Loose lips sink sigs!
40% sounds impressive, but what did they start from? What's the denominator of the equation? If the went from 100 content items yo 140 content items, it's not that big of a jump in nominal terms.

Any more details to share?

"40% spike" sounds impressive, however it was advertised via email and we don't know the absolute numbers (so a rise from 5 to 7 content contributions would be a rise of 40%).

Nonetheless I think that Bitcoin fits perfectly for this purpose. So it's nice to see Taringa! embracing Bitcoin. It also makes perfect sense for Argentinians to use Bitcoin, because their currency is ruined by government.

However I doubt we will see facebook or twitter following anytime soon. Bitcoin has to multiply its user base first and improve in usability to be an attractive option for such mainstream social networks.

I never even heard of taringa before.  I guess I am getting old lol.  I doubt major sites like facebook and twitter will start accepting bitcoins any time soon, bit it would be really cool if they did.

It is a localized social network, favoured by people in Argentina. Its successful use of Bitcoin might force global companies like facebook and twitter to consider accepting it.

Ah I see.  Now that you mention it I could see one of the major social medias accepting bitcoins as a publicity gimick.  Especially second tier ones like google+ or myspace.  I think people still use myspace, don't they?

But what does everyone else think.  Would it really make a difference of facebook started taking bitcoins?  I wonder if it was effective for taringa, a local social media site, because their user base already used quite a lot of bitcoins?

It takes a few days to go from money to coin but that is because security purposes which i can assure it is the best with them. Considering the users have Xapo wallets I wonder how things will progress going forward considering Life Lock is suing Xapo.
