I now have the private key..

Is it much longer than the recieivng address?

How do I import this quickly and easily?

Thanks,
Rob

Create an account here: https://blockchain.info/

Take all the security measures and don't forget your password, then import there your key.

Yes exactly ! This giu should really learn how to use google it would have been alot faster.
Simple search of "online wallet" suffices well.  Shocked

I don't have a file, just a code?

Is this still ok?

Easy way:
    Visit https://blockchain.info/wallet/import-wallet.
Drag the Bitcoin-Qt wallet.dat file into the dotted area.
    Follow the instructions.
    Login to the new wallet.
option1: Under the Backup heading click download.
Open multibit choose Tools -> Import Private Keys. Now import the wallet.aes.json file just downloaded.
Delete the keys from the blockchain.info wallet.
option2: Just send your coins from this online wallet  to a new address generated in multibit. Delete the blockchain wallet.

I'm confused.

Can I uninstall and re-install bitcoin core?

Don't do that until you've secured your private keys, you may lose your coins.

Follow the guide here: http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/5324/how-do-i-import-private-keys-from-bitcoin-qt-to-multibit-client

Thank you.

What is my "private key"?

Thanks,
Rob

It's what you obtain in step 4. Smiley

4. Run dumpprivkey [Receiving Bitcoin Address] for each receiving address to be migrated to MultiBit. There may be hidden private change addresses in Bitcoin-Qt which don't show up in the receive tab. Run listaddressgroupings.

You should have used partial wallet, like electrum or something similar.
Better for newbies, faster and almost instantly ready for work.
Now try to download torrented version of blockchain.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/download-the-blockchain-here-updated-regularly-1310261
Ask yourself a question is it worth the trouble. Maybe those few satoshis that you have earned are
not worth the hassle?

Or go with method that pedrog is writing about. Million times faster.

You can use a 'lite wallet', you don't need to download the entire blockchain with those.

Check this link: http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/5324/how-do-i-import-private-keys-from-bitcoin-qt-to-multibit-client

Or even easier, create a wallet at blockchain.info and import there your private key.

Hi,

I am a complete newbie to Bitcoin.

A company I did some work for has paid me in bitcoin.

Following their instructions I downloaded BitCoin Core and created an address.

They sent me the funds.. but nothing showed in my wallet.

I then realised I had to wait for it to sync.

3 Days later and still syncing.

Now it is showing no block soure available.

What do I do next?

The only thing I have is some address that the funds were sent to.. I can't access this.

Thanks,
Rob
