What is life without law,.........

There is no such thing. Common law, law of the creator applys to everyone by default.
Made up laws laws made by some people against other people are not laws, that's a nuisance.

Man is by nature a social being, so he cannot live without laws, even if there are no written laws, there are laws that exist according to social norms and customs.

Actually, that's not the case, or at least not when "society" is concerned.
Man was born as a hunter-gatherer, and as that, they were nomads and very aggressive towards "foreigners". It was the development of the plow (first) and later of industry, that created society as we know it today. Of course there were "social norms" then, but most of what was considered "normal" then would be appalling today.

Homosapien are animalistic by nature, it's how evolution works. But still social primates. In fact, it took a long time for society to get rid of the animalistic tendencies in humans. Some would argue the general increase of intelligence as caused by a diet change acted as a catalyst for this process, but whatever the reason, the idea of tribalism still exists. It's innate. Rejection and aggression towards foreigners is self preservation mechanism, anything viewed as "foreign" is a threat to someone's safety or way of life.

Yeah, to a point.
If you take "social" to the point as not to be a complete loner, then yeah, Homo Sapiens is (or was) "social".
But there are different levels to "social". When Homo Sapiens was a hunter-gatherer, food was scarce, and any extra mouth to feed was objectively a threat to the survival of the group.
Once the plow was discovered, Homo Sapiens became (with time) more and more sedentary, as their food source was much more stable, and it (obviously) didn't move. Soon enough, the group started facing a different problem: they didn't have enough hands to work the land. Then is when Homo Sapiens became truly social, and started welcoming people from other tribes/clans. It took millennia.
THAT by itself prompted a huge improvement in the DNA heredity of humans (they started having kids with people from other clans/tribes, so conditions like Down's syndrome started to be more rare), and initiated all laws and regulations (and social customs) as we know them today, and ultimately was the sole initiator of crafts, industry and science, among others. All because of a little pointy piece of bone.

For a society to be a society, there must be a law, rule, guildlines, principle that govern that entity, and it is these rules that makes the people stay United without crises.Any society that does not have rules and principles guilding them will suffer crises, war, system failure and lack of control by it citizens.

A lawless society is like a society exposed to danger, internally and externally. It is a society that lifes and properties will not be valued.A lawless society is a society where gangsterism will be practiced.

A society in which there is no law turns into a society in which violence, murder and theft prevail, and there is the law of the jungle where the strong eat the weak.

Well, at least not in my experience. Sure, different countries may (and probably will) vary on this.
I live in a country in which "law" has ceased to exist decades ago, and, while we've been overrun by criminals of all kinds, honest people are still a vast majority, and we're unwilling to let criminals take the whole country. Sure, it's difficult, and life is very far from what it is in any developed society, but to say it'd be "the law of the jungle" is a bit excessive.

Man is by nature a social being, so he cannot live without laws, even if there are no written laws, there are laws that exist according to social norms and customs. I think that even in primitive societies, when man began to live jointly with other groups, there were laws that were innately recognized to preserve the survival of the group, with the development of human civilization and the complexity of relations, man began to establish laws to regulate the relations between members of society, without these laws no one can A society of continuing to live together, of course there will always be murder, robbery and other crimes even in the most civilized societies, but the existence of laws protects good people from such people who steal or kill.
In short, it can be said that there is no life without law. A society in which there is no law turns into a society in which violence, murder and theft prevail, and there is the law of the jungle where the strong eat the weak.

The country exist without law, yeah I'm tired such country is Nigeria my country home where the richare getting richer and the poor getting poorer where killings are taking place corruptions insecurity and Bandit and could you believe that our leaders are there sitting laughing and they don't do anything about it in my country Nigeria. So now I want to tell you I want you to believe now that there is a country without law exist. In fact there are so many people in my country Nigeria who are above the law including their families, friends, relatives,  they will go scot-free if they do anything wrong.
Reason why I told you all this is that if anything happen that that require Justice and He is one of them they will make sure the case does not end they will keep adjourned the case until the entire country self will be tired of sitting and waiting for the Justice rather they will forget about it and continue with their normal activities.

I believe there was a time were there were no laws in existence, where everyone was free to do whatever they wanted to do and what they felt right for them. Because people do not think alike, and people see different things as what is right, no one was wrong...I can only imagine how it was like living in such a time, but i bet it must have been really wild, no order and life was not assured. Laws were introduced to bring order to the society, and even if they are not completely obeyed by all, it is a standard of what is right in society, and what is wrong.

What is life without law, how would the society be like without  law. Would society still exist, take a look at all lawless act committed  by individuals in the society, robberies, killings , corruption and so many bad act. Even with laws all this atrocities are being done  as if there's no law. people are not been scared to commit crime in the society.  They do not care or think of the consequences or result of the crime been committed. People enjoy lawlessness. How would this world be without laws , can it exist.

And there are laws, rules, regulations, ethics and norms, but then people then to do what's not good in their neighborhood.
The rich takes what's for the poor with looking back, nor having a double thoughts over he's/her actions.
For me there's no law, every man should be for himself/herself.

I think Society with no law seems to be terrible. Because where there is no law there is no hope

There's always hope. Sometimes it's harder to find.

To be able to connect, almost every day I have to walk about 9 blocks to the nearest Starbucks store, because there's no wi-fi where I live. Yesterday, when I was going back home, I almost got robbed. Nothing happened, as I caught the guy before he could even try, and I know how to deal with them. But the fact remains that, have it been anybody else, they would've been robbed in a heartbeat, and the situation would've probably looked hopeless.
I see people walking around like zombies every day, and it pisses me off when they're robbed. But in most cases they could've avoided it just by paying attention.

There are Law on every complex society, including other primates' societies. Law is not a human creation.

Custom is the way Law is created on non-human societies. Just think about rules on hierarchy between members.

The problem is not about Law or lack of it. The problem is about the way to enforce it.

Should we relay on a central system or should sanctions against illegitimate actions be imposed by society on a unorganized way?

We know that the old way of the victim to retaliate doesn't work since it promotes private wars.

"Law" (or some kind of law) is eventually enforced by the masses. At that, society can be thought of as self stabilizing.
Of course, if a given society lost, all of a sudden, any kind of control, there'd be chaos, but fortunately that doesn't happen: the descent into lawlessness takes years, sometimes decades.
Before, when I said Argentina is a lawless place, I was joking, but I wasn't. In the name of democracy and "human rights" we have evolved (or "devolved") into a society that protects the victimizer instead of the victim.
Then again, we didn't turn into a place where honest people became victims by default. On the contrary, honest people have just adapted and learned to defend ourselves, so now justice is not as "just", but it's much more swift, and some kind of law (some may say the "law of the jungle", which in any case is better than no law at all) prevails.

Some years ago, in one little town in Central America (it may have been Honduras, but I can't remember), a guy stole a chicken to eat, and the neighbors caught him. When the police from a nearby bigger town showed up, the neighbors had already killed him.
Now, you may say that's savagery, maybe it is. But that town hadn't seen a single crime in over 44 years. How many towns in the world can say the same?

If there should be no law there wont be peace, life will be so terrible. Anyone can do what he/she wish to do. Many will be wicked if there is no law, good people won't continue to be good because they may feel there is nothing to be good for. People who pay people for evil. I imagine how life will be if there is no law.

Well said. Society without law will be like jungle where only fittest survives and weaker is food of stronger. Thinking of lawless society reminds  me of old movies where  absence of any government creates anarchy and people would quickly form into mutual self-protection groups based on their loyalty to a powerful leader who they believe can protect them from any kind of disaster.

I believe the wickedness level now is a sign of the end of the world that the Bible foretold. It says that wickedness of man shall increase in the last days.

Every society has a set rule and obligation that guilds them.It is these rules and laws that the government uses to control and govern her people.Every society that has these rules, laws, obligations can live in peace without chaos in the society.

But any society that has no law is doomed for all sought of wicked and barbaric act from the masses.
A society that has no law will suffer the following.
Criminal acts.
Unnecessary killings
Problems and conflict all over the society.etc.

Come to live in Argentina for a while, then you can see for yourself. Grin

Initially, in a lawless society, bad people start getting ever bolder, until honest people get sick of it, and start finding their own solutions to the problem. In the middle, those that are not capable of coming up with said solutions become the big losers, and so does society as a whole. Kids, the elderly and the weak become society's victims.

Believe it or not, the rule of law does help society a lot.

Remember any system can be effective but the system of cruelty cannot be effective.
A society without law cannot be possible, because the law makes a strong bond between society and its people. just anarchists everywhere.
No law means crime would be legal, robbery would be legal, murder would be legal, no protection of rights. We would be punished or accountable against anyone. They would end up badly. Civilization would not be possible without law.

Without laws people would go out of control.
What do you think by this? Whose control? Yours?

There is no peace that you can find if a society without laws existed.
We only know one type of society nowaddays. Long time ago humans lived without law and there were no such a things as doomsday, chaos and tragedy as you typed.

The society cannot exist without laws. Without laws people would go out of control. There would be killings no matter where you go. Many bad things would happen. Everything will be in chaos and will be full of tragedy. All people will suffer from this. There is no peace that you can find if a society without laws existed.

Life is nothing without laws. People who commits bad things had no consequences or punishments given. The world will be doomed because there is no such thing that can stop us from doing the wrong things as there are no laws Or rules to operate and control society. The world will be very dangerous for us to live. So it's important to have laws for us to follow as it may serves us guidance from achieving what we called peace.

Imagine a society without laws, without rules and agreements: it would be a real chaos. To coexist in an environment, we all require rules. Without them, each person would do what they wanted, would think of themselves, without thinking about the consequences that their actions could cause to others. Nor would we have sanctions, much less rights, it would be a society where there is no justice and few people would care about the welfare of the other. Each person would assume justice and human rights, at their convenience.

I fully agree with you, it will be complete chaos on the streets again. People need rules to coexist because there will always be disputes and we need civilised ways to deal with them. Lawyers and courts are important, without them in the end life will be like in the wild west days where everybody carries a revolver.

I don't know. And what about natural instincts? Human wants to survive and if he wouldn't think about consequences, they can easily be killed by someone else. Natural instincts would lead human to live with other people in peace, because living in the group is better for surviving  then living alone.
The most posts in this topic assume that pople without laws are just animals. But we distinguished from animals before creation of laws, so laws simple cannot be the difference beetween animal and human.

The world will be ending up badly if there's no law. People will face havoc due to it. Unlike having a law, we have a guide and there's certain punishment for those bad things that shall be done.
There's law enforcement and there will be law enforcers that shall protect everyone from evil doers.

This is extremely true, but lately this generation lack all of this entirely... People face havoc and other hazardous act carried out mostly by the Politicians and the rich, despite the punishment and everything.
Most law enforcement and law enforcers have breached the laws that guide and protect people......... I'm not against the Laws but then,a lot actually going down.

A society with no law is bound to suffer wrecklessness and all soughts of fraudulent acts by the citizens of that country or by the people living in that country because there is no law.A law is a set of rules, guildlines, principles, that govern a particular country or a particular society.

And for a society to be lawless means that those principles, rules, and guildlines set by that society are not been followed or obeyed by the citizens of that country. When a society is lawless, there are so many implications that follows it,they are: Law breaking, crime, killing, theft, human trafficking, abuse of human rights, injustice etc.

A world without law and order? That's a dream of all of us when we are in anger state, isn't it Wink but, the brutal truth is, no, we can't live without a set of regulations in which everyone is equal in importance, and all those who do crimes will have to get justice, however, with rise in technology, we will soon be able to prevent the crimes before they are committed, and when that will happen, jails and prisons will be empty Cheesy

If we have no laws then people will act completely on their believe and base their decision on religion or they own mind. This means we go back to 1000 years ago, where the strongest person will win. Instead of working for something you can just go and take it. Plundering will become a big problem again. Also people will start fighting each other again because of different religions. Even today we can still see that religion is being used to turn humans against each other.

I can see politicians and oligarchs acting completely on their believe, adjusting laws to their own purpose or completely ignoring them. Politicians do not need to work, they simply take money from other people (and threat them with violence, if they do not like it). And, exactly as you typed, people still fights because of some stupid things as religion is. I see no difference beetween real present-day world and this hypotetical "if we have no laws". It's the same, laws just change how all this matter looks - to ostensibly be more "civilized". But from the inside, it is same dirt - it just looks like "people want it like that because it is the law, so it is completely ok and there is no way to disagree".

First of all, try this little experiment with your opinion. Is your claims about necessity of laws (and government which creates it) based on rational consideration? Is there any rational argument you think that without laws world will fail into chaos? If you have some real arguments, please, write it here because I didn't read any yet.

First I must say, that it is interesting, how many people believe, that society without laws (or even without central government) cannot exists.  Interesting, but not surprising. Centuries of existence of laws together with lack of imagination results to this funny situation - that we are afraid of even think to something else.

Think about this. There is nothing like human laws on the planet and nature can still exists quite well, even without humans at all. Then why human laws even came into existence? I definitelly don't think that laws are some kind of salvation from endless chaos in the meaning of an ultimate evil (as some tried to claim). My opinion is, that only purpose of laws is domination, nothing more. Do you afraid, that without law, there will be just rule of greed and violent people who don't care about others? But we already have it - and it is not in spite of law, but because of law. The fear of law is a weapon to rule.

I think a society with no law was more in war and there's no unity in people. Even there is a freedom for everyone ,they can do what ever they like in their life , and they are against for everything good unlike having a Law at least we have a ruler who can guide us, we have Rules or law that to be followed to prevent any problem that's the advantage of having a Law even not all implement at least there's a Law  that can guide us

We have reached an unprecedented technological advance in the 20th century but several of the worst social and humanitarian atrocities committed by entire societies also occurred, some led by individuals who could exercise their power for the common good but did not happen.

We develop knowledge in 100 years in an incredible way but our human nature in the most common reasoning of doing good, accepting, allowing, etc. As a society it is still a mediocrity, if it is true that there will always be individuals outside the law, but the reality is that the vast majority remain in the line of good just because the laws exist.

We have not yet developed our capacity for thought in the collective good ... so if we live in a corrupt society, full of evildoers, Who we want to restrict with the laws, but there is a powerful group that even if the law exists, they do evil as if the law did not exist, so the lawless society exists...only that there are fortunately more good people than bad.

Even with laws all this atrocities are being done  as if there's no law. people are not been scared to commit crime in the society.  They do not care or think of the consequences or result of the crime been committed. People enjoy lawlessness. How would this world be without laws , can it exist.

if humans live without law then we are not much different like animals, the law of the jungle definitely applies.

those who break the law are selfish people and only care about themselves, see how their life ends, on average they end up in prison.

If people live in a society then that society has certain rules and regulations that we have to follow and all these rules are determined by those who act as the head of the society. Again, many such crimes are happening anew in our society is not possible to deal with them by any kind of law without awareness alone. living in a society means that it is important for us to get along with each other, but because of the modern social system we have forgotten the old social bonds.

Everything operates by law. If society had no societal laws, it would still operate by natural law... the laws of physics. And the laws of physics operate by cause and effect. Who set cause and effect in place, at/from the beginning of everything?

Cool

Of course, the OP meant the laws made and implemented by human specie. Not the naturally occuring law. We cannot possible remove that in any case scenario

Even when there is law and serious punishment for defaulters in our society so many people are ready to commit the crime and then go to prison, so just imagine when there is no law, living in the forest with animals will be better than staying among humans.

I think a lawless society is nothing less than chaos, basically, we will be living somewhat like how our ancestors used to live. Humans created religion for the need of some norms in the society because they knew that we need something to control the evil desires inside any human being, therefore these people started frightening common folks with the idea of a superficial being watching all of us from heaven and punishing us for our bad sins and also gifting us for our good deeds later when humans developed weapons they created kingdoms and later countries where norms were crafted into laws so that these evils can be controlled. Idea of a lawless society is actually crazy because honestly you cannot expect 7 Billion people to have a similar kind of thinking.

A lawless society would surely be chaotic and will never have peace and order. Laws are made to maintain peace and harmony regardless of the quantity of people under it. It helps prevent abuse, inequality and taking away a certain person's life without proper diagnosis. Human beings are naturally greedy and well-known for being abusive of the power they get to have that's why laws are very important because it limits them and prevents the from overkilling someone who could be dangerous for many people. Lawlessness will only lead to higher rumors that will show sooner to the very top.

There is this scenario that rolls in my mind after reading the context of this thread:

If the laws we have now cease to exist, then chaos will exist. The number of population will be thinned and only those who are able to survive will survive. After that wave in chaos, some people will start to form groups with acknowledge set of agreements. While some will most likely subjugate other people to be their slaves (most likely).

After some time (years/decades), one party will arise and thus ruling all other people in that area. Thus will the a government will be establish.

I don't think this would work. In a very small community where everybody knows each other this could work. People would start making compromises directly with each other. And the social pressure would make police and judges obsolete. However if we include the whole world this is not realistic anymore, there is social pressure between complete strangers.

Rules, regulations, laws, and orders are the signs and beauty of a civilized society. It provides a peaceful climate where countrymen can perform daily work and activities. There is a secure atmosphere and security for everyone. There are rights of men, women children, old age people, minorities, and foreigners. In this breeze, the society and country have a good map of development.
On the other side when there is no law in society. There will be the government of powerful peoples like robbers, decoits, child-lifters, criminals, smugglers, etc. There will be no life for the weak and poor. There will be the law of forest and there will be no peace and security. This kind of society cannot survive for a long time and soon it will be ruined.

A society with no law is doomed.A lawless society is a society that do not set some foundamental rules, and guildlines for it citizens.A lawless society means that there is no government in that society.
Here are some consequences of a lawless society:
Insecurity:Human lifes and properties will be insecured.
Crises:It is the government that is regulating some ill behaviour of citizens,by providing prisons, cells, jail for law breakers, and this help put citizens in order.
Crime:The rate of crime in a society will be uncontrollable.Immagine when there is law now, and people are still violating it.Government outfits are in the society, but yet people still kill, they still steal, etc,How about when there will be no law? So we can see in the end that a lawless society is one that we cannot live in.

With no law in society, it will only make the formation of chaos in it. The community has no guidelines and instructions on how should behave, given that every human being has a social spirit so that it requires socially too. If not so, humans want to tend to play a role as arguing that they will hurt between others. Therefore, the law and provisions are made not to be violated, but the law to obey for the sake of the harmonious area between fellow human beings.

The world will be ending up badly if there's no law. People will face havoc due to it. Unlike having a law, we have a guide and there's certain punishment for those bad things that shall be done.
There's law enforcement and there will be law enforcers that shall protect everyone from evil doers.

Humans will become animals if there is no laws can control their acts, because humans are one of the most selfish creatures in this world they care much about them than others in general and they take care of their family then only the society will come into their priority lost. Humans without laws can be only possible if everyone in this world becomes financially equal so that no one is going to harm others.

Well, we don't know for certain how the modern world would change if suddenly all laws were suspended everywhere... but I would imagine that the end result would be a ruling class who establish and maintain their position through violence (or the threat of violence), who then keep everyone else more or less subjugated, not as far as them being slaves, but a careful balance so that people have at least a basic standard of living, so that they would have something to lose if they rose up in rebellion. It is if someone has nothing to lose that they become a threat. Give them some minor token, something small to lose, and they can be managed quite easily.

The Evil is the human inborn malignant tumor, does not have the radical cure the good prescription, only then the law can suppress it.

If there is no law, thieves will run amok; robbers will run amok; murderers will run amok;

If there is no law, all trades and professions of industry, commerce and agriculture will be paralyzed. In a word, all acts endangering social security will not be stopped, and the personal safety and interests of the public will not be protected.

In the long river of history, without law, human society could not be as highly developed as it is now; without law, human beings would eventually perish, and it is because of cannibalism.

The history of continuous construction and perfection of law is the history of progress of human society.
