I read that by giving some btc one can become donator. Can I give small donation to upgrade my rank to senior member?
No "Donator" is rank, which you can become after donating 10 BTC. You can also become VIP Donator by donating 50 BTC.
https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html
You can't donate to change your rank though.
50 btc to be "Donator" !!!
My godness...

Never see a "Donator" in this forum.
Sorry, but I think I'll never be a donator : 50 btc is a lot of money today (~150,000 $US).
Never see a donator? Here is one of donators, he is known as the most reputable escrow on here https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/ognasty-18321

There is no such thing "VIP donator" it's only "VIP" who have donated 50 BTC. And here is one of VIPs https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/augustocroppo-50315

Well that's great really in those times where the price of Bitcoin is not that great compared today and you can get 3BTC from a faucet or buy a 10000 BTC worth of pizza. I do see a couple of Donator and VIP ranks and there is even a list of those who have attained it but as of today it would be hard to acquire that so I really admire those who are. A rank which gained multiple fold in value as the time goes by.

I've suggested in the past that we remove signature sizes from rank completely and people can just donate to get a Senior or Hero-sized signature etc (along with some other perks)

Let me go one step further - donate to get a upsize signature (along with some other perks) for a period of time.  That would drastically cut down on annoying signatures, and would give the forum much needed cash to get the new forum complete.

I would generally support this kind of proposal. One drawback however would be that it would add some level of controversy to banning users because doing so would take away features that someone has paid for. It would also be difficult to price because of the large variance in income and wealth throughout the world. Another issue is that users will sometimes use their signature to protest certain actions and/or policies and this proposal would make that more difficult/costly.

I do think you are on the right track though. Maybe instead of outright disabling signatures for low ranking users, the size/features of low ranking signatures could be severely limited except when a donation is made.

Another solution could be to, by default only allow say 10 activity to accure every two weeks however if someone donates then 14 activity would accure every two weeks starting the activity period after the donation. Activity requirements would remain constant. (The specifics can be adjusted if desired).

I am actually a supporter of your suggestion, but how would you determine the right price for the different member ranks?

If it's relatively low in price to buy yourself a certain signature size, then people will treat it as some sort of an investment that will start being profitable after posting for a month or so to get their initial 'investment' back.

Well that is to be discussed but I think it should be reasonable but not so cheap people can still afford to have dozens or hundreds of accounts but maybe a couple at the most. I think it should be roughly based on whatever sold accounts are going for right now (though I have no idea of that). If people are still buying accounts (which they are) then this suggestion would take away money from shitposting account farmers and account hackers and that money goes directly to the forum instead (which must easily lose out tens of thousands in ad revenue to signature campaigns (which cause a massive strain and stress on mods who have to attempt to clean it all up)). I think I initially proposed something like $50 for a Senior-sized signature and $100 for Hero or something. Maybe some sort of "premium" rank would also be a good idea with higher perks such as the ability to have an image banner in your signature and be able to change your name for example (which is requested a lot). The price should also be pegged to fiat as well as to avoid what happened to the current donator rank so it would always be $50 or $100 in bitcoin no matter what.

If it's too high, people will refrain from buying themselves signature space, and thus they won't be able to advertise their own stuff (e.g. services that they offer, goods, links to help out others, statements, and the list goes on).

What I actually suggested was everyone can have some sort of basic signature like Juniors can ie small text and url then everyone can still advertise their own threads etc, however if you wanted a bigger, flashy one then you would have to pay to upgrade.

This is not a bad idea at all, it might not really solve spamming problems but at least it gives them something to think about if they'd be willing to pay that much amount to rank up. Of course, most of the reason why we are here is because of the payment we receive from joining signature campaigns so I'm sure it'll give them an idea if they would just leave it as it is or spend so much just to rank up as a higher member.

Idea sounds interesting. But I don't think that sig spammers would have problems to pay that donation. It's not hard to earn $50 or $100 from signature campaign in short term by having multiple accounts. Offcourse, they wouldn't able to pay for all their accounts, but I don't think it will completely solves problem, because I'm sure that they will have enough funds to pay for a part of their accounts.
Let's say, person have 20 accounts. Without much work it's possible to earn 0.01 btc weekly, it's $25. So, only in single week he can earn enough funds to pay donation for a half of his accounts.

A great thing to do would be to wait until they paid their fee and then either SMAS blacklist them or just outright ban them.  Believe me, those assholes will think twice about paying to rank up.  It's an evil plan, I know, but deliciously so.  I say fuck them with whatever tool is at your disposal,  because they deserve it to the 10th power.

As for the first part ~ $100 isn't really that much considering how much people can earn through signature campaigns right now. In general, it would take them 2 weeks at most to get back their initial payment, where after that everything is pure profit.

In order to really make an impact, especially in current circumstances where account farmers have piled up a decent amount of coins after years of spamming, it has to be an amount close to $500 to make it weight seriously.

It may sound a lot, which it also is, but otherwise it won't have much of an impact to what we eventually aim for. I don't see any reason for this forum not to implement this. It combats all things mentioned before, and the forum gets a decent extra bit of income.

As for the second part ~ That clears things up, and directly solves that part of my question. Smiley

There is no right answer, which makes this trivial.

If it's too high, people will refrain from buying themselves signature space, and thus they won't be able to advertise their own stuff (e.g. services that they offer, goods, links to help out others, statements, and the list goes on).
How many users are currently doing that with their signature? Maybe 0.01%? Roll Eyes Who cares. Put a nice price up and let's clear out the garbage. I support his idea.

I've suggested in the past that we remove signature sizes from rank completely and people can just donate to get a Senior or Hero-sized signature etc (along with some other perks). It would probably put a stop to account farming almost 100% and jobless shitposters literally having hundreds of accounts to abuse signature campaigns. All the hacked accounts would become largely worthless other than for scamming as well. It's the only real way I can see putting an end to this sort of industrial abuse if we don't just remove signatures completely but theymos doesn't seem to want to do that. It's getting tedious and beyond unmanageable when staff have to essentially run their campaigns for them when practically every single alt coin campaign does absolutely nothing to police their participants. With several of them popping up every month paying literally hundreds of users every time many are quickly abused by shitposting farmers because the campaigns will accept anyone who will bother to sign up and make the minimum amount of shitposts they specify. Something needs to change or this forum will just become a way for people from third world countries to make a living drowning out everything with half-assed barely intelligible crap (if it hasn't already).

There is no short cut to ranking up to a much higher rank, you have to wait every 2 weeks to add activity in your profile. I think donations are for adding your trust or something. And why are you in a hurry ranking up to a Sr. Member by the way? To earn more when enrolling signature campaigns?

This guy's posts are so shitty that he needs some sort of rank accelerator,  else he's going to get banned long before he ranks up to Sr. Member.  Did you hear that, kindly sir?  I'd tell you to step up your post quality,  but we all know you're unable to do that.

What sig promo would justify a 50 BTC investment? Smiley

Haha, must be a damn good one, point me in the right direction. Most signature campaigns pay around 0.01 bitcoin's a week & that's with a significant amount of constructive posting. It'll only take him......well a long, long time to justify a 50 bitcoin outlay to become a Donator Grin

Speaking logically, that is what we call account sales here. You pay a "small donation" to rank up your account along with the username. Not just senior rank, you can donate more and become a legendary member too.

Fun Fact: Don't do it.
