"The OIG also discussed the possibility of creating a “postcoin” as a USPS-specific digital currency."

Looks like they might want an alt coin of their own, too.

I'm not sure about that...the Coindesk article specifically made it sound like they were talking more about creating their own colored coins within the bitcoin space.

It does seem like the government is interested in BTC.  They have had hearings on the state and federal level now, and clearly are going after people "laundering money" with BTC.  Anyway, the post office seems like the most logical place for them to provide BTC exchanges, with locations already in every town.  I think that would be great for BTC, to have an easy local place to go buy/sell BTC.  Maybe they will use the $25mil worth from the silk road to start with...

The US Postal Service is a registered money transmittal service...there is nothing inconsistent here.

It has actually been suggested that because they are...this actually is an excellent opportunity for them to leverage what they have to expand into a new direction likely to be more profitable.

The fact that a government affiliated enterprise is actually "thinking" about bitcoin in that light is actually a very positive sign it seems to me.

Sounds like a hostile takeover to me.

I don't see the resemblance.

Haven't seen this posted here..

Basically the Postal Service had internal discussions about offering Bitcoin exchange services at USPS locations.

So the government has made it illegal to exchange Bitcoin for US Dollars without registering was a Money Service Business, and have arrested people up for not doing so properly, and now want to provide those services themselves.

Sounds like a hostile takeover to me.
