As bitcoins become more popular, they will become less anonymous. Governments will regulate the hell out of them.

You'll still be able to trade them (wallet to wallet) but if you're using a money exchange or process X amount to transaction a month/year then you'll need to comply.

Does anybody know another place that accepts cash deposits to get btc??

You should try bitcoin-brokers. It's a fairly new startup that links buyers and sellers of BTC. They have support for the major banks such as BoA, Chase, and WF. The transaction fee is very minimal, which is a plus. Here's a link to the thread if you want to find out more: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/buy-bitcoin-with-cash-deposits-at-most-banks-in-the-usa-with-bitcoin-brokers-237164. Another option you have is #bitcoin-otc. It's an IRC channel that serves for the discussion and trading of BTC. Even as a new user, you should be able to find someone to sell you coins for a bank deposit. There's a trust system that you can use to determine whether or not you would like to trade with someone. You should check both of these options out.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

That actually helps me alot. Thank you so much

I setup a request at bitcoin-broker. Now if I understand this correctly, I just go to the bank and say I need to do a deposit or something? I'm not 18 if that means anything.

some conspiracy theorists will tell you that bitcoin was made by the NSA, presumably to track money.  read the link I posted above.

Thanks for the info.  The wiki explains how it can be tracked / Ur identity tied to your address very plainly.  It does say that there are measures one can take to defend against it though, like mixing services, but there is work involved.

Bitinstant making you identify yourself does indeed pose a threat, because Ur now entrusting a 3rd party with your identity and a corresponding wallet address that belongs to you.

bitcoin is far less anonymous than cash.  ip addresses are not recorded in the block chain but the public key addresses are.  imagine if banks could track the serial numbers on dollar bills.... you can with bitcoin.

So your saying they could track where and to what wallet addresses a specific bit coin goes?  But is there a way for them to find out who is in control of the addresses that has it?  Cuz if not, it still seems pretty anonymous to me... Or can be, if you want it to.

I agree, its probably not as anonymous as cash but cash can't be instantly transferred to people on the other side of the globe either..

In order for Bitcoin to stay legitimate (legal) it will have to become less anonymous.

dumbest thing i have heard, the whole premise of btc is to stay anonymous. whats the point of having btc.

you must not realize each transaction is recorded in a public file and that bitcoin is kind of the opposite of anonymous.

Transactions between addresses are recorded, but there are no names associated with wallet addresses are there?  And its incredibly easy to change / create new addresses right?  I understand every transaction is public record, but I thought the afore mentioned things is what made it anonymous.  I'm pretty new to bit coin so please correct me if I'm wrong.  And if its not anonymous, why does the silk road / dark web use it?

An enormous amount of bitcoins current and potential demand hinges on its anonymity.  Take that aware and bitcoin is finished.

It really sucks BITINSTANT makes someone identify themselves now for an account almost seems illegal. Is there not a way to easily buy bitcoins with a cash deposit anymore and remain annonymous?

It is almost like the government is trying to identify who is buying BITCOINS. Not all of us are on Silk road buying drugs. This is probably why they are doing it?Huh
