Sounds like each of your PSUs that died was on the paperclip trick?

I had three Rosewill PSUs die which were each on the paperclip trick (not plugged into the mobo, just cards).

I read somewhere in the forum that you need a common ground between the PSUs to prevent shorting them out.

I also have a theory that some multi-rail PSUs die early deaths when the "main" (mobo) rail is not in use.

My higher-end Antec PSU's are all happy working via the paperclip trick.

Well, PSU one died about 2 weeks ago and was hosting just 3 5830's
Psu 2 and 3 both died on different identical rigs (6x5830s, MSI890FXA-GD65, Semp140). Now from the wall, one psu runs at about 400-500w depending on if its the mobo psu or I have fans on it.
PSU 2 died in dual setup with a second same model psu that is still kicking fine. It wont power up, or do anything.
PSU 3 died somewhere around 9am pst this morning, after I looked at the rig at 8:40am. Everything was fine, then I came back in after a shower and same result as PSU 2.

Now the 12v is rated at max load of 675w and 65amps. So why this is happening, I have no clue. There are 8 psus in that rig, 2x890FXA-GD65 and 2x890FXA-70 with 6x5830s each. Each setup is 3 and 3 on each psu, with the fans (if they are not AC) are hooked into the non mobo psu. Each 2psu rig runs about 8amps. Each 2psu is also on its own circut with no more than 2amp draw anywhere else in the building.
Circuits are rated for 20amp trip.
PSU 2 and 3 died on the mobo btw, but no hardware damage to anything.

On a related note. Diablotec PSUs are even worse! I had bought a bunch of these at about $5 a pop. Out of 15, 2 are left and this wasnt even for  mining rig, just standard desktop PSU replacement.

thermaltake isn't considered a great brand. they're mediocre at best, but of course all PSU have high end and budget series. there's only a few thermalke models that i would consider getting, and this is not one of them.

My Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W lasted for about 3 months before it failed.  Most of its life was spent powering two 5870s and a 5850, but I'm not sure what kind of load it was drawing.

Infact, Two of them failed within 24 hours at 400-500W draw each.

It's all about the game, and how you play it
Service bulletin: be advised Shadesminoco has had three separate thermaltake 750 rx bronze power supplies used for mining rigs fail in the past two Weeks. Anyone considering them as a new purchase please be advised.
