A few days ago Polish news services spread info about the death of Tobiasz Niemiro the main suspect in Bitmarket exchange scam. Some time ago Bitmarket closed the exchange without warning. There was only a short message on the web page, with no explanation of what happened. Bitmarket was one of the biggest crypto exchange in Poland. Many people lost money, the investigation is ongoing and in media, there are different amounts of BTC claimed to be stolen, but no matter what the exact amount is, this is the biggest scam so far in Poland when it goes to crypto exchanges.

26.07.2019, 13:36 hours. Prosecutor of the Olsztyn-Północ District Prosecutor's Office Mr. Arkadiusz Szulc confirmed in a telephone conversation that the body found yesterday near Lake Żbik in Olsztyn is the body of Tobias N.

Before committing suicide, Tobiasz Niemiro (Bitmarket) sent at the day of his death an email to Adam Socha, journalist debata.olsztyn.pl at 3 AM on Thursday, July 25, in which he identified suspects in the scam and explained everything. Adam Socha stated:

The email was long. He wrote that businessmen associated with BitMarket in various ways are simply cheaters. He gave the names. I forwarded the email to the prosecutor's office. He also wrote that he has materials for me. I didn't manage to answer, but on Friday, July 26, a person reached me. Tobias Niemiro asked that person to give me a recording of his conversation with BitMarket businessmen. I also gave the recording to the prosecutor's office immediately, and I must admit that I was also afraid of my own safety.

The disclosed documents were forwarded to the prosecutor's office and the following day a statement was issued:

Olsztyn - North District Prosecutor's Office in Olsztyn, on July 26, 2019. initiated an investigation with reference number PR 2 Ds 115.2019 regarding a case that occurred on 25.07.2019 in Olsztyn, persuasion or assistance to Tobiasz N. to take his own life, i.e. for an action pursuant to art. 151 of the Penal Code An autopsy has not been performed to date

I think is worth to say in this place that Tobiasz Niemiro was a businessman and social worker, president of the Association for Security, as well as the stepson of a well-known Olsztyn restaurateur and the manager of his premises. As president of the Association for Security, he opposed the early release of the imprisonment of 25 years sentenced gangster called Troll. In the 90s, Olsztyn entrepreneurs lived in fear of a criminal who was active in a group organizing kidnapping for ransom. He supported the local community and above all he opposed all types of crime.

A few days before his death, he talked to his close friend and told him that he was afraid for his life and that it was related to Bitmarket. He has really exposed himself to many influential people. This is so far the biggest scam on the crypto exchange in Poland. I hope that this is the first and last death in Bitmarket exchange case.

Polish expert and cryptocurrency professor Krzysztof Piech, commented on the case, which caused a storm in the media and a war with the KNF(Polish Financial Supervision Authority).

...Bitmarket has been a Polish website since last year, owned by a company supervised by the KNF (Polish Financial Supervision Authority). Some people, including foreigners, decided to transfer their funds from other exchanges thinking that they would be under the umbrella of the KNF...Filip Pawczyński, president of the Polish Bitcoin Association, was the first to publicly identify the KNF as a unit responsible for the "Bitmarket scandal". The president of the largest website operating on the Polish market has publicly warned of the collapse of subsequent exchanges...

...The role of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority in supervising the cryptocurrency market is quite ambivalent and variable. Initially, a lot of freedom was given, which made Poland one of the countries to which companies were brought from abroad, domestic could develop. When the market began to be larger and began to cooperate with the previous PiS government, they began to tighten the screw. Although the supervision maintains that it does not deal with the cryptocurrency market, there were high-level interventions in this respect...

...In 2017, an unprecedented campaign began, the first joint initiative of both institutions in the history of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority and the NBP (Polish National bank), warning against, for example, the risk of falling prices on crypto exchanges, but before cryptocurrencies in general...The heaviest, legally available acts have been brought, as if cryptocurrencies were the most serious threat to the Polish financial system...

...The PFSA can say many things, e.g. that bitcoin is not legal tender. And it's hard to disagree. This is a manipulation technique to show people words that are hard to disagree with. The more important issue is are cryptocurrency markets part of financial markets? Let us remind you that the statutory task of the PFSA is to supervise financial markets. So with a little good will, without any statutory changes, it would turn out that cryptocurrencies are the responsibility of the PFSA. What's more, among the employees of the PFSA there are people who are very well versed in this subject...

The claiming process already started and there are hundreds of victims, from small once to big strategic investors with 150BTC in investments or more. Many offshore companies are involved in this case owned by Bitmarket. This is not everything because looks like in last months Bitmarket was sold to one of the best fintech startups in Poland IQpartners. Bitmarket was in selling procedure which was divided into a few stages. IQpartners claim to be not able to fully overtake the control Bitmarket funds and filled a case to the prosecutor's office.

The Bitmarket exchange scam may lead to legislative changes in relation to the crypto in Poland, as well as to formalization of the KNF (Polish Financial Supervision Authority) in this matter.
Now questions are multiplying, who is behind the death of the main suspect in the biggest cryptocurrency exchange scam case in Poland and what happened with missing hundreds millions euro in BTC?
