Anyhow, the official statement was after February 2015. Next year is still within that time frame.

you mean 2016 right?

this new forum stuff and discussion around is quite tricky, at least for me. I didn't add any funds, so I should just be quiet (I know:), but considering how much it costs, what kind of "company" is behind and how long it takes, it seems somehow fishy, at least for me. In other hand, I don't have so much experience with software development project and maybe this is standard behaviour + I don't know about any similar 1.5M USD software project like this one. anyway, official repo is still somehow updating/adding new portions of code (https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk), so lets all hope, that it will happen sometimes in 2016.

Also, is it even confirmed that we'll get to see the forum next year?
No. There was never a exact date and most likely never will be one. Maybe once they are certain 100% they might announce it a few days prior to release. Anyhow, the official statement was after February 2015. Next year is still within that time frame.

If it ain't broke, why fix?
SMF is broken (technically not always but still). Theymos patched up a ton of stuff and occasionally more exploits come up (e.g. recently people with 'invisible characters' in their name).

The purpose of the forum is to share news and discuss about bitcoin. The current SMF platform is fine as it is. It's nice to have a new forum with nicer and updated interface. That's just icing on the cake. We are not in a hurry to "upgrade". I actually would like to see a nice bitcoin tipping system implemented since this is a bitcoin forum, but I remember reading that theymos don't want to hold any coins on behalf of the users.
Theymos doesn't have to hold the coins.
There are already other tipping services like change tip. The new forum can be integrated with change tip and so theymos wont have to worry about holding coins.
Also, is it even confirmed that we'll get to see the forum next year?

Well the SMF forum that we are currently using right now is buggy and sometimes, disrupts the user experience. To further satisfy the forum users' needs. we should get a new and better place to flock in and discuss ideas together. Besides, where should the donation money for the forum go other than the forum itself, right?

I guess no official announcement has been made regarding the Launch date, all the dates are just tentative.

I like the current forum layout. It just feels natural and easy to use/navigate around. But a new forum would probably suit since this current software is so old fashioned.

I heard about this a year ago and they still haven't replaced it yet? Is there an official opinion of when it's going to go for the new forum software?

In last year, some news said that it will come in this year, but now it seems to be late, now I would say I will expect it in next year. Just give them time so that they could make sure everything is OK.

Maybe it's some sort of christmas gift? Who knows.

Its probably going to be dropped in our laps. we wont have any idea that its coming and we wake up one day to be on the new forum. I dont think its personally ready yet but looking at the above link it seems they are writing documentation on it now and not just activly developing it does that mean its close? maybe in the next few months?

am I right in thinking that the public as in the open source software will be brought out first and then the customised Bitcointalk forum?

I was really listening from this forum that new forum will come in early 2015, and now its half of the 2015 passed, and still no update about that.

There was nothing said about "will come". All speculations were just that: speculations. There's no real deadline and no hurry.

imho in middle of 2016 if we had serious portion of luck..maybe little bit sooner, if another hack will come again..

Even in the presence of more hacks, rushing doesn't sound wise. It will be done when it will be done, and if the current forum proves to be insecure, then it's better to just shut it down instead of replacing it with yet another insecure, unfinished product.
Shutting it down would lead to somebody else making a rushed even more insecure forum and a part of the community would go there. Most likely they would even spread out over multiple forums which would not be good for the bitcoin community.

I think that it will not come too soon. In fact, the section 'New Forum Software' (i.e. this section) is created at March 2014 (As the time of the very first post here) and it is already 1 year and 3 months from there. I think that it MAY come in the next 1 year and 3 months, i.e. September 2016.

No, the official time given is: when its doneTM1.

[1] "when its done" is probably protected by ID software, 3D Realms and/or John Carmack.

i know ETA cant really be provided, but theymos, let us know buddy!

will it come this year (2015) or how likely is that?
or rather next year?

ThX

Please refer to this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1056700.0;all

There has been no confirmed date as of now, it could be released this year, it could be the next.  For now, you'll just have to make do and stick with the SMF forum.

They said the million forum would come in early 2015 last year, but now it's almost June, 2015...

To be fair, "They" were just giving a wild guess. No one was ever given a firm deadline, people asked for a guess, and it was given. Something else to consider, Theymos and Slickage had a basic idea of what needed to be done. So many additional features have since been added beyond the basic plan, it would be ridiculous to think that the original quote would still apply.  In reality, Slickage is creating two different forums. Epochtalk and Bitcointalk. One to be the blank slate that will be the open source anyone can use software (epochtalk). And then Bitcointalk has to be built on top of that blank slate that was created in the first place.

It might not be done this year, it might be. It might not be done in 2016 for all we know. Rather than giving estimate completion dates, its far more appropriate to say when it wont be done. It wont be done this month. I'd also say it wont be done in June. At the end of June, I'll let you know if I think it will be done in July, and so on.

Who cares when its done, I'd rather it be done right than hurried.

There is no rush honestly, the forum is functioning fine as it is. I would rather have a new bug-free forum software next year than to use a rush-job platform this year.
