wallet... Huh

Looks like Vertcoin (VTC) also uses "3" for MultiSig addresses... Did you send to a "3" address? If so... Maybe you could recover your coins by recreating your BTC multiSig wallet in a VTC wallet (like Vertcoin Electrum)...

Theoretically, it should work.

I did a quick test and a MultiSig wallet from BTC Electrum generates the same addresses in VTC Electrum.

Next time, be more careful Wink

I messed up and sent VTC from my Bittrex account to my BTC electrum wallet. The transaction has been completed on bittrex. I contacted bittrex about the transaction and this was their response 'You have sent VTC to a BTC address, these wallets have addresses that validate to each other, but the wallets are not compatible for receiving coins. You'll need to research how to remove a private key from a Bitcoin address and import it into a VTC wallet to recover these coins. You may want to contact someone from the VTC community for help.  We can be of no further assistance on this issue.'

Is what they are suggesting possible?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
