Use bittrex for better I think, shapeshift is still young and the spread is not friendly.
I usually use bittrex, polo, askcoin. But if I can't find altcoin which I want to exchange I find another.

What is it you don't understand?

If the users can't set the prices, then where does Shapeshift get its exchange rates?

I don't understand where you got those prices.

Those are some of the prices I can set at Bittrex, or Cryptsy, or any other exchange.  In other words, any price I want.

Shapeshift gets it's exchange rate from the exchanges it holds a buffer on, which it uses to execute your transfer.

So Shapeshift cannot change anything or put an end to the way other exchanges are run, because it won't work without those other exchanges.

More importantly, when the spread is .009 to .013, I can go to any normal exchange and easily sell for .012.  With Shapeshift my only option is .009, and there's a lot of room between .009 and .013 for somebody to make a lot of money.

besides Unobtainium being a shitcoin with no volume

Yawn, 10btc per day, which is higher than some of the other coins listed at Shapeshift.  Of course that doesn't include volume at Shapeshift, which has no charts or any other useful information.

But if you're saying Shapeshift lists shitcoins, and they only have 24 coins to choose from, then I'll take your word and not use Shapeshift.

I don't understand where you got those prices. Go to Bittrex and check the prices, they are not the ones you posted. Also why do you complain. You pay more to get money faster. What's the problem, besides Unobtainium being a shitcoin with no volume?

Shapeshift gets it's exchange rate from the exchanges it holds a buffer on, which it uses to execute your transfer.

It looks like Shapeshift has 6% worse prices than Bittrex. You have a handle on the design of both sites, you can go use which one you like better. What is the issue exactly?

I've looked at Shapeshift.io before, and I've always thought it was a great idea.  But I've never used it.

So I was reading the article about it today at coindesk, and I went to shapeshift to check it out some more.

What I noticed is that I can sell Unobtanium for .00852638btc, or I can buy Unobtanium for .01369863btc.  While all the regular exchanges can have a significant price spread, they also allow you the option of offering your own price.  I am all for the idea of an exchange that doesn't hold your coins, but I don't see myself agreeing to exchange rates that screw you coming and going.

For those of you who have used this service, is that all there is to it?  Can you ask for a certain rate and wait for it to be filled?
