I see this post was about a year now. ICO is already a thing of the past. The scammers are back to their drawing board to design another way of manipulation into the IEO.

In as as much as there are lots of scam Ico's I really don't think initial coin offering should be put to an end. It is needed to raise fund for projects but there should be strict regulations to wipe out scam projects.

I don't want to compete with fiat. Crypto and Fiat both can be used in one time. The crypto market is not doing well since the middle of the last year. Not only last year but also every year ICO market faced a high amount of scam incidents! Right now, every coin's price is very low, old investors stopped investing because ICOs are not profitable for the bear market, New investors are not coming enough. So, overall, the crypto market is going through under a difficult condition. This is not an ICOs problem. Last month the ICO market raised more than 150 Million USD, I think that amount is very high according to the present market.

No. ICOs should not be put to an end because i believe ICOs are very good platforms to raise funds towards projects for the crypto community. Even though many people have absconded with the funds of innocent ones i still believe that ICOs should still be in operations just that people should be very careful the projects that they invest in.

Will putting an end to ICOS do something good in the crypto industry?
Yes this will bring in a positive impact. Investors will have a better focus and direction. For now, the entire crypto markets looks very vague. No one is sure of the newly introduced tokens either as most are probably fake.

I think that all ICOs must be given strict regulations, not terminated, so that they can prevent fraud ICOs, so that they can provide security for Investors who want to invest in the ICO. Because if without ICO Bitcoin will be lonely

I do not agree that the ICO must be removed, because not all are purely fraudulent. all you have to do is filter every new ico, so there will be no more ICO fraud.

ICOs should not end, just needs to be regulated for the reason to scam ICOs  being eliminated. Competition between many projects is not a problem and many of them are utility tokens and not payment solutions.

Not this time and there is no need to shut them down unless that certain ICO isn't providing good into the community or it could just ruin the image of crypto space. I know there are still few numbers of legit projects running and it they'll might be potentials for investing. That is only to be a big search for us cause we are already flooded with unrealistic/ unreliable projects causing us to loss if we fall into them.

Nope, not really, not all ICOs does the same with previous scams, some are still rightful and seems to be in a good shape. Stopping ICOs can also lead to a down fall of BTC, besides these altcoins are also made to increase the value and to increasr the demand of BTCs in the market. Its just that sime shitty bastards are using ICOs for some bad ideas such as scamming just for their own good.

Putting an end to ICO may not necessarily be the solution for the decline in the market value of coins like bitcoin, ethereum and the rest of the the top five crypto currency in the market. Although ICO in recent time has become an avenue for scammers to dup investors if their money and that is why so many people including my humble self will not invest in any ICO again.

There is no need to put an end to cryptocurrency and no altcoins in the crypto space can be approved as a means of exchange, peradventure a regulatory body such as SEC is aimed ta doing that So even if we have over hundreds of thousands of cryptocurrency, not every one of them can pass such test.
ICOs can keep coming, just like there are different forms of investments outside the crypto world.

No, there's no need for that. We need to sort for more information to know the best ICO's to invest in. Most ICO'S still do well after the marketplace but very little of them and the  percentage is very minimum. Over the last couple of weeks ago, I have seen BitTorrent making waves in the Marketplace as one of the best ICO's in January 2019 because most Investors that Invested and bought the ICO's should be Happy as well.

If possible that should be a Yes. If all we have from a good project these days can be only airdrop and bounty and they find their way to an exchange themselves and sell their ico there. And if a good verification can be done by exchange to avoid scam project, I think it will be nice.

It is fair to say that the current version of ICO is doomed to failure in the long term, and therefore they need constructive changes or strict rules to obtain the necessary trust status for both investors and developers.

It seems to me that there are new projects everyday in this Crypto industry. This has made me to think about the total number of fiat currencies in the world. I got to know that there are about 180 fiat currencies recognized by the UN.  CMC recognizes 2094 cryptocurrencies as at now.  Looking at the difference, do you think it'll help us to compete with fiats?
How does the numerous cryptocurrencies affect the growth of our Crypto industry.
Will putting an end to ICOS do something good in the crypto industry?
On my part, I would support the scaling down of the number of cryptocurrencies in existence. Since it will be unfair to holders to simply ban a particular cryptocurrency, the solution therefore lies in preventing numerous ones for starting up by putting a restriction or making the process of starting a new cryptocurrency difficult.

Why should it be done? I mean a lot of projects on the market are trash at the moment, but if you search better, you can find great ICOs that have a huge perspective to become really big in the nearest future.

So there's no reason for ICO's to end, because we can't stop new developers to come and start all over again for another promising projects. The strategy of being a good researcher is an assurance for us to determine whether that project is legit or scam. Don't bind yourself with the bad speculations and it's one way of confirming that the ICO will fail or not when you see team members are active in their project development.

I don't think they should but I am of the opinion that they need to be regulated strictly. This (ICOs) have become a medium for many developers to defraud unsuspecting investors while offering them almost impossible promises in the form of roadmaps and whitepapers. Most of the developers just want to grab as much money as possible and then disappearing into thin air. ICOs and the crypto industry in general need complete regulations.

I personally don't think ICO should be put to an end. The truth still remains that there are  a lot of scam project out there.  A little bit measure would be appreciated if possible.  It is very sad and frustrating reading the news headlines about people being scammed of their hard earned money. The rampant occurrence of scam project in the crypto industry, I feel to some extent is one of the reasons for the market situation. A lot of investors have lost huge amount of money investing in scam project. Everyone is scarred to invest in even the real project for the fear it might be scam.

My answer to this topic is a simple no, ICOs should not be put to an end but there should be a measure put in place as to product investors from most of those scam projects.

Actually yes. They will end their lifes soon. And after them will be STOs. This will be more secured to investors. And amount of frauders will be minimal. But, there are some still good ICOs. For example from Huobi Russia. Local department from Huobi Global.

Indeed this is a free market, but it would be nice to limit anyone who wants to develop coins so that there is no deception and danger to everyone in the world because it becomes a very serious negative effect when most people feel tired of fraud everywhere, maybe that will be implemented in the next few years when the development of cryptocurrency is better and more recognized by other countries, but there is no full cryptocurrency control, everyone is aware that not all agree to be held by the government.

To compete with Fiat it is not too strong to talk about it at this time, returning to the recognition of other countries to legalize it is not possible at this time, maybe in the future with all the technological advancements in the world it can be a very good time in payment or a very profitable alternative , we just wait for all the processes needed to take care of all that, don't be discouraged in this situation.

More ICOs I think are going to be more and more since its easy for start up companies to ask funds through it. WE haven't seen it all because networks were created for it that brick and mortar business are going to also release tokens for investors. Its all going to work when no regulations yet.

Of course, not many from the existing coins or tokens will survive in the market for a long time. Probably in a few years most of them will not exist anymore. The token is a bit different financial instrument - I would compare it to the shares of companies, and there is a lot of comapnies on stock exchanges around the world - a lot more then 120 currencies in the world. The number of tokens can still grow without problem.

not ico is one of the profitable ways to make money. as long as investors are still investing in ICO, ico will not be able to die. this is the problem of scammers using this to enrich themselves. they only want to cheat investors by using ICO.

so the way to end ico is to stop investing there.

Despite the fact that on SMS we can see several thousand currencies - this does not at all mean that they are all the same in quality, the vast majority of the projects there are copies of already existing coins. And by and large they can all be replaced by several dozens of altcoins, and we will not lose anything from this. Time will put everything in its place.

I doubt and don't believe ICO has to come an end. Its not because bear market has been running for almost 12 months ti doesn't mean it their end. Of course not! it is actually just the beginning of the rising of the altcoins through ICO projects, which in my point of view it will innovate more in the ear future as well.

What you should know is that the cryptocurrency industry is a decentralized industry that can not be control by any body or institutions and that has make ismt a free market where any one can develop any project without any restrictions and that is the major problems we a facing in the cryptocurrency network today lots of ICO projects and most of them without any working projects

I think yes, but it seems difficult. as long as there are still projects that use ICO to raise funds. this will continue to exist, so the first thing to do is to support a new project to use STO if he wants to raise funds. STO is a good solution for now, with guaranteed funds that investors have, they will trust the new project more.

Though I am not a fan of ICOs, but we need ICOs to increase the crypto market popularity widely! But, I think STO could be better, without regulations, almost all new projects are coming to scam people's money. So, overall, ICO should be ended and we need regulations for the token sale! 85-90% projects were scam last year, so ICOs are not a good thing anymore, we need the real projects, so, only regulations can protect investor's money.

It is not about putting an end to them ICOs.
Yes I see there are a lot of them but the problems is us. The investors and supporters.
Why do we keep on supporting a failure. Yes we know which of them will fail with just looking at their whitepaper. Most of them are just copies of the past ICOs. Why stay and still support them if you know you are just wasting time.

If we can somehow enlighten newbie investors to be wise into picking then it wont go to this large amount of projects being created.

in my opinion ICO doesn't need to be closed in full, it's just that there must be a new policy about this, because of course we want a clean and regular blockchain environment. This policy can also minimize the spread of scam ico. Because there's still good potential for ICO to keep growing

ICO'S actually bring somethinf new infront of us which brings revolution and also the use and demand for cryptocurrencies rises up as the market cap goes up. This is good for cryptocurrencies but not good to compete with fiat. The circulation for Fiat currencies are been handled and managed by the government of the appropriate country but it is completely different with cryptocurrencies as there is no law and regulations for cryptocurrencies due to being fully anonymous and decentralised.
Increasing number of altcoins is not that bad for the markets as it also creates a lot of opportunity for trading, investing, mining, etc.

Nope, ICO should continue and must be regulated.
There are so many upcoming project which will change the world to a better one.
They need to be funded and share to all the people of the world. regulation is the one missing to get away those scammers.

If we really need a regulated ICO, then let's accept that ICOs should be abandoned and welcome STOs which are much more regulated than that of ICOs. ICOs are part of the long bear market we are experiencing at the moment. They stole most of the innocent man's money and they are now cashing out which is the effect we are seeing.

It's hard to end ICO because this is needed to fund the project/development to develop real usecase unless there's a unverified ICO's that's high risk of getting scammed. Make sure to check the team members if they do KYC verified, company address/country and also the founder who runs the project. What if the project is funded by the founders owned money and the project was failed, probably the founder will get big loss of investment.

To compete with fiat is certainly very easy because Crypto is very ready to replace the role of fiat but all must go through an introductory process for all aspects because currently there are still so many people who don't want to know crypto even to know their technology. do not want because crypto is running because of advanced technology, the introduction of technology must be put forward so that if crypto has started to be used as a currency, it is very ready for everyone to use it.

These worthless ICOs should be stopped because they are only ruining the market. We have thousands of altcoins already and I believe that only 15% of those really have a potential to compete with fiat currencies. They might be one of the fastest way to get your finds be multiplies in an instant to be converted to bitcoin but by the end of the day, they will end up an altcoins that should not be trusted.

ICO is a great way for a project to start up. The intention is good but bad elements use this to scam people. I think regulating ICO would be a better alternative to monitor and check the legitimacy of the project creating ICOs. This way investors can be sure that the project they are investing is legit.

Why do you compare the centralized fiat to the decentralized cryptocurrency, it has a huge difference since fiat was controlled by governments and the decentralized cryptocurrency was controlled by people its not all about competition cryptocurrency was created with the help of blockchain in one ultimate purpose to decentralized thats why it prospered because the people has supported it. so move on from bitterness lets accept the fact that the finance and monetary system has change a lot since it was invented.

Does cryptocurrency need recognition to be part of the financial world? I think not. All that the UN recognizes does not matter what it is. Because it is a manageable body. Influence, influence. They are not forced to stop this and are doing everything to destroy it. After all, cryptocurrency is a symbol of freedom. Free money exchange around the world.

ICOs should be regulated and this will put to an end the scams, the not so obvious scams and all the parasites that are feeding from the ecosystem.
This will be beneficial for everybody involved in a decent way.
ICOs as a fundraising mechanism is not bad and shouldn't be marked off as a whole.

I don't think ICO will end at all. The truth is that many investors are tired of the scam projects, but the market is changing rapidly. Regulations will have a significant effect on the ICO projects running and that provides a higher level of protection for investors and founders (especially AML/KYC procedure). Of course, the strict rules go against the blockchain principles. But for the moment I think, that it is a reasonable compromise.

If ICOs are put to an end there will be no way for projects to come to light because they all need funds to actualize their plans, although because of this same ICOs, the crypto space is now filled with so many scam tokens so if ICO should be put to an end, then another method to raise funds should be presented

Maybe no maybe yes, the industry needs a lot of platforms that the community can use, so we have an ICO for this, but if ICO will stop which I do not want to because I am still very active in the bounty hunting, maybe the current market will be much better because investors will just concentrate in existing coins.
investors focus now on existing projects that already developt their projects well.they consider investing in new project very risky for their money.and they prefer to quit from ico from a while.

Absolutely get rid of projects ICO most likely not needed.  The further development of the project depends on how the ICO proceeds and whether it will be able to develop until the release of the finished product.  A completely different question is how to deal with projects that are dishonest towards investors?

ICO literally means that they get the money (from investors) first, and then come up with a product.
At least in a start-up project, the product is already there.

In my opinion, ICO should be thoroughly filtered instead of simply putting it to and end.
There are good ICOs too

I don't want ICO to be shut down but i want it be more regulated, to prevent scammers and protect investors from being scammed. Blockchain startups need ICO to raise money for their company development. If ICO shut down, blockchain startups shut down too and there will be no more startups, no innovation, no development. It against the development of humanity.

Beautiful remark. I think ICOs should be heavily regulated with all government agencies all over the world. Can you imagine how much those scammers cash out funds they received from their "ICO" and it might one of the reasons market is crashing right now?

Honestly, ICO brings fantastic ideas that is changing our current technology.

We should find some option to reduce the number of ICOs that are currently ongoing and maybe to eliminate projects from Coinmarketcap that are dead, without any trading volume. We need to find a solution because the market is overwhelmed with such projects.

I don't think that the icos should be put to an end because regardless of the fact that there are a lot of good icos out there so if the icos are banned then the good ones would be affected too in the process. Now the icos are the most efficient way for the new projects to actually raise the kind of money that they would need for their projects to start doing better

I don't think it would end anytime soon for there are still ICOs projects that are still good source of income and are legit though there are vast increase in scam projects nowadays. Hopefully these incidents of scamming will be lessened so that better projects will be more prioritized.

I think there will be much more new ICOs, because the market is pretty young and I think the better comparison would be with the stock market, rather than with fiat money. There are much less currencies that are oriented only at the payment sector. Crypto space is much more than only currencies that are made for payments.

The main idea behind the cryptocurrency is to ensure decentralization of power in the system, thereby giving everyone an equal opportunity. Therefore, you are left to decide as person of you want to be a part of their project or not. I don't see any reason ICO  should be put to an end.

ICO can make crypto world better. But ICO must change. First of all it must be sums under 1-3 millions of dollars and they must become security, and better think about monetization and real usage of the project. This means investors must get part of profit they get, not just wait for the next speculative run. And I don't think that strict regulation can make ICO safer, we don't need it crypto, it can be like just if you want to change crypto to fiat pay 5% taxes and all will be great.

Regulation should be the term and not stopped, I know a lot of persons including me are particularly concerned about the proliferation and daily emergence of new ICO's and it appears each coming with a similar or already existing project. However I think the current bear market is a good checked to some that are intended to scam and make huge exit as with the bear market it is only mostly genuine projects with good intention could attempt as they will be tested to prove themselves by starting low and growing high overtime if truly a good project

ICO is a great financing structure, but some shameful people have changed the original rules of the game, and a large number of scams have persecuted the development of ICO. Perhaps the ICO that can be regulated is the way forward.

Nowadays crypto compliment fiat currencies and I don't think that they should compete. More crypto currencies on the market signify wider infrastructure for using alternative means of payment.

Reality check, no altcoins and even bitcoin can replace fiat easily. There's a lot of factors to consider and this will take more decades and we will never know if we're still alive.

The last thing we can hope for is SEC to regulate ICOs and by having their compliant, yes it's a free market but if this wouldn't be control everything will be a mess.

Crypto Currency is Decentralized system, everyone want to put their product on ICO, like what you've stated on your post, almost everyday we can see new product launch in the market, this the beauty of the open market, winner takes it all. Beside being an active market with growing numbers participating on the trading or on product launching would indicate that crypto currency market is something to look forward for an investment, its is the consumer's behavior of investment would dictate on what to become on such ICO product. if investor are attracted to such product, i am sure it can survived the pre launching then eventually listed as one stable coin in the market. i do not favor such notions of ending the crypto market.

ICOs , are not to be totally shut off , but if there are ways and means that this ICOs will be properly screen and evaluated before it will be launched , so that it will give good opportunity to the participants and the investors and can make some victims of fraud and scams.

if it was up to me, i would have put an end to all the ICOs. they are just too bad to exist and the damage they are doing to the whole cryptocurrency scene is huge. it is well known that majority of them are big scams out there to rob you. but  the rest of them are also pretty terrible to begin with because they aim to only make money from gullible people. there is company and no product. there is only fund raising to be rich.

Yeah, I think the more we project, the greater the competition among them, and the competition forces to create a more perfect product. And such a product will always find feedback from consumers. What's the most number of projects covering more and more areas of our lives that also expands the use of cryptocurrencies.

It is not good for the crypto industry. You should know that our crypto market thanks to the capital of new ICO projects can grow as strong as it is now. The investment of many investors from other countries will make our market grow stronger. That is why we need more ICO projects.

Certainly not. I agree that majority of ICOs are either outright scams or fail to deliver anything due to bad execution, team, idea etc. But there are some projects which came into existence due to ICO only. Biggest example in Binance. Most popular exchange right now. If it didn't got funds via ICO, then it would have probably never launched. So what we need is a regulation and responsibility in this sector.

Vitalik has discussed about an ICO model which can help achieve that. Basically it is like a tap of water. Here tap can be thought of as a fund whose control is in the hands of investors rather than the ICO team. So every time team completes a milestone and is ready for next, investors can let some fund flow to the team. If not, then they can simply withdraw their money. So things like these are needed. And of course investors also need to invest in projects which are not HYIPs, promising bizarre rate of returns etc. Stay away from them, research and then invest. That will automatically make scam ICOs disappear over the time.

Fiat is base on each country or region why cryptocurrency is a startup token which is set up by an individual or a group of people with different use case and aim to make cryptocurrency well know to the world as a form of payment for online transaction, so having many token or coin is not an issue but the issue is do they really here to solve real problem facing all sectors of industry and I think that should really be our concern as many are in this for quick money and run to hide their face .

this certainly will not be clear, because there are still so many people who have the desire to open the ICO, but on the other hand the ICO is currently utilized for fraudulent matters. if the ICO is not upgraded, I think that investors will also diminish little by little. well, ICO is not only about good projects, or good ideas, but also a professional and trustworthy team, and many more that need to be considered.

Did you forget to read about cryptocurrencies and their philosophies? Did you not know that the idea was to give the freedom and liberation to everyone to choose whatever they wanted, to do away with other people controlling your decisions? With censorship and people dictating what you do?

I hate 99% of ICOs,,, but I would never say they should be put to an end. People do what they want, and it is up to you to decide if you want to be part of it.

No I do not think ICO's should be abolished as per your original question. Why would you deny some fantastic future projects on the basis that are currently a lot? They are not all currency based some of them are simply companies with real products choosing an alternative way of raising funding.

For me I think developers need to remodel their ICO model, we have seen that creating new tokens for every new projects make no sense and as long as they understand this that something need to be done. If the 1 of every 10 projection of success to failure rate is anything to go about then it can be said only 200+ of this projects would made it to next stage

Well to be honest the infiltration of all these numerous alt coins have contributed to the reduction of the value of bitcoin but i don't think putting an end to ICOs can solve the problem because most of these ICOs have very useful cases that can really help mankind if their project is fully put into motion. I suggest we regulate these ICOs because some are just copying others and trying to make things look new when they don't. Sad

It's not the total coins. So many dead coins need to be delisted from CMC. The total coins that has been showing on CMC needs to be decreased because the dead coins can't be counted as crypto. It's dead and it will disappear in the future. I thought that you should put your concern on this case.

Why affected with some ICO? This is a good way to have invetsment in the crypto market cap. Maybe youre frustrated with the scam ICOs. But decentralized means cannot be controlled, if you want to stop ICOs and how people can know some potential projects for investment which dont have enough resource and help to develop. You just see its negative side but not the good part.

This is a free market, and no one can say if we needed to put an end to those ICO projects. I mean this is a legitimate ways to raise fund for a certain legit and trusted project, so I don't see anything wrong with that whatsoever. If you think that they have some bearing on bitcoin market though, I say no, they won't affect bitcoin any form.

Actually ICO is a good thing, it's just that now switching functions are used by certain groups to take unilateral benefits which ultimately makes everyone think that ICO is bad.
In my opinion the ICO rules must be changed or if it still remains like this does not rule out the possibility of many more fraudulent ICO SCAM projects.

The beautiful thing about literally ANYONE can raise money through an ICO is that it truly is a free market. However, in a free market many people suck at making financial decisions. Some don't do enough research, some fall for wild claims of guaranteed profit, and some just get greedy and put too much in. Doesn't mean the rules need to change, because technically there are no rules. People just need to be more cautious.
