well, I wouldn't say that - all of them are volatile when news come

This is the year of the bull run, though it might not look like it from the start but I can assure you that that's what it's going to turn out to be because I have studied the market and I don't see any chance of us experiencing a down trend in the price of bitcoin but rather an uptrend, though the market will remain bearish for up to 9 months in the year before we begin to see the bull run.
Hoping to be that way mate cause until now I've never see such huge climbing trend that could build a foundation for possible bull run. Though it is too early to predict that as we are still in the first quarter but I believe it also, only for me not to expect that huge variation same thing it happen last 2017 cause isn't possible to have at this time.
Yes the market has a different trend in each quarter or every year, even though it is a wave because it up and down but it is indeed a trend that is happening at least with prices that tend to be stable because it only goes up and down at a certain point we see so far. By having a different increase point in each quarter, the market will be more likely to continue to increase in the next quarter slowly.

At the moment I believe that the bearish trend has ended or we are almost starting a bullish trend thought which may take a little time period from now till the market move higher above $5000. In summary, the current market situation should be referred to as a trend and not wave or something else as you rightly mentioned above.

for this year there seems to be a pretty good wave for the market, because from now on the market has started to have a good increase even though it is still slow but I am sure that until the end of the year the market will definitely rise again
Good wave starting from these days as increasing market is approaching. The increase on price is noticeable compared to its price month's before and is recommendable for investors to go ride the low wave right now as it is expected to be big before the year ends.
Call it anything but the market is on the rise. Bitcoin and ETH have been bit stable and rising slowly so set up your own trend of making use of the opportunities in the market. If you do not do that, you miss out the opportunity to make money. This is common sense. I think call it wave or the initial phase of recovery but if you do not make use of the opportunities now, it is of no use doing analysis about the market.

All the trend should have started as a wave and only over the course of time, it will develop and grow as an easily identifiable trend. So, the current market situation will not be an exception and we are in sideways markets which is always known for not giving out any right signal but will confuse even the experienced and professional traders.

Trends and waves are pretty similar when we use it in the market though. A trend changes like the ups and downs of waves meaning that anything that's happening now canake a sudden chamge of direction without any reason. Imagjne the steady trend btc had for november last year. We all thought the next movement will be up but we plunged roughly another 50 percent.

So basically last year was full of great ups and downs, but this years bitcoin doesn’t have that amazing news or the great interest from the people who doesn’t invest or doesn’t own, like last year my father came and asked me about btc (when it went higher than 10k$) but now it is just back to the normal state which is only interest from the holders.
So let me re ask my questions: Do you think it was just a trend? Or it is a wave that has ups and downs, and will come back again?
Or do you think it is just something normal to happen since people believed it is just a trend?
You can call it a wave or what ever you like, just take a look at all the markets that deal with finance and i am sure you will not see any market that is booming all the time in the upward direction, every market will have a cool off period after every rally and it will continue like that in the future too, so never expect any market to up all the time. For something to be called a trend it should be in continuous mode for a while and or repeat in the same or very similar way. So current movements in the market I wouldn't call a trend. It's temporary positive correction that pulled back again and it's yet to see how the further situation will develope.

Add in the duration . you cant call trend a trend without a duration but  i dont agree when you disagree that what we experience right now is not a trend  .  for me this can be considered a trend (  bullish trend to be exact )  because the value succesfully reach 4k usd and it did stay on that level for a longer time  . the temporary positive correction that you are talking about is already over  . the correction was last time when the value drop and stayed at 3k usd  .
When it reach it's peak, it is trend. I agree with some people in here. Because it is not pumped and dumped in a short time. We have time when it get stable and keep increased and not only like pump and dump scheme.
This is right because if we accept it as pump dump game, it wouldn’t be beneficial for us and for bitcoin as well. We need to promote good picture of this marvelous coin.

For the long time, bitcoin is down but it really doesn’t mean this is useless. Or when it will pump so people start thinking it wouldn’t get stable and get down again. Bitcoin has some schemas and mechanisms related to supply and demand in market, and it behaves accordingly.

from 19000 dollars to 4000 dollars btc crossed more than a big wave of a downfall but now the market is recovering soon we may expect the prices to get the pump with all the news awaited to enter the crypto market
each user of cryptocurrency can assume something at their discretion or desire, but you need to really look at the situation and really evaluate all the chances of the cryptocurrency market. In my opinion, now there is no need to give any impulse, because there are no prerequisites for this. First of all, it is necessary to take into account the fact that, compared with 2017, the capitalization of the cryptocurrency market has declined very much and in order to expect a recovery, we need very large investments in cryptocurrency.

What do you mean by normal state? Bitcoin is very unstable so I don't understand what normal state is.
How can you call current state of the market unstable? It was never more stable then today.
For some time I was thinking that this is actually very good, lots of positive aspects of such stagnation.
As to topic in question, why not both? Trends that fallow the wave patterns, sort of like wave–particle duality in physics.

Maybe today the supply is not that good, but either way we are expecting a big increase in 2020 specially when bitcoin halving occurs.
You meant that the demand is not so great, the worst supply gets the more scarce something becomes and as a result more expensive. Obviously under one condition, that there is demand for it.

Of course it will come back to $10k or even more. I wouldn't say it's a trend either. Trend just simply die, while bitcoin is really based on supply and demand. Maybe today the supply is not that good, but either way we are expecting a big increase in 2020 specially when bitcoin halving occurs.

It's different. The waves are just the consequences of trends.
The market won't come back to "a normal state" because there is nothing such as normal. If you think the normal price should be $10k it's ok, but why shouldn't it be $5 as well?. There is no standard

Now, back to the question if we're going to see again BTC/$10k then nobody here knows, we're just speculating, or gambling if you prefer.

Actually you are free to say it's a trend or wave, fluctuations can bring long trends and high waves, for now bad trends are still happening,
but it looks like high waves will come with more and more users starting to believe and positive news coming

I think it can be both, though I prefer the normal term - Trend.

If you observe the market you will notice that Bitcoin still trends or move in wave form despite the bear market.  Though the movement is concentrated around $3200—$4500 you can still profit from it.
The most important thing is to buy when it moves downward and sell when it moves upward.

For every knowledgeable crypto traders, fluctuations is the best way to earned, knowing when to ride and buy the news will give them big opportunities,
traders who already used to this market behaviors already learned things in a tough way, understanding how they should act when trend is moving always
allow them to make some profits.

The level of volatility is really entirely different with forex and stocks which as you said this do gives out more opportunities on making money out of those big swings on prices but
on exchange the risk is pretty high compared to traditional markets but still this is the main thing why most people do put up interest with crypto.

these people you are talking about regarding showing "interest",... are only a very small part of the market and they usually are referred to as newbies or weak hands or both. they don't matter because they are too small and ineffective. so they shouldn't be used as any indication either.

this is how bitcoin has always worked in the past 10 years. it is always on a constant rise despite what the price charts may look like because it is constantly growing and being adopted. but sometimes this growth happens faster so we see spikes and these spikes need correction and that leads to a slow market with temporary downtrend before bitcoin goes back to its normal rising mode.

In forex we called the three face of price movement cycles as upwards trend,  downwards trend and sideways trend and that can also be referred to as waves.  I think we are not going to have automatic price movement that obey technical indicators but time to time thing happened that do set the pattern a side.
We are in bad trend and not even showing pumps since from the start of this year. Many were questioning us about its trend, it is not a normal trend anymore. Any indication for the bull runs still missing and it really don't have. This fluctuations aren't similar to what happen in previous years thus we can't draw a chart for it for what could be possible to happen in the next few days and soon.
that's what im saying was the price a trend or it is just getting back? it's been a long time, and may the bitcoin do it as usual and hit another peak ?

Back to normal state? What is the normal state of bitcoin?

We focused a lot on that 20k price that happened with bitcoin we forgot how high it is still by now in just how many years?

It is even highly appreciated than gold right?
The demand went soaring at that moment and that could always happen anytime. Who knows? Another pump could lead to staying there for a larger price.

I think the incident we experienced during the last ascension is an upward trend because the waves of ascension cannot react so hard. Also, I think that the rise in the bull that we have experienced during the past bull was completely inflated because thousands of uninformed and inexperienced investors were trading in the market. Some economists I followed said that the price had risen very fast, which had a bad effect on market authority.

it is a trend mate  because the value of bitcoin had no possibility to reach those previous records and the most ATH value if it's just a wave.. Which is it will fluctuate alway due to the volatility of market that always happens time on time.   .
Hopefully you are wrong, I believe that someday we will be able to reach that ATH again but this time it would be due to the stable price increase.
The previous ATH was just reached because of FOMO in the market and we know the result is bad since until now, we are still experiencing the correction.

Volatility is The bitcoin's nature, and I have no clue to believe that bitcoin will be stable on a fixed price. Whales can manipulate the bitcoin's price anytime, so we have seen a high jump in the crypto market and we have passed a continuous fall down which is still ongoing! In the future, the crypto coins price will be high again, So, I would call it is a trend and this trend/volatility never will stop!

It's called cycle. Right now we're obviously we're in the bearish one. 2018 was the start of this cycle, so there's a lot of ups and downs and then we stabilizes around the $6k-$6.5K levels however, it dramatically fall because of all the BCH drama. If we're going to look at it's past history, bitcoin works that's way, bullish/bearish cycles.

Cycle  is activity of all the marken from buttom to top then buttom again it can be a year or more. Like if you look at cycle of bitcoin start from 3k to 20k and back to the level of 3k.
Cycle contain in its trend and wave.

Wave or trend is depend in what are you descriping. But trand contain in it waves.
N M W look at chart you will know
Fot example upper trend has so many waves.

It is definitely a wave. Trends are usually out trended when their time goes by, people usually use trend word for clothes so by comparison for example a jean that had baggy ends were trends for a while but now they are all gone. Bitcoin will never be fully gone, its always here and it still has more users than ever reading about it every single day.

Even people who came in during the peak and left still take a look at it once in a while. That is why I think bitcoin will be just a wave, sometimes it goes up and sometimes it goes down and in the end no matter what happens the sea levels increase just like in real life. The water is getting bigger and bigger in volume because there are more and more pouring in every single day. Hence, it is just wave and we are on the down turn for now but the big tides will come one day for sure.
Why are you limited to last year, look further in the past and you will see that something big started 10 years ago and still lasting. It`s growing every year, even in terms of price, cause except that peak 2 years ago price has grown a lot since I`m here. In every way we are bigger than before and that trend will last a lot more. You can call it a wave to, and it`s getting bigger and bigger. Just compare prices and market cap from 2013 and now, you will see where we are in just 6 years. In next 6 years we can expect some big miracles to happen with cryptocurrencies.

/discuss

We often call it the dot-com bubble. and crypto is the bubble in 2017 and it was suddenly exploded in 2018. that happened too fast and it was recorded in history. a market has lost over $ 1,000 billion in just 1 year.
It was really a big shock for everyone. No one would have expected our market to progress to this step.
But this will be a great opportunity for new investors who want to enter the market. there is less risk because it will not go down much more.

When bull market price of Bitcoin and others crypto will going up multiple times even more than 10 times just a few month,  but when bear market the price can be drop to more than 90% . So the good times to buy is when the price already dumped to 90% and hold it for long term until the price going up to more than 10 times.  With low capitalization and mass adoption,   crypto market will have more probability to increase later.
Lot of people only realizes this after happened so there is no point on convincing them again and again, just be selfish and take all the profits for yourself,if you are good means you will be looking like a scammer this this world.

I believe it can come back again, but it is going yo need a long of time, 2017 when bitcoin hit the peak, the hype was too high, so once bitcoin hit the major correction the price fall down really deep, for the one that doesn't really understand about bitcoin then they will say that bitcoin is dead and can't recover again, but for the early adopter we already see how great is the bitcoin growing from one year to another year

The is the longest bear market that I've experienced so far after that short amount of time during the bull run.
It may look short to you, but prior to the mania that started in 2017, we had around two years worth of gradual increases. It wouldn't surprise me if we see a similar trend, but then to the downside.

If we're still dealing with the same repetitive cycles, then we should bottom out this year (if we haven't bottomed out already). Looking at the charts and the general sentiment, it's not really a surprise that most people are bearish.

If the mass at this point is still functioning as counter indicator, we should be up for a bounce up this or next month, but there are just as many reasons to expect the price to fall down even more. It's a 50/50 shot in my opinion.

If me when price is on peak, it is only hype because of a trend. And then when all regulation come, or maybe other bad news come with bitcoin, people get hyped too that is why a lot of people start to sell their assets that can make bitcoin price keep down like now.

Just call it a reversal since last ATH was too much already then this is the opposite of that ATH, the biggest plummet and the most longest bearish market in the history of cryptocurrency. And people are starting to panic and seems like to lose interest too.

The is the longest bear market that I've experienced so far after that short amount of time during the bull run.

This is not a trend or a wave, this can be said as a rotation of the cryptocurrency price movement, while for trends it seems that prices tend to fall, this is the circulation of cryptocurrrency prices that sometimes go up and down without your predictions.

It's just a matter of semantics. As long as you get that there's a cycle or repeated price action in a defined time range, it's good. OP should definitely see the price history of Bitcoin to understand better what is happening with the market right now. At this moment there's an ongoing debate whether we've entered the bottom or there will be another dump before we can see a new uptrend. It's quite hard to predict correctly so manage your funds carefully.
That's true, and based on history of bitcoin from last bull run we've also undergone more dumps prior getting a higher profitable market rise last 2017. Probably that days we're at half quarter of 2017, and as months heading towards December the price started to spike more attempts to increase. Gladly, by November the market started to have more demand which rapidly created a huge growth of btc price as well as more trading sites were actively pumping. To give a full impression with latest market, I think that's a wave and that will soon becomes a trend worldwide.

People have different view of what is currently happening in crypto market.

Just always remember that a certain price trend, price situation, price behaviour, price movement or whatever it is are bound to end soon. We are now in a long period of dealing in the dominance of bear and to that long duration, we should now be used to this and consider the current market situation as normal.

More importantly, people should now realized what things they have to do after some difficulties to cope up with the situation. It's fine to have lots of questions why the market still not showing any signs of bullish activity but not to the point that this will be the thing we should keep in our mind for long time.

2018 was not a year of ups and downs, it was mainly one of downs. 2017 witnessed the highest spike in the value of bitcoin and the market cap of the entire cryptocurrency market. Last year saw the market drop steadily to it's current low value.
The market changes often and is very difficult to predict. Stability greatly increased last year, this could indicate growing adoption to support future price growth.

If Bitcoin's increasing price up to 20k have been appropriate for its time, it would have stayed at that price. I think it was just a moment of happiness and it was over. I believe that the real time for that price will be when we will ready for it. Today there are 100 millions of people who don't have any knowledge about digital money, and there must be more adoption.

If we take time to understand this really explained things which is ongoing right now, the cycle that we are analyzing we are hoping that
we will be able to catch up with the market next possible directions, we are looking for hint when the next cycle will begin so we can have
our early calls placing our target entry price.
Right, this really says what this ecosystem is all about, bear/bulls cycles. The last bull cycle is 2015-2017 so obviously, we are just waiting for the market to reset again and go to a bull cycle. There's no way that the bearish trend will last forever, just a matter of time before the bulls finally takes over again and a new trend emerges.

Okay I really support your point but regards that cycle and that the bearish trend will last forever but could it take another 3 years in order to fix and adjust its direction and reach another peak ?

Bullish and bearish always changed in crypto market because crypto has low market cap and still young market. Since Bitcoin tradeable the price was going up 10times more and also was going down to 90% but after that the price will going up to the new level high.

I don't know, how long will the price decline continue? Because since December 2018, I see the decline in people's appeal to cryptocurrencies seems to continue to decline and continue to this day, even though the price of bitcoin often persists in the range of $ 3500 to $ 3600, but the weakening of bitcoin prices still occurs, even penetrating $ 3400.
Well, even though this's happening now, "in the future" I think cryptocurrency will grow better. So, it would be nice, from now on we leave behind negative assumptions/thoughts which I think are very sensitive especially for holders.

Waves are the shape of a trend, what you mean is probably a flat or sideways market condition. Looking at the bitcoin chart pattern in the past I think this is reasonable, because it will form a positive trend.
We know that several months ago until now there has been a downtrend. Maybe mid-2019 will see the formation of up trend.

what you need to understand is the fluctuating nature of the market, price fluctuations often occur in trade, if the market is flat, a large movement will usually occur, just hope that prices will rise again.
