The reason why the transaction was still unconfirmed is because the TX fee is small and the only thing you can do now is to use one of the online transaction accelerator which you will ask to pay some certain fee to the miner or you can contact one of the TX accelerator service provider we have on here.

Can I cancel it totally?

Your only way to 'cancel' it (in terms of the BTC stay where they are) is to double spend them.

Unfortunately that's not that easy. But if you have the RBF (Replace by fee) tag set (depends on the settings of electrum; it is set by default), you can simply create a second transaction spending the same outputs to one of your addresses, with a higher fee to have them 'stay at your wallet'.

However, a real 'cancellation' is not possible.

Do you explicitly want to cancel it or do you want to make it go trough ? Or doesn't it matter at all ?
Because, if you wait a few hours/days, your transaction (most probably) will go trough.

The problem is that the transaction fees have risen a lot due to decreasing Bitcoin price (people are trying to cash out before its value goes down too much). Here you can check the recommended fee (45 sat/b at the moment which is about 5 times more than what you have paid). If you have the latest version of Electrum (it looks like you do because of rbf), you can right click on your transaction and select Increase fee. You can also wait until it is confirmed but it can take a few days or weeks.

So yesterday I sent funds from my electrum wallet.... they are showing unconfirmed since yesterday am.  What Can I do to retrieve my coin?
Unconfirmed [rbf, 6.5 sat/b, 14.60 MB]  is what it says and then the amounts....
I have never had this happen before.
Anyone have information ....where do I go with this?
