i just realized that bittrex (the exchange that always use) have disabled all ethereum deposits and withdrawals with the warning about Blockchain congestion detected under it.

and meanwhile the price is dropping fast and hard.

this is not exactly the best practice but for all the altcoins, specially those known to have serious problems such as ethereum, it is best to always keep them on exchanges to dump them fast and always cash out the BTC or USD to cold storage.

to all you who have your deposits stuck and are losing money, you have my sympathy.

edit: i can see other exchanges have done the same. Coinbase is saying "investigating..." (https://status.coinbase.com/) and i have heard that poloniex has also been experiencing issues.

Ethereum blockchain is collapsing due too many ICOs generating too much activity, it is becoming bloated all the time because millions worth of ETH transactions are transacted all the time due the never ending ICOs.

It is never a good idea to have your money sitting on an exchange anyway, this is another reminder.

This are the some issues that is why no one can beat bitcoin for short time the other altcoin can gain the momentum but they will be ending in big issues. So now that ETH had got problem and most of the exchanges have stopped deposit and withdraw of ETH, which is creating more panic among the users who are having faith in ETH and now they are panic and selling at what ever rate they can.
The real reason for price down it Ponzi structure, this "panic" only for "legalise" price drop.

Even the Civic ICO is now delayed because of the Status ICO debacle.  Roll Eyes

We are waiting for confirmation of our test payments on the Ethereum network and due to network congestion, we are delaying the start of this token sale by 15 mins and possibly up to an hour. We will update this message box accordingly. Thank you for your patience.

Keeping coins at exchanges can get you goxxed.

OP is saying to keep ethereum on exchanges not coins.
and it is a comparison of two risks:
risk of your ethers being stuck, lost,... when withdrawing and also all the problems associated with having an ether wallet.
versus the risks of possibly the exchange turning into gox.

also as a trader you will end up keeping something on exchange at some point. like having an open order so that it gets filled and then as soon as you buy you put a sell order or something.

If the Ether devs don't fix this congestion the price will continue to plummet. Not like a centralized project like Ether was going too far anyways. While I realise keeping coins on exchange often means quicker withdrawals and cash out, it also means your chance of losing coins is higher. I'd rather keep a few coins that lost some value than none at all.
ETH is a bit of a nightmare really, it's at such a size it's not practical to use and it seems recently anyway that it is now a hotbed for people wanting to release ICOs, the price was unsustainable with the state ETH is currently in.

Bringing it back down to sub $100 is a more reasonable price.

Its really informative after seeing your thread i started looking into market price and started read about ethereum article . And also true to keep altcoin in exchanges instead of blockchain wallets.

Keeping coins in exchange is a major security risk. But it seems that with ether there's no other option....

Not only bittrex but also Coinbase has disabled the etherum service, dont know if something in the backstage is happening.

Becaus I have read that when something someone want to pump/dump something there is a group including coinbase and other exchanges that doesn't allow the users to access their coins by taking offline the website like it's happening today!

As we can see again and again Eth is nothing but a bloat unscalable scam crap enjoying pump after pump from insiders, miners and scam ICO's after scam ICO's. Now the network bloat! Eth can't be fix, after 3 years it still the same.

it is not at all the same, it is worse by orders of magnitude.
ethereum is not just an altcoin despite the sales pitch and all the flippening spams. it is a platform that a lot of projects rely on it. granted majority of them are scam ICOs with copy paste or poor codes but there are some poor developers who wanted to make something and were fooled by the sales pitch and chose this platform for their development.

and don't get me started on the price and how it made many newcomers poor.
