I know the 27-30 range is reserved for strap mods, which I have great difficulty with since ATIWinflash gives me "no discrete graphics device found" on both mining rigs and in the standalone tower, so I haven't even attempted those.  Although I figure if I can't get the OC to work first, why push it with strap mods that may just make them even more unstable.

What drivers are you using? I had similar issues when I upgraded a system to 17.5.x.

Also I think some 17.x drivers don't work well with 6+ cards.

I'd recommend going back to 16.6 or 16.11.4, they've both always worked really well for me on my mining rigs. I only use 17.4.4 on my 2 card main PC.

24mh/s for a stock RX480 is absolutely normal.

But with a modified BIOS you can get 30mh/s with the card underclocked and using significantly less power.

Here is an example of my main PC running two Powercolor Red Devil RX480s 8GB at 1100MHz GPU and 2100MHz RAM. I doubt many can beat this for hash per watt.

ETH likes MEMORY speed, CPU speed doesn't matter that much in most cases as long as you don't go WAY WAY underclocked.

 I wish I could push the memory on my Sapphires higher, but the one time I tried them at 1800 was crash crash crash city.

 Only reason the core is pushed at all is that a lot of the algos they mine via NiceHash DO like higher core clocks.

470 and 480 is like the same. I'm getting what you getting on your 470 pretty much exactly the same speed at 70 degrees. How high could it go ? Should I OC ?

I've found OC'ing my 480's doesnt make much of a difference. I get within 0.5mh/s if Im running it fully OC'ed or if Im running it undervolted and core clock 1100. So far the best option for my 480 (XFX Black Edition-blower cooler-Samsung 8gb VRAM) is the flashing the modded BIOS onto the card. Without that I dont see a good enough bump. I have two 480's that arent flashed yet. I run them at -24mV and 1100 core clock. They run at 65C with the fan at 51% in After Burner and they do the 24mh/s. And the card is only using 75-78w. One of them never budges above 75W (which is great, 460 power draw with 2,5x the hashrate of a 460) These cards seem to do much better with the better memory timings than anything else.

27 is what i see people hitting with 470s after BIOS modding, seems 480s do 28-29ish.  It's kind of hard to tell for reference purposes reading threads here because it's not always clear exactly what model someone has and/or what mods they've done, plus I'm sure some is bragging about winning the ASIC lottery.

Anyway, I wanted to make sure i'm clocking in the right neighborhood since I've seen my total shares dropping while the profitability is through the roof, just wondering how much more I could push them realistically without spinning up more rigs.

Yea you right people do talk nonesense. Well I have a saphire HIS icy2 480rx 4gb. I get 21.5 at 70 degrees and it is stable as stable gets I mean it sits there at that speed and temoreturr for weeks no issues at all. Just stock everything. I do not want to oc as I'm afraid to damage something and I do game on this occasion so when I'm done gaming I mine. St stock it is handling this 24/7 mining no problem at all. Do you think an OC is worth it ?

Sapphire reference RX 470 4GB is pulling a hair under at 22Mhash (I have 2 of them in this rig) out of the box for me, -54mv, 1200Mhz core 1750 memory 0 power limit in Afterburner adjustments and no BIOS mods on a VERY warm day in a VERY warm room.

 24 is the right ballpark for most 480 models (higher for the 8GB 470 and 480 models than the 4GB due to faster RAM) that have not been BIOS modded.

 Brand of memory seems to have some effect as well, especially on how well it can take advantage of BIOS modding.

 
 Try running the 16.10.1 WHQL driver, some of the later "Relive" bloatware junk had a significant NEGATIVE effect on hashrate (as did a few of the early 16.x series drivers).
 In my testing, any of the 16.9.x and 16.10.x driver versions had the same hashrate as the 15.12 where the card would work on both, but I prefer the "extra testing" that goes into the WHQL versions and *usually* makes them more stable.

Are these 4GB or 8GB 480s? My 8gbs were doing 24 out the box and just copying the timings and clocking the mem took them to 28 each

I have a 480 and I get just over 21 so I think you doing well. I think 25 is what you should be gunning for over clocked. That's what the other miners are getting. I don't see you going over 27 where did you see 27 to 30 ?  27 is already massive.

I have a mix of 480 cards from MSI and XFX and one lonely sapphire 470.  My 480s seem to not be willing/able to pull more than 24-25MHs no matter what OC settings I attempt in Trixx/WattMan/Afterburner.  I either see no change in hash rate/power OR the system becomes almost instantly unstable and I see zero hash rate.  With settings bumped I still get about 23.5 MH/s out of each 480.  I've tried putting the 470 into a standalone tower to play with to see what I can make it do and can get that up to 20MH/s with Trixx/Afterburner but that seems to be it's max.

MOBO are a mix of FM2+ boards - asus extreme series
All systems have 8 or 16 gigs of memory
running win 10 and have tried win 7
have patched the driver with atikdmg patcher
