I've been mining on 7950s for six months, cards are fine, no artifacting.

sha256 : easier to find best settings on your miner, less power by underclocking mem, secure, less of a  headache.
scrypt:  pain in the ass finding best settings  for new comers and not only, using a lot of power resulting in fast wear of your cards. Basically scrypt is killing the card, meaning no later resale .

Will the altcoins using sha256 prevail over the scrypt algo in short/long term? According to http://dustcoin.com/mining I see ppcoin' and terracoin' -both sha256- difficulty rising and keep rising. Is this a sign that a part of  gpu miners already picked their choice?

What does that "secure" mean?

If my cards do have 3 years of warranty, I don't really care if they die slightly faster after that period because of scrypt mining in comparison to sha256 mining. Yea, it could be a nice little extra profit to sell the 3 year old cards for <100USD but that kind of money doesn't really matter after many years of service under warranty.

Is it even true that scrypt is killing more cards, that might be just people not understanding the higher thermal stress caused by scrypt which should be handled accordingly.
