SolarCoin is a community-based solar electricity reward program. It rewards solar energy producers with blockchain digital tokens at the rate of one SolarCoin (SLR) per Megawatt-Hour (MWh) of solar energy produced. The token may be claimed by individuals with solar-powered homes or commercial solar electricity producers. The project promotes the use of clean, environmentally sustainable energy, with the eventual goal of shifting the levelized cost of energy away from fossil fuels.

Under the agreement, Solo Energy will become a registered affiliate of the SolarCoin ecosystem, which means it will provide solar photovoltaic (PV) owners that become part of its Virtual Power Plant network with the support they need to understand and adopt SolarCoin.

VPP Members will be provided with a secure digital wallet, the required claim documentation and assisted on-boarding with the SolarCoin Foundation to ensure that claimants receive their SolarCoin rewards.

Yes i do.

I think solarcoin is a great project. Just got some solar panels myself. But I think this is a very long term investment. I've seen it being shilled recently, it might cause a little pump, but not until there is more development on the coin will it go to where it needs to be. Solarcoin could easily be over 20k sats, and a higher price will incentivise more people to use it.

It looks like this coin has a lot of fractals. Do you think history will repeat itself?

Ok so I was in Bonn today at the UNFCCC, the people in the UN who run the climate talks in a room with 15 people talking about Solarcoin, putting carbon on blockchains for trading, verification on the Lykke exchange etc. and fighting climate change with blockchain technology. Not all Americans are running away from the Paris accord. Will be attending COP23 and pressing on.

Oh really? I didn't see anything about that on their site. Definitely going to have to look into it. The panels are already making me a bit of bitcoins, it's gonna be really sweet if I can get a bit more out of them just by having them.

I've got a few solar panels and didn't even know about this project. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'm going to have to look at this coin a little bit closer, but it looks like it may have a little bit of room to grow. Also, the fact that you can get free coins if you have verified your solar production is pretty neat.

The solarcoin cap is currently around $6 million, but that is just pocket change compared to the bitcoin cap of over $28 billion. Even litecoin has a cap of more than $1 billion. So a cap of $6 million is quite small. When this coin hits a cap of $60 million, then you'll be kicking yourself for not getting in the market sooner...

It looks like the cap is already high.

Yeah considering the fact we can datalog solar generation into the SLR blockchain, its value is even higher than the MWh value as well, the scope for that data (which no-one else has) to become exremely valuable to scientists, grid operators, you name it.

$20 to $30 it would be worth if it was at par with a Megawatt hour.
