Take https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/emezh10-836341 emezh10.
It is so clear to see. So easy to find.
Of course, emezh10 has other accounts doing exactly the same thing, I can see them!

Thanks for the report. This one is obvious and will be dealt with swiftly.

You did not ask for further information about the other obvious accounts that I mentioned emezh10 is spamming from, just as obviously, but untroubled by mods?
What further information? Isn't everything in your thread?

No not everything is in my thread. emezh10 is not in my thread, yet.
But I can see his other accounts. let me know if you want to know about them.

feel free to bring something to my thread. No spamming Grin

Join the world-leading crypto sportsbook NOW!
I have shown time and again how they spam, not noticed anything happen, no one has communicated with me. That is the first I have heard that my list is of any interest to any admin/global mod, after 5 weeks.
I've had no help. No communication. No encouragement. Nothing.
Well, it is a very extensive list. Even if some of the senior staff members only decide to ban individuals, they'd still have go through the post history of each of those. Now, when you factor in investigating for potential alt accounts on each, it ends up taking even longer.

I acknowledged it below and have mentioned that thread to Cyrus two or three times when I've messaged him about other spammers but he's probably ridiculously busy and it's going to take hours to look into and investigate fully but I'm sure he'll get around to it.

Cantoner was banned but clearly not all his other related accounts were. (see the list he is on here)
In fact, it could only be a tiny percentage that were banned, as nearly all I have listed (and connected) are still active.
(or was there just lots of zero post accounts banned as mentioned in bbc.spammer thread?)

I wondered, "Was there mass banning of accounts related to Knowhow? (was that based on random individual member reports, or more thorough like here)"
Was it just 1 or 2 accounts involved/banned?

BadBear will have likely only found the ones from the IP(s) connected directly to KnowHow. I've asked Cyrus to look into it further.

Probably 1 or 2 (certainly very few) people/groups own many hundreds of farmed accounts.
That's a possibility that I will not deny.

You are welcome to the report above. It is obvious. Had you seen it already?
I did report it as soon as I've read your post. No, I'm actually how I missed them in the Speculation section.

Any chance of banned accounts being marked so all can see?  Smiley
I'm not sure about that; you'd have to suggest it to theymos.

We are side-tracking from OP here, although what we are talking about has relevance. Maybe we should cross back into your thread?

Thing is, there is little point closing/moving threads, but allowing farmed accounts. They gotta post somewhere.
Nobody is allowing farmed accounts that are used for spam. Your list is being looked into among.

Locking threads in the beginner and help is ok, but these accounts are still lurking.
As I've already told you this before, the moderation *hierarchy* doesn't give us a lot of options (unless one is global moderator, or admin).

Thanks for the report. This one is obvious and will be dealt with swiftly.

Every farmed account I have listed is spamming or acting to gain community confidence to scam or sell.
I have shown time and again how they spam, not noticed anything happen, no one has communicated with me.
That is the first I have heard that my list is of any interest to any admin/global mod, after 5 weeks.
I've had no help. No communication. No encouragement. Nothing.
These farmed accounts are totally different to someone owning 2 or 3 accounts.
Probably 1 or 2 (certainly very few) people/groups own many hundreds of farmed accounts.

Ok, I understand you do not have the authority to act here. I've not seen any interest from anyone who could do something.

I'd quite like the feeling of logging on after a few days and seeing I've got 100 new messages.
I'd hate to see 100 messages of the same type cluttering up my box.

So it would be great if other users could take a proactive part and think "that threads too full, lets just tell them and see if they do anything" before they clog the moderator's inboxs (moderators won't delete or lock it anyway as it is not techincally against any rules of the forum).
Not that many users are rational people, and a fair number are involved in the spam so I doubt that this would work. Those that are aware of it and want to fight it in a way, already do (e.g. I don't open non self-moderated threads anymore).

Thing is, there is little point closing/moving threads, but allowing farmed accounts. They gotta post somewhere.

Take https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/emezh10-836341 emezh10.
If you look in beginner and help now, emezh10 is the most recent poster in 5 6 threads in a row. You can see that took him 6 minutes.

Look at his post history, bingo. Spam. Farmed account.
Those 5 posts in beginner and help were only part of 10 posts today. all in beginner and help. All 10 posts took 8 minute.
To call them 1 line spam is being generous. They are only half a line.

It is so clear to see. So easy to find.

Maybe we should have some spam fighters? Like, fight fire with fire? So whoever created the topic we just have 100 people send them 5-10PMs a day saying "lock your useless thread *link* or the spam to your inbox will continue.

Bad idea. It would be easier for moderators to lock threads, rather than force people to lock them.
In any case, I don't think PMs would bother anybody. Especially if you don't expect serious messages here.

I'd quite like the feeling of logging on after a few days and seeing I've got 100 new messages.

I noticed my thread on your list and in fairness it could probably do with locking and deleting?
Well, if you got *some* useful information out of it, you can always just move and/or lock it.

Also, Lauda or anyone on this forum, if you find another thread of mine that appears to be useless in its position or is filled with spam, I'm happy to take a PM and move it to a more appropriate location (or to lock and move it to archive).
Thank you for being willing to participate in this (I can't say the same for some members).

There is only a certain amount that moderators can track (and browsing 60/67 pages of useless information is not recommended for them). So it would be great if other users could take a proactive part and think "that threads too full, lets just tell them and see if they do anything" before they clog the moderator's inboxs (moderators won't delete or lock it anyway as it is not techincally against any rules of the forum).

I have so far recieved a few recommendations while I've been here (including this one) and have tried to solve these issues so that everyone can enjoy this forum and find the information they need. I have moved that thread to off topic and if it continues to be spammed I will lock it and move it to archive.

Correct. The best that an user can do is to send out PMs to the topic creators and ask them nicely to lock them to prevent more spam. Unfortunately, from my own experience this isn't always successful.

So obviously if we keep doing what we've always done we'll always get the same results. Isn't that the definition of insanity?!
No, because what we're mentioning here is not being done or is rarely done.

Fighting spam by producing PM spam is actually a very horrible way of trying to accomplish this. Some of those users also may not want to lock their threads for the obvious reasons (they are either spamming themselves or facilitating spam).

OK umm... public hangings? As one of the 'little people' on this forum I feel like we have absolutely no say/control when it's pretty clear most people that are here for legitimate reasons feel that these threads should be abolished. Why are there so few mods that can do anything??

I don't think so. Those topics are discussing Bitcoin, so they have their place here. It has now the same function as the new "Gambling discussion" section.
No, they are not discussing Bitcoin dircetly. They are discussing useless general stuff that isn't Bitcoin specific (and/or personal experiences), which could also be answered properly within the first page. Such posts are extremely useless in most cases and just end up wasting your time reading through them. They should be moved into Off-Topic at least, or optimally locked and forbidden.

The biggest improvement that i can imagine would be an effective way to remove a thread from my "new replies" area.  I have done everything to some and they just keep coming.  I removed them from my watch list, made sure that the "unwatch" option is picked and they keep coming back..... Like that "what would you do with 10BTC" one just mentioned and I love the one about "what would you do if BTC hit $200".....

really? it has been over $200 for more than a year, why does the thread still get replies and why is it not locked and better yet, why do I keep seeing it!!! Lol, but I digress, it is the forum software and I have suffered from the issue in other forums, including some I have hosted and some I have modded for

I've noticed that if a new topic like this comes up from a newbie it gets neuked almost instantly but the good old crappy 'what would you do if I gave you 10btc' and useless shit is still plastered all over. Let's see what we have on the front page today shall we...
Well, not exactly 'nuked', but usually they get marked as insubstantial and trashed/deleted on sight.

"Who uses bitcoin?" everyone on this forum.. NEXT
"What are you doing with bitcoin" Exactly what I'm doing with fiat... NEXT!
-snip-
Yes, these threads can usually be filled with generic answers and as such become worthless after a fair amount of replies. Afterwards they just get filled with rehashed replies.

Is it only Theymos, Cyrus or Hilariousandco that can do anything about it?
As far as that particular section is concerned, yes.

"How bitcoin is popular in your country" I don't know that it is but i'd love to see the explanation.. oh... just shitty English. NEXT!
"Why do you have bitcoin?" - same as what I'm doing with bitcoin. Same as fiat. NEXT
"2017 year of the bitcoin" predictions should be in speculation shouldn't they? NEXT!
"Will you accept Bitcoin as your salary?" Sure. NEXT!
"Any safe way to grow my bitcoins?" ya. Earn more and HODL. NEXT!
"Easiest way to earn bitcoin" shitpost on that thread for BTC NEXT!
"Pros and cons of using new bitcoin addresses for each transaction" the most legitimate thread I've seen yet. It'll be full of shitposts soon enough though.

Well that's as far as I'm going to go. Enough time has been wasted on reporting these threads. Is it only Theymos, Cyrus or Hilariousandco that can do anything about it?

Soon to come are the much anticipated:

"What would you do with FOUR Bitcoins???"
"Have you talked about bitcoins with your pet?"
"Why doesn't your Grandma own Bitcoins?"
"Satoshi is my uncle's friends' dog's brother's cousin"
"Are you selling bitcoins? Why?"
"Is Bitcoin are be good or is it am are it there am is bad?" (voted most likely to be spammed by illiterate sig spammers)

Can we please keep Bitcoin Discussion to Discussions only? Things that aren't "What you would do with 1 BTC", these posts aren't productive.
They should, as 99.9% of the posts within those threads are useless garbage. I have already complained about this, and there has been little action from the global moderators and/or admins so far.

Threads that should be either locked/moved/trashed:
Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities - 1401 Posts
Will you accept bitcoin as your salary? - 1711

Have you ever lost Bitcoin? - 1106

This is a total of 26 900+ posts on the first page (at the time of pulling data), and I've probably missed some threads as well.

Just wait until people that are either directly spamming there, or part of the farming industry to pop up here in an attempt to defend this pile of garbage.

Update: Corrected a statement.

It was supposed to be a way to find useful information, but instead became a scam megathread that was out of control (and I didn't know what to do with it).
Most of the topics theere are probable meant for the same way, maybe threads should be automatically be locked after 10/20 pages have been gone through.

Yes. I go to the gambling discussion thread sometimes and most of the threads there are "Is gambling a sin?", "I lost my wife because of gambling" and many many more of the same useless topics. It is not a prediction thread or a tipster thread or an event thread so why is it considered and left alone in Gambling? It belongs to Off Topic in my opinion.

Well, it's good to see that at least some action has been done to prevent the spam from spreading. I see a few grammatical errors like you referring to yourself in 3rd person but I guess it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A good idea I think would work even better is just a section for beginners that's above the normal beginners+help that's got posts moved into there directly from the normal b+h to actually help beginners. Just my two cents, I'm just overall glad to see action being done against this issue.

I didn't exactly say "nothing" has been done. My initial sentence was wrongful, as a decent amount of threads were handled by Cyrus during the time in which they were a global moderator (I had forgotten about it). However, generally I'm unsatisfied with the situation regarding the low quality posts that we've seen in 2016.

The beginners and help sub-forum. What a hell hole. Good luck finding useful beginner info there
We have been activelly planing a way to 'combat' the problem since that section is very important. Today we have started executing our plan. You can read about it in this thread. The idea was Mitchell's.

this may be good time to give some users maybe permissions to delete tread or useless post

we all agree that there is lot of spam but this can be reduced with maybe report directly to some moderators

i found that it was reported and banned users with my sig camp with spamming (here is tread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitmixer-spammers-1378965) but seem to be dead for months maybe we could create something similar and report directly to moderators

We have other announcement places.
I've seen that bitcoin discussion section is really full of spam, but there's too much spam for justone moderator to clear (as there's only one moderator assigned to that section)!
The only ways to stop spamming is to be more strict with signatue campaigns, ansin order to do that, you risk losing members of the forum or the valued donators here.

A month ago I reported his. They are all still spamming away. Untroubled by mods or admin.
You said how obvious it all was. The mods/admin could at least communicate about this. Zilch. Nothing. No action.
Banning a account and moving a thread are two different things.Certainly, both actions lead to the well maintained forum but can you imagine how ambiguous it is to go through the post history of all the mentioned accounts and ban them one by one ? I'm not taking sides but the harsh truth is ..it's not upto you or me to ban the accounts. We do our part by reporting them to the Global Mods, rest is their call.

I have found, then been through all 300+ accounts listed as farmed, where is the problem?
And i have also shown many "patterns" to this farming. Detailed checking is not so needed.
Anyway, I managed it. It is FAR easier for theymos, admin and mods to investigate. They have the access required.
(300+ accounts listed by me, all 100% accurate - hence no complaints/protests)

Your exactly right it is not up to me to ban accounts.
But, as I have shown these farmed accounts to be the lowest of quality spammers, and there being no possibility of these farmed accounts EVER being anything other than damaging to real members using the forum, I just want those few real members, and any onlookers, to know who they are mingling with here.

Unlike you, I see the lack of admin/mod action/interest here as reason to protest.
They pretend there are a set of "rules" here. Either action needs to be taken, or the pretend set of rules need to be abolished.

It's just that there's not enough support for this to happen, and like Lauda said in the first few posts, those trash posters will just rise up again and start defending themselves to save their little jobs that they have. I've seen shitposting everywhere, from reddit to bitcointalk, and if anything even reddit has better managing with each section having its own rules and being able to block shitposters. I'd definitely like to see this change happen, but I just don't think it'll happen. If at least we had someone who just read reports and dealt with the issue accordingly we could actually get something done, like a little button at the top just for reporting those people. I wonder how many people are actually legit on this forum... I'm guessing the percentage is lower than 50, what with all of this pointless discussion and farming we have.

Really disappointed by the lack of attention this topic got.
It seems that users that search for real content on the forum aren't here anymore.
You're preaching to the choir. I don't even know why I still bother to come here. Sad

Know the feeling. Haven't really read any topic in General for months.

I don't think you need to make a big deal out of it.If I come across a topic that is not constructive on Bitcoin Discussion,I report it and it is always taken care of.

Ok sure. That is why you only need look right now, or at any other time, and it is all still going on?

*** bbc. reporter list.
Nice catch! You could clearly see by the way most of them have posted in either alt coin sections or single like auction thread comments!Maybe you should personally send the list to Cyrus or Hilariousandco, they are most likely to ban these accounts. It doesn't end here, seems like this guy is a pro in accounts trading,he is buying more accounts while trying to farm the account he is buying from! 99.9% of the posts within those threads are useless garbage. I have already complained about this, and there has been little action from the global moderators and/or admins so far.

Report them.  I'm sure they'll get dealt with.

But as Lauda said, it has been reported and nothing gets done.

Really disappointed by the lack of attention this topic got.
It seems that users that search for real content on the forum aren't here anymore.
You're preaching to the choir. I don't even know why I still bother to come here. Sad

At least you got a 40% admin/mod (opposing) reply rate!

I have the same problem on my thread. No real users left here, hardly, to care. Very little interest from anyone. (are you interested in my thread?)
Until these spam for btc farmed accounts are banned, I cannot see a way forward. They are only here to max spam/min effort/max earn.
Those users looking for real content have clearly been driven away.

I have identified over 300 farmed accounts, creating mostly 1 or 2 line spam, probably owned by 1 person/group and being well paid.
Accounts farmed In full sight of theymos, untroubled by mods, employed by sig campaigns.
(some are/were now even managing campaigns)

I've had almost no interest/discussion from admin or mods or campaign managers.
(nor, strangely, from many hero/legendary scam hunter/intellectual/trusted members)
I'm beginning to suspect these farmed accounts are owned either by admin, managers or mods. Or all three. (though I have no proof/not looked)

I stumbled into doing what I would have thought as the admin/mod/manager jobs. They already knew of course. (or are incompetent)

Mabye report users that makes crap threads would help?
Looked over the 2 first pages a few minutes ago and one user had created 5 threads and all were useless spam threads

All in full sight of the mods. Should not need reporting. But maybe it has been reported and no action, we do not know.
(well, we do, as lauda said above, no action)
I have posted about recent spam attacks by farmed accounts, posting 5 times in 2 minutes, again and again. No action taken
Even today the same account, 5 posts in 3 minutes, yesterday 5 posts 4 minutes. (then on to the next account and the next account...)
https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/greatr-552970

Admin and mods take no action. They appear to be supporting this shitposting.

my previous posts specifically about this shitposting for reference

Report them.  I'm sure they'll get dealt with.

One could only hope if that were true. These posts come up every week and I haven't seen one getting deleted.
They only get locked if it gets too much posts and ends up alive for far too long.

Really disappointed by the lack of attention this topic got.

I consider the mentioned threads as off-topic, and it would be appreciated if they were moved to that section.
Unfortunately 'Bitcoin Discussion' is overflowing with this kind of content right now.

Report them.  I'm sure they'll get dealt with.
I've compiled a report in my previous post in this thread. Let's see how long it takes until somebody handles at least some of those, or if at all.

I agree too, there are zero content in those threads. And there are certainly no meaningful discussion about bitcoin. I consider the mentioned threads as off-topic, and it would be appreciated if they were moved to that section.

They should, as 99.9% of the posts within those threads are useless garbage. I have already complained about this, and there has been little action from the global moderators and/or admins so far.

This is a total of 26 900+ posts on the first page (at the time of pulling data), and I've probably missed some threads as well.

Just wait until people that are either directly spamming there, or part of the farming industry to pop up here in an attempt to defend this pile of garbage.

Update: Corrected a statement.

You all know what topics I'm talking about. Bitcoin Discussion became the new Gambling section.
It's full of shitposts, with a lot of guys just spamming hard without reading what other people already answered to the thread.

I gave up on cleaning the forum from sig spams, but I want to make Bitcoin Forum great again! this to be a bit of what it were back in the day I joined this forum.
"Hur dur u have an ad sig too". Yeah, good point, but check my post history and you'll see that I barely post, mostly on my localized section that doesn't even pay me a penny.

Can we please keep Bitcoin Discussion to Discussions only? Things that aren't "What you would do with 1 BTC", these posts aren't productive.
I feel that even reddit is a bit cleaner than here because at least it has less shitposts.

Moderation and theymos, please I beg to make this forum useful and not a trash talk for easy money place.
