Yes, The usb thermometer is a good solution for it. Something like this 
A temp. sensor with a nodemcu system would be more work but can work standalone.

I am looking for a free software whereby it would send me sms or email if the mining room goes about 30C. I was thinking of buying an USB thermometer and plug it into a PC. I am pretty sure that someone has come across this problem before; hence, I don't want to reinvent the wheel and write my own code.
