wtf are people running/doing to get bitcoin installed on their computers w/o their knowledge anyway?  is it mostly javascript?

For example: Botmasters install the bitcoind mining service on thousands of zombie computers...

Anti-malware software does not make you safer at all. It gives false sense of security and gives false alarms. Not to mention adding additional attack surface area to your system. The security is in proper procedures of computer usage and the skills of computer owner.
agreed pretty much

i run a malwarebytes scan once a month or so, that's it...  no memory resident crap.

the only hits i've gotten on it in the last few years were for barelyclocked (false positive), phoenix rising (false positive), and the new bitcoind/bitcoin-qt that is flagged as a trojan or some such now.  wtf are people running/doing to get bitcoin installed on their computers w/o their knowledge anyway?  is it mostly javascript?

i think you are fine then, it looks like you run a normal bitcoin client and keep your wallet local. it's trying to connect to other bitcoin nodes so it can get transaction and block updates, malware bytes will block unsolicited outgoing calls to IP spaces in china and other places because they are notorious for malware.

thanks for the tip, here is what I got, this is where I installed the software

            Directory of C:\bitcoin-0.8.3-win32\daemon

Also, taskmanager does not show anything suspicious running.

if you are not mining with this PC, it's possible that someone else is.

do a dir /s bitcoind.exe to find where that process is.
