Sometimes, it is a bot which randomly copies a post in the thread. If it is unlucky, it sometimes copies the first or last post. There have been some cases where the bot copies the first post of a famous thread and it easily gets caught.

I agree to this, it can be a bot. A person doing this manually, can type something new in the same time so t does not make much sense.

There are lot of spinners available ( some for even free) which can spin the text and make it completely unique as well.

The next one I have spotted, has just copied the very previous post...

I don't know what do they think that noone will spot this kind of copypasting if they copy something from the previous post....

Make winning bets on sports with Sportsbet.io!
These people are usually farming signature campaigns or trying to reach the minimum quality level for some bounty or other. Honestly I believe that these people should be given a 14 day warning as this clearly does not contribute to the forum, if they continue after this then a full ban should be dropped.

The good thing is that with the new merit system these people will never stand to rank up from the quality of these posts, as they usually don't even take the time to edit and repost a truly high quality post, though that would be more obvious.

Its easy to find out whether a post is plagiarized or not, either by searching up in google or using a plagiarism checker: https://edubirdie.com/plagiarism-checker
....
Is it possible to include this checker in the forum? I mean, like an automated solution, the forum will automatically check every new post as soon as it has been posted, and when the result is e.g. above 95% it rings the bell and reports it automatically to the mods, with links....
In the first month this would give a lot extra work for mods but later on it can reduce it... just an idea...

I've just reported a smart copypaster, who changes a few words in the copied post and posts into the same thread a bit later...
...

Interesting. I used to do a google site search on entire sentences to catch plagiarists but I recently shifted to just searching on a phrase because I was not seeing any results for posts that I was quite sure I had seen before. More than likely that's because of what you found - changing a word or two to escape plagiarism detection.

So that's bad, but it doesn't get around the reason why a spam-hunter searches on a post in the first place: it trips the spam Spidey-sense. We just need to be a little more persistent in searching for the evidence of plagiarism, is all.

Finally, remember that shitposting is disallowed, anyway, so worthy of being nuked even if plagiarism isn't involved.

I am alive but in hibernation.
@OP. I have seen more smarter  than this.

Actually this DanielRR1997  user  copied one of merited post from a local language board then he translated with Google translator and copied in English Board.
I do not think plagiarism catcher software will be able to catch this cross poster (where his changed local language to English)

I reported this copy paster  at https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.32736571

He has not login for more than the month, might be nuked now.

We can probably tweak the protection to just check for copy pasted contents above 10 words or something like that.
Incoming false positives. There really is no X% or N number of words for determining plagiarism, save 100%.

Probably someone checking every post would get buried in the number of new posts that is continuously gets posted, before he can even make google searches for each post.
People usually check the posts of individuals who suddenly have much better post quality compared to their typical posts. When you see something along the lines of, "bitcoin is goin to rise up in the 2018 yearb ecause it has already seen the public eye and will definitely get more attentions" and then suddenly the user starts posting "From an aggregate perspective, it is clear to see that the current trends lead to a double bottom" it's probably a copy-paste post.

I see. Guess vigilance from the community might be the only way we can combat plagiarism in this case. Though it will take a whole lot of effort since from you insinuation it would mean that we have to check post history to determine whether the person's new posts are suddenly getting better. Which also means we have to review pages of post of that person.

Probably it would be best to just limit the protection ideas to the not-so-"smart" copy paste bots/people that we see so often.

If the plagiarism is one where it is paraphrased through what actmyname described, then it is indeed hard to create some automatic protection that would tag these accounts.
There isn't any automatic mechanism to protect against plagiarism anyway, IIRC. Besides, if we did have that, then nearly every Economics post about "bitcoin has potential" would be flagged and thousands of accounts would be banned.
If you're manually searching, though, Google will usually get the job done because the sheer number of keywords is going to be high enough to show the correlation between the post and the source material. Even if you replace a few words here and there, you'll still find the results by posting it in the search engine.

About the google search, if this would be done, then it would take a life time to do. Probably someone checking every post would get buried in the number of new posts that is continuously gets posted, before he can even make google searches for each post. Though probably I might be missing something here, maybe there is an automated way?

They definitely deserve ban. Every activity against the rules which is difficult to detect should be published with a permanent ban.
There are others, smarter ones, changing some of the letters to Cyrillic to be undetected if googled.

Although, right now I don't see the point of people creating bots that copy paste any more contents because of the merit system. If these bot accounts are in bounty campaigns, probably we should have some sort of regulations on the campaign managers instead. Remove the root cause of why people are shit posting and copy pasting and probably we can minimize this problem.

First I do not see anything smart , they are just lucky that they did not get caught early . If they are really smart they would have done as you said post in other similar topics , but they are probably lazy to do so . The amount of farmed and bought accounts that are joining campaigns is shocking ( I believe that I saw in accusation section someone linked more than 20 accounts to one Ethereum address ) , When you are running 30 accounts + in all kind of campaigns from signature , twitter , facebook to even sometime translation ( by google ) it will be hard to even make a minimum effort with your posting

Plagiarism is plagiarism. Even if you switch around a few words and use a handy thesaurus, that doesn't mean that you haven't copied content from another person without accrediting them with the information.

Actually, this behavior is not uncommon. IIRC, a lot of cases before involved bots simply copying and pasting using some word changes (in adjectives or verbs?) before posting the reply.

There is not much we can do. Just report it whenever you see a post like this.

Does this behaviour deserve a ban?
Without a doubt. It's still plagiarism.

This is not the classic copypaste thing, but I think we need to deal with it similarly if it was a real copypaste.

I just can't understand why they are doing this, to post into the same topic, even when they can find several similar threads, but they just copy and paste into the same thread, on the same page, it's impossible not to spot this...

Does this behaviour deserve a ban?
