Went back and installed 0.96.3 in the WO and offline and it worked.
Went forward and reinstalled 0.96.3.99 in WO and offline - and now it worked as well... so couldn't reproduce the problem. Sorry.

Attempting to sign with offline signer a lockbox transaction gives the following error in a message box:
"Signer type mismatch!"
And there is nothing in the log files recorded.
