Lot of people think that altseason is something psychological that happens cyclically due to the greed of humans who want to get rich and see bitcoin as an overgrown phenomenon.
If you are interpreting things like this, then the entire market is flourishing because of the greed of humans. Every business development and every business expansion is due to greed Tongue. The simple reason why there is an altcoin season is simply because investments are coming into the market.

In that case, what do you think is the role of bitcoin whales?
In the past anyone who mined the coins where considered whales and as time progress the narrative will change as well.

i think bitcoin whales is the cause why altseason show up, because they do a profit taking from their profit on bitcoin, then the move to altcoins
thats why altseason coming and push the price from all good altcoins fly

The real reason why alts go up is because everything else goes up so people invest their money into alts thinking that will go up as well. I am not saying it is guaranteed but when you see everything going up, you want to take part in it by getting into alts and hoping alts will go up too and if you are right it will go up too. Alt season is not something guaranteed, they could very well crash too so people are taking risks when they are doing that.

Plus, when you invest into bitcoin and make it go from 20k to 40k you are really spending insane amount of money, it goes up like 300 billion dollars in value or something as well, whereas if you do the same for ethereum for example, from 500 to 1000, it takes significantly less money and you still win. So people use alts as a quicker way to make money, and they are right to do so, after all many here to get richer.

I know that could seems stupid, but the "serious" question after all of this is: "is this time different?" The answer in my opinion is not so obvious Smiley

Not necessarily stupid, but clearly funny, at least for me.

About "is this time different?"... it may be different because Bitcoin's bull run may be different.
It may be more a bull run than FOMO bubble (longer and possibly with not such a huge drop at the end), and this will affect "investors"' habits.

As long as Bitcoin is safe bet and with higher growth than the altcoins could do on the paper, there won't be any good reason for altcoin season to start.
DeFi could have had a chance to drive that if it wouldn't have looked that scammy and maybe with a different timing, I don't know...

I just love the title "serious question" in a speculation subforum  Grin

Alt season is driven by investment. Greed? Possibly, but not necessarily. People investing into projects they think they'll make them money.
Bitcoin is the safest bet, but after an initial investment and Bitcoin reaching high enough levels, some may feel confident enough with their earnings and diversify into altcoins.
This is what I think.

Unfortunately with every scam and hack we can hear of, these people may think that it's not worth the risk, say "pass" and diversify into something else.

You have answered your own question dude but in additional if the came from the institutional investors have been creating very big FOMO at this moment for crypto and bitcoin. The whales are only accumulating more coins but they were not so crazy as institutional investors. Sometimes the whales where moving to the altcoin and then pump it to get some bucks from altcoins markets too.
Human greed combined with the FOMO created by the whales that makes a pump for altcoin

Yes, I have answered my own question but I'm also asking to you more expert people if anybody have other theories. For me this question is like "what came first, the egg or the chicken?".

If I could rephrase we can say: "what's the trigger for the altseason?". I don't know if its more the retail investor or the big whales that start the pump, maybe the second. That's the real puzzle

Sovryn - Brings DeFi to Bitcoin
Assuming whales have no interest in altcoins this bull season altcoins wont bring huge ROI like that of 2018, whales did have a big part to play in every altcoin seasons, also money keeps coming into crypto at the time, most especially into ICO projects, this time things are just different

I don't see how it can be a really serious question, but I guess it's the stuff people ask about all the time, and there are no real answers. But I'd say that the time of the whales in Bitcoin is over (it's too decentralized now to have any effect), so you might now see whales move into alts and move those markets instead.

Greed? All whales are greedy:)

in my opinion, the demands is the main cause from the altseason, wich mean when a lot of good news coming to crypto world and a lot of investors drop their money in cryptocurrency, thats will make the altseason coming

as you have listed above, one of the indicators of the cause of the occurrence of an altseason is due to the entry of new users when they hear that the price of bitcoin is soaring. trigger all to fall without thinking about the risks that will be borne later. whereas their popes ignore it. we can see that the ethics of the bitcoin price are sufficient for the whales and the miners. gradually new users see only 1% of the benefits.
As for projects that are said to be not valued, this is based on the background of the team that has minimal expertise. experience that is not qualified in the field. so that many of the investors are not interested in contributing to the sale. Professionalism is so tested that the project is truly credible.

Hello everybody, here's your friendly neighborhood anon who talks. This question is blowing my mind since a lot of time.

Lot of people think that altseason is something psychological that happens cyclically due to the greed of humans who want to get rich and see bitcoin as an overgrown phenomenon. In that case, what do you think is the role of bitcoin whales?
For me, the only purpose of the whales is to earn more bitcoin, so they use the greed factor to attract more users into specific altcoins that start to pump without much money needed to do it. Once they pump, and new users arrives, it's a chain reaction that lead to increase of all of the cryptos because people think everything will pump, and in the past this has really happened.

If everything written above makes sense also for you, do you think this cycle there will be some difference?
According to the dominance (rejected from the maximum levels reached in 3 years), and to index like this https://www.blockchaincenter.net/altcoin-season-index/, we are very near another cycle.

I honestly don't think that all of the coins out there can pump as much as the 2017 cycle, but some really undervalued new projects that never pumped too much in my opinion have been accumulated by whales just waiting for the right time to start the pump. My favorite? DERO. Nobody talk about this yet, but the unknown team have developed the most anonymous and scalable currency, completed with a platform to run private smart contracts.

I'm curious to know your opinion, also about undervalued projects.
