Maybe adding on top of this, we could have a "notifications" section, where it will notify you for new PMS, quotes and trust reps. Just like on forum.bitcoin.com.
It would be useful thing for mostly us. But I think it would be hard or even impossible to implement it to SMF. But maybe it would be possible to implement it to new forum software, which now is under beta.
This option is very good for the daily followers of their post who dont want each time to check the thread for new post and if it is updated in the current forum then will be superb idea.
As of now, you're able to simply go into the Search page of the forum and type in your name -- I personally take a frame of 7 days, and sort by most recent posts. It works well enough for a "recent mentions" sort of thing, and there appears to be filtering for quoting of your own posts.
AFAIK, quote chains lead to the very last post when you search for your name.

This can be annoying, but making it an option would be a good idea imo
Yeah making it an option would be a great Idea , most of the times we get a new reply on threads and go through all the posts to see weather someone replied to you or not, but in some other cases you just wanna know if someone replied to you..! so making it optional will be the best idea.

Just a normal guy tired of flipping through comments that has nothing to do with myself to search for replies.
