BIP 91 ("SegSignal") activated at 4:46 am UTC today (2017-07-23). From this point, if a non-SegWit-signalling block were to appear it is unclear how much hashrate would be put to extending this block and how much would be put to undermining it. Such blocks might well spawn small forks. For safety, Shapeshift decided to disable Bitcoin and observe the situation.
Since activation, every block I've seen has signalled SegWit. Shapeshift have already re-enabled Bitcoin.

"Activation of Segwit2x for Bitcoin will pause the ShapeShift ability for a few hours on Bitcoin only and delay transactions. Please do not initiate new BTC ShapeShift transactions."
