I'll pirate big programs that charge hundreds of dollars for their applications, but indie games I'll support (Humble bundle, etc)

Any pirates here willing to send me a copy of a file from your computer? I need one called wallet.dat. Don't worry, I'll share it as soon as I'm finished with it.

Sure! just turn off any antivirus software and make sure your Java is up to date  Grin

You don't even need to "pirate" PhotoChop, since their activation system is such shit.

i have no issues pirating software, have done so ever since my first computer.

i don't regret the 14 years of photoshop experience, which i never would have had without piracy.

but anyway, despite that stance, lately i've actually found a lot more free software worth using.

used to use (pirated) winrar... now discovered 7-zip
used to use bullet-proof ftp... now discovered filezilla
used to use editplus... now mainly using netbeans
used to use nero... now i use imgburn
used to use (paid for) pgp desktop... now using truecrypt

etc, etc.

i don't think i'll be moving to the Gimp (or spending $1300 on Photoshop) any time soon though.

oh, and the reason i pirate windows has absolutely nothing to do with money, and everything to do with not wanting to jump through microsoft's hoops.

i don't believe you.
Perhaps you think you've never pirated but i think if you've been exposed to the net it's impossinle to avoid. Consider:

-accessing unlicensed software online; was that redhat server paid for
-licensing; is your chinese phone fully GPL compliant
-read the licensed-to box on the company copy of excel? Subcontractor copies too?

I'm sure there's many more

Very good tho to be able to say this, it supports the idea that IP makes sense to see that someone has managed it

I have never used or intentionally used pirated software.
How many of you can say the same thing?

Would you like a pat on the back or a prize for being a good lil boy?

EDIT: I like to try full functioning software before I buy it, not some nerfed down piss poor excuse they demo. If its not what I am looking for, I delete/uninstall and try something else
+1. IP is one of the very few goods where you're expected to buy something before using it. I'm very picky about software I buy, but when I find something that really does what I want, I buy multiple copies.

I have too.. and yet I've not cost a company a single dime in losses from it.  In fact I've given more money to software companies than I normally would have, had it not been for pirated software.
